Something I love about Mario RPG is that each no member feels useless, as they all have their own specific uses, with Mario being the all-around member, Mallow being the mage, Geno being the glass cannon, Bowser being the tank, and Peach being the healer, so each member has their specific times when they are the best for the situation. Except Peach, who is always useful

Except, unfortunately, Bowser becomes useless as a tank when you get certain items that can turn any character into one.

@@Kirbicle Even not taking the Lazy Shell armor into account, Bowser's role as a tank/physical attacker is lessened by the fact that everyone's stats are pretty homogenized (with a few exceptions) when equipped with their best weapon/armor and having chosen optimal level up bonuses, especially since Bowser's gear provides substantially less than all the others'. Bowser's HP may be the highest, but other characters are close to or exceed his other stats, defenses included. Any character can tank a whole round of attacks from postgame Culex and all 4 Crystals and immediately be healed up to full with Group Hug or an item, and fight back with stronger attacks. Bowser's only real niche is inflicting Fear and Poison, but that's simply outclassed by Mario and Geno's raw damage output, Geno and Peach's support, and Mario and Mallow's ability to target elemental weaknesses. Bowser is great for style points, though.

A *SMALL* detail I miss is when using Magic Powers Mario would summon like an Spade Ace symbol and Mallow would summon a Clover I think Geno was the Star Bowser the Diamond and Peach the Heart ! This Remake has been everything to me ! I hope there is a hard mode *Don't answer that* and I also can't wait for the end game boss rematches !!!

HOW HYPE WOULD THAT BE. Like when the new smash is revealed to be coming (none of the characters, just that it’s coming) this game gets an update where in the post game you can do a really hard boss with only geno and no other party members (like sephiroth like you mentioned) and once you beat it the boss goes “you beat me? I see why they said you’re such a great fighter! Well, I guess you deserve this” (You got the Smash Invitation!)

He’s also not *trying* too hard to be cool, that’s what made him stand out to me originally I think. I appreciate a character who can trip over himself, fall asleep on accident, and get mad when people consistently mispronounce the Star Road, and is still cool and stoic in the eyes of the audience. He’s just so charming! Edit: I fear I have gravely misworded this analysis. By “he’s not trying too hard to be cool” I meant more that the writers weren’t trying too hard to make him cool. Geno himself tries very hard to act cool lmao

can we talk about how mario is a psychopath in this game. he wants to beat up children for them not making him look like a perfect hero in their games, his first thought when seeing a villain is to beat them to death and he would just completely ignore his friends when their are in danger and or hurt. i'm just amazed that mario did instantly want to rip geno into pieces fir the insolence of saying the mario doll looked weaker than another

Bowyer and the forest maze has been one of my favourite areas in the game so far. That boss was a good way of introducing the team attacks. Geno is pretty cool, don’t get the massive amounts of hype for him tho maybe when I play more of the game I will.

The name "Mack" was not a mistranslation. The original japanese name was "Kenzōru", which is just a mix of a word for Sword/Blade and... another word for sword. Or possibly "soul". So a literal translation would've been something like... Bladesword... or Bladesoul... or Swordsoul or whatever. Either way, it wouldn't have made for a good english name, so it was good that Woolsey came up with something original. So the retranslation didn't "fix" a mistake, it simply removed a reference.

About Geno not being nuanced… I’ve always kinda held that he is. He’s able to have that whole cool-and-collected vibe while still feeling tangible. He’s a little dorky sometimes! He trips over himself, he’s got a compulsion to correct people when they get things wrong, he’s a little petty, and as of the remake he dances awkward. And yet it still doesn’t feel forced that he’s stoic and cool. Yeah, he’s not morally gray, and he has no arc, but those things don’t necessarily make a good character. The writers, both of the original and the remake, managed to handle Geno very well while juggling different aspects of his personality that could very well compete, but they managed to make him seem very homogeneous and natural.
