I followed this trial. He had no remorse for anyone except himself. He represented himself which made for some entertainment BUT it was sad to see him gaslight the witnesses, even the ones HE called. To see how he didn’t care about who he hurt. His mother wouldn’t even show up for him but made sure to make excuses for him. I believe his grandmother spoke on his behalf, again making excuses for Brooks, during victim impact statements. He is a vile person.

Like in this video when he siding know what ‘mutual’ means. He said he Met up with Erica through a mutual friend … that they both know. Lol a mutual friend is literally by definition someone that they both know. That’s what mutual means. They also don’t use the word ‘there’ either… they use the word ‘it’s’. The cops asked if there was a lot of people outside , and he says ‘it’s a lot of people everywhere’. I fucking hate them.

I don’t know how the families of the victims were able to hold themselves together during the trial of and then deliver the victims impact statement , but they did all while Brooks sat there and rolled his eyes. When he was on the run and the guy took him inside his house to warm up and use his phone and then gave him Food as he was leaving. The police as well as the detectives and the DA office and Judge Dorow were All the utmost professionals and they assured him that he was given a fair trial and he Was !! The reason is that the world, by and large, and America included do not give two shits about women. There is an insane backlog on rape kits; so much so that by the time (if they ever get tested) the statute of limitations for the rapes has run out, and the offender goes free. We live in a culture that values men's rights WAY MORE than women's- hence all these abusers getting out of jail so easily, and why we now no longer even have access to abortions, not to mention why men can get things like viagra from work healthcares, but women can't get birth control. It's infuriating!
@devina1100 Жыл бұрын
@@Merrcurry111 wow you packed alot into that paragraph. You sound like a feminist and that's not where my original comment was coming from. Exactly what makes you think that abortion is any better than what this guy has done or that women need access to it? And why are you blaming men for the actions of these so called men who perpetrate these crimes and atrocities? Don't you think what you said is a broad statement and generalisation in fact? I do. All that said I know there are plenty of decent good living men who don't tolerate such abuse and evil in themselves or anyone else. What is needed is more solutions. Not more division. Feminism has done a pretty good job of division between men and women. No-one needs any more of that shit idiology. Also where aren't women able to get birth control? Because to my knowledge there are 41 kinds of birth control that women can obtain quite easily. Plus the fact that if you really don't want to get pregnant you can abstain completely or require a man wear a condom. If he refuses. Simply close your legs and move on.

@@nrsjuggalo Oh, no, subject matter jurisdiction is a real thing. Brooks just didn't understand how it works. He was doing the classic sov thing of throwing out legal terms and concepts he didn't grasp, because they sound impressive. For example, the court of general jurisdiction doesn't have subject matter jurisdiction over bankruptcy or probate cases -- there are separate courts that have jurisdiction over those matters. But unless subject matter jurisdiction has been reassigned to another court by statute, the main court has it by default. You can't 'opt out' of jurisdiction that way. The key thing is that the only way to successfully challenge the district court's subject matter jurisdiction is to assert and argue that some other court does have it.

I watched about 80% of the trial, it was heart wrenching in every way. Judge Dorow and the entire prosecution team (especially the team not in court) did an amazing job of demolishing ANY chance for a successful appeal. There is no technicality he can get away with, this trial was the end of the road. If he had Robert Kardashian and Johnny Cochran and Robert Shapiro as his counsel, I think there could've been a chance that he could've gotten 6 manslaughter charges and potentially be out in 35 years with all charges running concurrently... Luckily, however, Darrell Brooks is a moron who will never see the light of day for the rest of his natural born life.

@jasa_TheRealOne Жыл бұрын
@Bryan Russell it depends on the state. I know in NV criminal cases that if you can successfully argue that you should be able to go pro se (what Brooks did), your appointed counsel becomes standby counsel. Standby basically means you still ask the questions of witnesses on the stand, but you can ask the attorney if what you're about to say is legal. During the hearing where his public defenders made the motion to withdraw, in WI under Ch 5 of the Public Defender Board (PD) 5.03 says a defendant does not have the right to have standby counsel. During this hearing, the judge, prosecution, judge, and defense said over and over and over again that if he makes that unwise decision, he can not have standby counsel, and he will be alone. He did not heed the advice of literally everyone with a law degree and found himself with the 900-odd years in prison without parole.

I think that come trial time, the stress and strain and confusion of trying to be his own lawyer when he was manifestly incompetent to do so -- plus the intense personal emotional investment -- had ramped him up. He got crazier and crazier as the legal walls closed in on him because everything was on his own shoulders. This is one of the prime reasons why you never go pro se unless the matter is truly simple and straightforward and you've really got facts and law solidly on your side -- and even then it's not the wisest course.
@MrGST360 Жыл бұрын
He was still doing recon on what the cops knew. The point in interrogation where he asks if they called his mom about her car yet is him trying to see if he could get any info from her since the cops weren’t being straight up. He even tries to steal evidence photos at the end . He really thought he was going to hustle his way out of this. But like the comment above me says , the weight of those legal walls set in extremely early and he was at a point of no return by then.

This should be a case file for why you don't represent yourself, especially in a murder trial. This dude couldn't show any remorse, if he even had any, because he had to play lawyer. Of all the trials I've seen on Court TV, I've never seen anyone sabotage their own case more than this guy. He did everything he could think of to delay the inevitable. You don't stand in front of the families of people you killed and declare that your conscience is clean. The judge did a fantastic job dealing with this killer's ignorance, she certainly deserved a bonus or something.

Wisconsin has a serious issue with their bail system. They tried this whole low bail/no bail system in order to keep low level offenders from overcrowding the jails. However, in brooks case, the first time, he recieved the 500 bond for shooting at his nephew, was because of covid. The system was backed up, blah, blah, blah. The nephew was living with brooks mom at the time and it was one reason, he was not allowed at her home, he went there anyway, on multiple occasions and the nephew finally had to ask the judge for a restraining order. The nephew had to ask, all by himself because, his grandma didnt stop brooks from coming over. The second low bond was "an oversight" by an overworked assistant. At least that's what the state's attorney General said. She apparently failed to look at his risk assessment sheet and he was granted the low bond. Because of this case and another involving a man who's been granted several bonds, all cash, all increasing in value, yet he posts them just the same, he absconds every time. Once involving a retrieval by federal Marshall's. There are now at least 10 different bills currently working their way through the Wisconsin legislature, but until something in the law changes, this will remain a problem for the state.

This is a perfect reason why criminals should not get bail. It gives them a chance to commit more crimes and do severe damage. Especially if they know they will be going to jail or prison, they have nothing to lose, so they probably figure that they might as well create as much mayhem as possible beforehand.
