I mean I didn’t mind if they went for the unknown battles of WW2, it expands ur knowledge of ww2 even more but perhaps the new content they dropped should’ve all been popular/major Ww2 battles as everyone requested and liked for, especially at that time after what they did with the pacific, I was eager what maps they would’ve released for the eastern front, major battles like battle of stalingrad, battle of Leningrad, battle of Kursk, battle of Berlin and so on, they could’ve added more maps and battles which was more unique and unknown in the eastern front. They could’ve even expanded the pacific theatre and had the Soviet Union invading Manchuria and Kuril Islands as part of the unknown battles.
@scotttill38472 ай бұрын
In the gaming industry, the FPS genre in particular, these things happen in waves. In the early 00's, COD came out after Medal of Honor, BF1942, and a bunch of other WW2 themed shooters, especially in the wake of Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers. Then things moved to modern era, then the future, then back to the past. Things will swing back to the the historical side eventually. I'd like to see another BF-Vietnam like they did for BFBC2. If DICE returns to WW2, they need to go back to the famous battles, the big set pieces like Normandy, El Alemein, Kursk, Midway, Wake Island, Iwo Jima, Stalingrad...especially since they avoided them in BF1 and BF5.
@sergeantbigmac2 ай бұрын
And the swings often coincide with real world events, after the invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan modern shooters dominated for many years after and as things fizzled over there into bureaucracy (even before the pull out) so did the interest in modern shooters. That wasnt a coincidence. If the Middle East frying pan really heats up again we will get another modern shooter wave. Personally I think its in super bad taste but its what sells... DICE needs to tap into why BF1 did so well, not only was it a really well made game that launched mostly complete with an at the time unique setting. They should tackle another unique setting and stop chasing trends. I still think a "Cold War gone hot" game would be cool. Set it in the Korean War and then move the game through the small conflicts that led to the Vietnam war and the mess in Africa. Build a campaign around that and then youd have tons of cool maps and a huge variety of weapon options.

You just need 2 things for a good WW2 experience: 1. Authenticity with little to no compromise 2. Fun, not too realistic gameplay and gunplay that doesn't break autheticity too much. Oldschool boomer is happy cuz of autheticity, and zoomers are happy cuz they got well refined gunplay and gameplay. It wont please everyone ,but most gamers.
@ChampyOnPC2 ай бұрын
Maybe even a 3. thing: Purpose, a WW2 game needs a purpose for fighting, something like planetside 2 did, a persistant war. Modern games can jam in plenty of technology, attachments, skins... a WW2 era shooter dont have as many of these things you can put in for people to chase. Thats why you need to give them a goal, like winning a grand scale WAR.

Probably unpopular, but it gave the gunfights a little bit of unpredictability. You never knew if the enemy is full health and you needed to keep an eye on your own health. First off: Nice. But, in 10 years, if you are still a PS gamer, you will most likely be playing on a PS6 or PS6 Pro. Going by the current rumors, the PS6 will be released in 2028. Adding the same generation duration, the PS7 would be released in 2036, so in 12 years. The PS8 would then be released in 2044, so in 20 years. However, since generational improvements are slowing down noticeably due to manufacturing approaching a hard physical limit, it will likely be more like 15 years until the PS7 and 27-30 years until the PS8. Unless of course there will be some new kind of technology that isn't hindered by physics in the same way as conventional semiconductors. And all that provided nothing catastrophic happens in the meantime that sets back technical development by a couple hundred years.

I remember one game soon after the Tom Cruise guy dropped, half of my team was Tom Cruise and half the other team was the Japanese girl, to make it even more silly they were the German team. But the other cosmetics, I didn't mind. The ones you could unlock, some could buy. They weren't authentic but most not over the top ridiculous. You could mix and match items and get a somewhat unique appearance. Much better than the "unique" heroes that 15 other people on the same team are using.

WW2 and its unique settings will forever have a place and be a viable option with the FPS genre..IMO it really comes down to 2 main factors 1 being the over saturation I.E how many if any WW2 titles are out at said time in the FPS market. 2 IMO and as a gamer its always refreshing and a welcome setting to revisit after having a slew of modern/futuristic shooters for years. i.E. the hype and effect that BF1 had was amazing and was so welcomed by me and my crew. And DICE knocked it out the park needless to say. Then again, I am a nostalgic one... :) Thanks as always Jack!

OK so if anyone remembers the hype building up before the BF5 reveal, the general consensus online was that WWII games had run their course and there was little chance DICE would do it again anytime soon, instead they were going to pick another unique setting after the runaway success of BF1s unique WWI setting. At one point there was a strong rumor they were gonna do a "Cold War gone hot" type thing starting with the Korean War then doing separate small wars like Malaysia then leading into Vietnam ...And then they ended up doing WWII anyway lol, cartoony elements notwithstanding. It was the greatest conflict in human history and holds the interest and attention of many around the world, and there are still some people alive who witnessed it so its within living memory. The question really should be when is the next one coming?

I dont think we'll see another WWII game from the AAA titlemakers till the technology changes drastically to allow more diverse immersion in the gameplay and environment.

Gameplay/gunplay in this game is PEAK! I hated everything in BFV but this game keep me playing more than any other almost only because this contagious gunplay and hitmarker..always wanted just one more kill..just one more..and more...

This game is awesome; look how immersive it is compared to newer games! The smoke, the music, the explosions!

I think Jack has one of the most genuine and successful youtube channel. Dude gets to do what he wants and a half million in a day glady watch a full 30ish min video. Old channel that hasn't turned into a sponsored nightmare or drama fest like most have. Jack does the same thing, like just play the game with interesting and great commentary. Prize winning formula !

I loved this game... It was so good and gave me so great moments... I would love to see a new Battlefield WW2 as well, with all those great battles as you said..

I always loved this game and I’ve played pretty much all of the bf’s. Long time gamer. I thought it was great and under appreciated. Great graphics, gameplay, the attrition system, squad points and talk about cinematic! I learned more about WW2 playing this than I ever learned in high school. Total appreciation for vehicles/weapons/gadgets. By the time they finished this game, it was one of the greats.

I still play battlefield 5 sometimes, for the pure nostalgia, is a great game but it feels incomplete

I'm not concerned on how WW2 shooters will look in the future. As computing power increases and AI get's smarter we will see things go from strength to strength. If there was the will for it then we could see campaigns that are continuous operations from start to end. Imagine we have all of Operation Overlord, all of Market Garden, all of the island hopping, the entire Burma campaign and the "forgotten army". AI could make it so all this exists and it's not too much workload for the devs, then the increase in computing could have these bigger and more detailed than ever. The concern I have is how we look at WW2 is changing, the further we move away from it. I worry that because things are already too taboo for devs to include that in 10 years everything to do with WW2 will be taboo so nobody will touch it. I worry that the conflict will be rewritten to suit modern agendas and modern audiences and rather than us experience the battles how they were we are too busy arguing over the who, how and why. It's a damn shame because I want nothing more than to play through the Burma campaign and have that story told because it's one of the allies' best. 1.9 million Indian volunteers, British, Auzzies, New Zealanders including Maori, Americans, Chinese, everyone came together to push the IJA off the mainland.

A bit random maybe. But I really liked how you could config your controller on the ps4 alot in this game. I remember using "swipe up" on the touch screen for vehicle to move to driver seat immediately from whatever position I was in. Swipe down to remove the HUD etc. Love that stuff.

There is a vocal crowd that wanted a bf ww2 game. The actual majority of the community. Many who were new because of bf1 were ready for modern combat after a few years of ww1

Man idk if it’s just me, but rather than reading about ww2 as a 23 year old dude who was born in the 2000’s, I would love to be able to LEARN about ww2 by playing battlefield. Like imagine they had all the right characters and the way everything actually happened.. it would do TONS in helping newer generations genuinely get a picture of what it was like in those times, cuz Ik for me, I can hardly imagine it. I gotta see it to appreciate it.

It's a cycle, modern fps are trending now, but people will eventually want something different after a while and we will get back to world war games.

I prefer a modern day shooter over past wars that actually happened. I prefer a little fictional when it comes to shooter games.

There were some great ideas in BF V - giving support/Engie players something to do - build fortifications, would be really cool to have that expanded into something more robust.

There will always be an appetite for WWI & WWII era games due to the rawness of the battles and historical nature. Plus, I personally think it's important to revisit the history to educate future generations - too many people today don't appreciate how destructive the world wars were or the atrocities carried out.

As a PS5 player, I can confirm it is way easier finding a full server on BF5. If it's not peak times, I find it nearly impossible to get into a game on 2042.
@katieblackmore20042 ай бұрын
They could do so much with the WW2 era, and i just think the atmosphere is so good in WW2 games, the weapon systems, buildings, architecture, setting, especially the cold winter maps. They should elaborate more on the battle at Monte Cassino that was a bloody, brutal Winter exchange, or the Winter battle at Bastogne.... They have touched on it in video games, but never made actual large scale maps where as an online shooter you would have too build troop points that take time and resources, or dig fox holes while fighting too give small cover from enemy artillery strikes. They could do missions and maps from the epic movie a Bridge Too Far, where you are in Holland and have to capture a certain amount of bridges, while the enemy try to destroy them. If they could have a WW2 game that looked as good as BF1, played like the final late build of BFV, but with new in depth locations and maps, i would be so in too it. Or even a shooter that jumps in history? No set time period. One moment you have troops, weapons and maps of WW2, then a map with troops weapons and locations of Vietnam, then the Falklands, then Gulf War etc.... just made a World Of War History shooter. But instead we get games where you have bionic arms and legs, or BF games where you can grapple from rooftop too rooftop like Mr bloody Sandman, or CoD games where you fire ray guns and run around as a guy with a massive chickens head or a rabbit. Come On!!! We are in 2024, with PC's and consoles at their so called peak.... Yet the best games i played were years ago! SOCOM online Men Of Valor CoD 2, original MW & MW2, MW3, BO, BO2 BF3, BF4, BF1, BFV...... When they were (as real as a video game could be) on inferior hardware, but the games, settings, maps were deep, atmospheric, challenging and GREAT.
