I read a few comments below saying this is 'basic' playing.. If you think that it's easy to play like this, you simply have not dedicated enough hours into playing this instrument to appreciate this stuff. To be able to say so much with so few notes is the epitome of a guitar player with mature phrasing. Maturity isn't something that can be rushed. I hope I'll get somewhat closer to this level of sophistication in my playing in ten years or so but in the meantime, I'll continue to enjoy listening to and learning from players like Jack, Robben Ford and many others.

You absolutely hit the nail on the head when you said “searching for unforgettable lines, one note at a time.” That encapsulates it perfectly. For some, it’s about robotically showing off while playing fast etc.. or thinking that all that “feel” is somehow linked to hours and years of practicing, but the best players; it’s their organic connection to what they’re playing, expression, it moves them and moves us at the same time, it’s what special about those players. It’s something I’ve noticed playing drums behind a lot of guitar players over the years. Less is more. Great channel man 👏

This is what I gathered from his clips: 1.) Awareness of the song He knows where he is in the song, and what’s coming up next 2.) Knows the changes/chords thru and thru He knows the chords; and not just on a surface level. He knows/feels the theory behind what he can play on top of each chord 3.) Dynamics/taste/touch With knowing the placement of the song, and knowing the chords, he can then put in the perfect lick that the song calls for at that very moment. My biggest thing I take away from this, and that I’d tell young musicians, is awareness. Most young guitar players get lost in their pedals and the lick that learned from John Mayer; but they have no idea of where they are in the song or what changes are coming up next. Knowing the song and the chords coming up next will put you on a level much higher than your peers. That’s my take at least.
