The whistle note was the same as Mariah’s in key which is CRAZY! I HEAVILY recommend u check out his other Mariah covers, especially “vision of love” and “I wanna know what love is”. However before u do those u SHOULD educate urself a bit on Mariah’s live performances for these songs too cuz a lot of the melodic choices in adlibs and riffs he does are inspired by Mariah’s live performances, he’s a HUGE Mariah fan, so he takes a lot of the little things Mariah has done in her live performances and implements them into his covers of her songs, because Mariah likes to change up some of her vocals in her live performances. So react to those after u check some Mariah live performances on those songs. He also does Whitney Houston covers btw!

5:58 It's called melisma, when an artist squeezes in notes in a vowel. To be fair, Mariah did it in her song, so he's being pretty faithful to her original melody haha. Mariah tends to use a lot of melisma, which musically she's consistent with, imo she doesn't overdue it, but I know some people don't like it as much 😂.

I get what you are saying about the whole changing of frequencies but I also feel artists do that to make themselves not sound too close to the original and retain some authenticity. I like how people change it up to make it there own so as to avoid negativity and accusations of trying to imitate a singer. When Gabriel sings, you know it's his actual voice rather than him forcefully sounding exactly like Mariah.

I personally think he's very talented. Some people don't like it when guys try to cover big female voices such as Mariah or Whitney because of the whole trying to compare, imitate issue which is a load of rubbish in my opinion because if you never do and you know that you have the capability to reach those kinds of notes than why hold it back? Why should you keep your talent to yourself just because someone else tells you to shut up. It's ridiculous.

He wasn’t on X-factor, He was on AGT. And if you don’t want want to hear riffs and runs, don’t listen to a cover of a Mariah Carey song! 😅 Or a Whitney Houston or Ariana Grande cover…the list goes on! Doing a heavy melisma-laden cover will definitely show lots of runs. If you want something more staid, stay away from the Diva covers. You might try Gabriel singing, “Talking to the Moon” by Bruno Mars, or “Set Fire to the Rain”, an Adele Cover. Gabriel has a gospel background and gospel music has lots of runs, riffs and melismas in them. You could listen to his version of “How Great Thou Art”, or “I Look to You”. Other good, less movement-oriented covers are “Savin’ All my Love”, or “Un-break My Heart”. But one of Gabriel’s strengths is his amazing fluidity and excellent pitch. And most of his fans, like me, love his runs. I personally don’t feel his runs take away from the melody or heart of the song. I love them. I think they enhance the emotional drive of a piece. Think of them like they’re taking the place of, say, a Saxophone, Flute or Piano solo in a song. Gabriel can provide his own instrumental interludes that way! If this was Gabriel’s only style of singing, that’s one thing. But he is very versatile and does interpretations to fit the kind of song he’s singing. Just like his whistles, Gabriel doesn’t just do them to shock. He only does them to highlight emotion or communication within the song. I think he’s the best out there.

As for me I’ve got two songs to be recommended from Mariah being bliss her 1999 album song (probably the most whistles you’d ever hear) or Slippin’ away from her rarities (that being a song with no whistles) both are equally as good as each other and if you’re able to hopefully you’re able to get a glimpse of both.

A questão é, quantos podem cantar como a Mariah e se sair bem nisso? Que eu conheça, apenas o Gabriel Henrique. Ele não ta exagerando em nada, se ele não fizesse assim diriam: "ah, ficou faltando isso e aquilo" . Eu entendo o que você quis dizer, mas na versão original já tem esses arranjos e se ele pode fazer, porque ele não faria? E eu diria que esses apitos estão longe dos mais altos que ele já fez.
