@@mikehorb9485You clearly haven't seen this movie (title is: The Breadwinner. It was nominated for an Oscar) The Breadwinner is about a family living in Taliban controlled Afghanistan in the 90s. The father here isn't an extremist. The war he's referring to was the Soviet-Afghan war. He was not a member of the Taliban, and when he says the war "we fought" he's using the word "we" loosely - as in the entirety of the afghan people fighting to protect their independence from Soviet Invasion. Unfortunately that war left the democratic government of the time weak, which allowed the Taliban to take power. He didn't lose his leg in some holy war, he lost it when his home was destroyed in the bombings of Kabul during the war. The father laments the loss of the days of the republic when women weren't treated so harshly. He lies in this scene when he claims his daughter is promised to someone (he's just trying to get the Taliban guy to back off). And he later gets arrested for teaching women how to read. Seriously you saw a super short clip of this movie and made all kinds of racist assumptions about one of the most good hearted characters in the film

@@rory8182ikr... Tbh though Jesus said that and in Islam they only see Jesus as a prophet, not God. In Islam they actually encourage girls to cover because she shouldn't be attracting attention. Of course it is implied that men should also be able to control themselves but they don't really focus on that. Hence why they come up every so often with another body part that women should cover while men's appearance remain the same. I respect Islam but I agree more with Christianity since it encourages people to take responsibility for their actions, including men who feel "tempted" by women. The Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan in 1979 for multiple reasons. One of the main motivations was to prop up a Soviet-friendly communist regime that faced opposition from various Afghan factions. The Soviet Union wanted to maintain influence in Afghanistan and prevent an ideological threat from spreading to neighboring countries. The rise of the Taliban in the mid-1990s can be attributed to various factors. One reason was the power vacuum created after the Soviet withdrawal, which led to a prolonged state of civil war and instability in Afghanistan. Amidst this chaos, the Taliban, composed mainly of Pashtun fighters and influenced by a strict interpretation of Sunni Islam, emerged as a force that promised stability, security, and the imposition of their own brand of Islamic law. Some Afghan individuals, disillusioned by the ongoing factional conflicts and lawlessness, found appeal in the Taliban's message and joined their ranks. The United States had multiple interests in Afghanistan. During the Soviet-Afghan War, the U.S. viewed the conflict through the lens of the Cold War and saw an opportunity to challenge Soviet expansionism. The U.S. provided financial and military support to the mujahideen fighters, including Afghan factions that later evolved into the Taliban. After the Soviet withdrawal, U.S. interests diversified. One of the key concerns was to prevent Afghanistan from becoming a safe haven for terrorism that could threaten American national security. Additionally, the U.S. sought to promote stability in the region, combat drug trafficking from Afghanistan, and protect its geopolitical interests in South and Central Asia. It is important to note that the motivations and interests of the U.S., the Soviet Union, and the Afghan people are multifaceted and complex, and this summary provides a broad overview of the main factors involved.

Fun fact: in the religion of Islam, when teaching modesty one of the first rules given is to the men and how they should not look at women that are not their family (or don’t look at people they can marry), so this father is right when he says that boy should stop looking before his daughter should “cover up more” (women dressing modestly is a rule that comes after men having to avert their gaze)

The Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan in 1979 for several reasons. One main motivation was to prop up a Soviet-friendly communist government that was facing significant opposition from various Afghan factions. The communist People's Democratic Party of Afghanistan (PDPA) had taken power in a coup in 1978, which led to internal conflicts and resistance from anti-communist groups. The Soviet Union saw the invasion as a way to support the PDPA government, maintain control over Afghanistan, and protect its strategic interests in the region. They were concerned about the spread of Islamic fundamentalism and wanted to prevent an anti-communist regime from taking power on their southern border. Additionally, the Soviet Union viewed the situation in Afghanistan through the lens of the Cold War. They saw the resistance against the PDPA regime as a potential threat to the socialist movement and feared the influence of the West, particularly the United States, in supporting the Afghan resistance. The Soviet Union believed that by intervening militarily, they could control the situation and prevent Afghanistan from becoming a stronghold for Western influence or a launching pad for anti-communist movements in Central Asia. However, the Soviet invasion faced fierce opposition from various Afghan mujahideen groups, who, with the support of international actors like the United States, engaged in a protracted guerrilla war against Soviet forces. The conflict lasted nearly a decade and resulted in significant casualties and devastation in Afghanistan. The Soviet Union eventually withdrew its forces in 1989, having failed to achieve its objectives and leaving behind a country embroiled in civil war and instability.
