@jasperthehairycaterpillar11683 ай бұрын
@SmittyAccess Your right. I worked for the FAA as a technician. I used to climb microwave link and lighted navigational aid towers amongst others and we got a 25% hazardous duty pay for the shift. If you were on a tower for an hour or your whole shift you got 25% for the shift. The government does not always provide the safety gear you need. We used to climb with a safety person. They would either observe or climb also depending on the need. There was an accident. I was almost killed due to a falling tool from my partner. This was a small tower of only 200ft. Got a life long injury from my climbing belt. We were suppose to have harnesses not belts. Injuries like mine is why OSHA switched to harnesses. My career of 20 years ended because of their lack of following their own regulations. It wasn’t worth it and it certainly wasn’t 20k dollars. That’s the short story.

@@Barrybullthiefpoutersbut flying in a plane or being up high in a skyscraper is very different to climbing a giant tower. Being in a plane at 13 km up you are sitting inside a vehicle where you don't feel the wind racing past you with professional pilots who you can trust to get you safely to you destination. Same for being up in a skyscraper. You don't feel the wind going past you and you are safe inside. Where as climing a tower you feel the wind, you do it yourself, which can make you tired, and if you don't do it correctly, aka with a safety harness, and you slip, you fall to your death. I’m sure he doesn’t climb the entire 1,500 steps at one time, he very likely stops a few times on the way up to rest his legs, not to mention that’s like increasing your elevation from sea level which makes the air thinner than at ground level!!! Your body requires a certain amount of oxygen to operate and as he is climbing, there’s less oxygen in the air he is breathing!!! If he falls at any point, even being tied off to that tower, he is likely to be dead before anyone could get to him to rescue him!!! No matter how much he gets paid, I bet you his legs to a bit involuntary shaking. Not because he's scared, but you're only using a fraction of your feet because the rungs on the ladders are thin. I do a lot of mountain biking and rock climbing, so my legs aren't exactly weak, but I've been up a ladder for a few hours at work and even while cleaning out my guttering and I've had my legs shake all of a sudden. He doesn't get paid $30,000 to do it, it's more like $30 per hour, but he should get paid way more than he does because not many people could do that every single day of life for a living.
