This is some deep analysis of why you can't do anything in any art form or discipline until you can master the basics, and the basics can always get better. These are words to live by, and not just in boxing. Thanks for taking so much time to unpack this.

I absolutely love this channel. So many people just fall for the glits and the glam (me included) of boxing. I used to love pad work and the heavybag. I hated shadow boxing because you don't get instant feedback of a loud sound or thump. Now that i shadow box daily since your video (something about you only need 2 things for improving) i'm like 2x more sharp and smooth with my movement.

Hate to be that guy rn, but the heavybag or the pads are not the ones telling you to do all those fancy stuff you yourself admitted getting caught up by. If shadowboxing is the one keeping you focused on cause of basic and barebones it is, that's awesome. But let's not get across the message heavybag or pads are worse cause that's most definetely not the case.😅

Angel Manfredy is an exemplar of the power of the 1,2. He won a title fight at 135lbs in 1998 against Arturo Gatti with practically just that.

Hey Coach, I'm a fighter with short reach for my weight class. I worry that, with the first technique of throwing the 1,2 (where both feet come up together with the 1) that if I threw a 1,2 in this way while stepping into range, if I were to get caught with a counter while both feet were moving and off the ground, I could get knocked off balance and potentially even fall down, even from a relatively weak punch, just because I got caught in a moment where neither of my feet were connected to the floor beneath me. Am I right to worry about this or am I misunderstanding something with the technique?

@rico149 күн бұрын
Realistically it’s better to know more combos, but his whole point is that most people need to narrow their focus on what to train. Basics win fight, but another thing to consider is the 1 2 can also be jab to the head, cross to the body or vice versa. Then mixing with your jab, and fainting as well. All those things will help you fighting as a shorter guy.
@jamiesucks79949 күн бұрын
