I don't like all windows, but I like Nendo ones and I consider them a necessity and, more importantly, an identity. There is a reason the boxes are the way they are. It has been iterated for many generations to arrive where they are. Surely there are bigger targets for plastic reduction and better ways to do it? Many companies still don't seem to realize, collection is a luxury hobby. At some point, it will reach a breaking point and your audience will move in to something else. Just my 2 cents. I think some concerns are valid! For me, it’s mostly the stability of each of the parts and potential paint transfers. Having pieces floating around looks silly (that pizza box lol). But I certainly don’t mind less plastic. Sure, some may misconstrue GSC’s intention to only be about cost efficiency but I think being environmentally conscious is also a good step. The thing I think people are being super dramatic about is saying that they’re never gonna order nendos again bc of this packaging. Some may follow through with it, but I can prob bet that if/when GSC announces people’s favorite character(s) as a nendo, regardless of the packaging, most will order anyways 😅 if anything, it really stresses the importance of documenting what you unbox in case you want to make a claim on any platform (directly with GSC or on the secondhand market)

I'm really not a fan. GSC tried to play it off as a change to cut down on platics and environmental waste but there are much better ways to incorporate less plastics than what they've gone with, it's entirely motivated by their bottom line when you pull the curtain back. Clearly they thought the individual moulding of the plastic blister for each Nendo cost too much/took too much time but I feel like this is swinging too far into the other direction to keep things safe and enjoyable for collectors; fakes/Bootlegs will be much harder to avoid and damages in transit and storage will be much more commonplace. I did see that they are planning to switch over to the new packaging for any Nendos after the Taiga 2.0 releases which is listed as November this year. I have the Stark pre-ordered, releasing in the same month so I'm hoping (& praying) he squeezes in before the change is implemented.

To prevent paint transfer of parts floating in the box, like prize figures, they may still put them in plastic 'bags'. So its not 100% sustainable also. Mainly sad that the premium look of nendo boxes are downgraded when the price is not likely to change. I too have a shelf to display the nendo boxes and im thinking i now need to find older nendos to fill the gaps. lolol

@darrenthong75072 ай бұрын
Removing plastic window kinda give you prize figure feel. Plus not having blister (inner plastic ) to keep parts is bad. The reason why prize fogure can do it because whole figure was chuck like one piece inside box. For nendo, figma and scale figure is not ideal because they are part swapping. Easily one small get missing when packaging in factory as you don't have full view to check. This will create issue for secondary new items as you don't know inside is full item or not. Lastly they say to cut cost but will price of good will reduce cheaper or remain same price?
@DTTCReviews2 ай бұрын
@darrenthong7507 I highly doubt they will pass on the saving to the end-user... So ultimately it's to reduce their cost and increase retained profits... ☹️

Reducing costs from manufacture side means jsut that. Never have I seen product gobdown in orice because of slight cost adjusting. Keep in mind even if they would reduce the price. Stick market and capitalism of private busines requires you to make more profit each year. And with inflation thats a massive task. Reducing the price would be shooting themselves in the foot. Gosh honestly I find this pretty upsetting, especially as someone who owns around 200 nendoroids and adores the figure line. 😣 I was already confused and nervous when I received the rerelease of the Shinji Nendoroid earlier this week because instead of being wrapped in the soft plastic they usually use they used harder/cheap clear plastic that seems like it can cause paint transfer. It's definitely hard enough to scratch the figures with its corners. I would have thought it was a bootleg if I hadn't ordered directly from GSC! And we just know that the cut costs are NOT going to mean a price reduction for buyers, it's just a profit increase for the manufacturer. The prices have actually gone up despite the number of accessories they come with going down. I don't think I'm going to stop collecting figures entirely, but with all the shipping price increases, changing pre-order policies (and the fact that GSCUS STILL doesnt let us combine preorders), and the increase in defects I've seen in a lot of scale figures I've received lately I've already been dialing my orders way down. I'll never buy bootlegs but it is interesting to think about how GSC making a change like this could lead to an increase in bootleg sales, really feels like they're not thinking this through and thinking about why nendoroids are so popular. 🫠

Hm seems maybe a first draft? Because they don't show how the outer box will be designed or how the actual Nendoroid is stored inside the box. I like it if they reduce plastic but then they need to make the paper one as firm and protective as the plastic one. Can you tell a fake and an original apart through that sometimes unclear plastic window? Even see flaws with all the plastic sheets wrapped around the Nendoroids? I hardly could tell if there are flaws until I unboxed the Nendo. There are a lot of people that trash the boxed because they have space problems. I always keep them if I want to resell them (you get a better price with that too)

I wouldn't have a problem with it if it was WELL DESIGNED. The main issue is possibility of rubbing but if you're going to wrap it in plastic anyways, why not use the clamshell instead? And the window ensures you know what you're getting, I can understand without a clamshell it may cause integrity issues, but I think they shouldn't have changed either. Not to mention the packaging inside looks generic, so if you take that accessories box and put it near your nendo along with others, good luck telling them apart without writing on it. I get the using less plastic, but also we all keep those boxes and use them for storage/moving.

Packaging makes a huge difference. GI Joe Classified and Transformers had quite an uproar when they moved to plastic free packaging a few years back. It was a full failure. On some of them the box was open in the front, allowing people to tamper with figures or allow them to be damaged by the elements. On others they were sealed, meaning collectors had no idea what they were purchasing and no way of inspecting paint apps, or missing pieces ahead of time. They have since remedied nearly all packaging but it was a dark time for us silly collectors

Now I like figures and I want to display them so I think the window box is brilliant idea. Japan can be incredibly innovative, Figmas/Nendos were the first line (that I know of) that had the ability to be part swapped en mass, across the range. Japan can also be decades behind the times,sometimes. Hasbro have already started to can the windowless packaging idea in the west because of the QC issues slipping through and the theft/return of the box sans goods issues (BIG issue when buying from Amazon). I understand smaller packaging. I understand windowless where the figure may be deemed "Adult", a number of the Figma styles come this way because of fabric colour transfer to the plastic, so the figure is shipped 'nude'. But this sounds like a company caving to the social media warriors. It won't go well.

why cant we be happy for the positive environmental changes this could bring, plastic is so horrible in landfills they can take centuries to decompose. I know GoodSmile is mostly doing this to save costs but this could be a good step forward in lowering plastic waste in the hobby of figure collecting, which is more important than the act of collecting figures. this hobby already brings a lot of plastic into the world for unnecessary reasons, I collect so don't come for me for saying this cause I know its true, so why not reduce where we can. and if you say that figure collecting isn't that big of an industry to be worried about instead of say fishing line pollution, i would say that the change needs to start somewhere and it sure as hell isn't gonna start in the biggest polluters. we have to make a change on lower levels and then it will trickle up with enough pressure.

I think that for the most part your thinking is correct because that is how we should all think about our waste in general. However, while it is better to cut plastic for the manufacturing process, other figure collectors and distributers should not have to suffer for the far worse contributor to plastic waste that is big companies. Figure collectors should be able to preserve their memorabilia without having to sacrifice the look of it just because we need to "start small". Again, I'm not saying your thought process is wrong, but that it is mostly misdirected towards the wrong people. It is also impossible to start small and work our way up when big companies dont profit anything from that. They never will change no matter the pressure, so to basically hold lesser companies and, in this case, collectors accountable is ridiculous...

People have been getting more frustrated for years for how they've been going down in quality and value while being priced higher, and removing one of the most popular (and practical) ways to display them feels like such a dumb move. If they came up with some sort of alternate "budget" line, MAYBE they could spin this differently? But as is you're just going to make people who are on the fence about nendoroids choose against them bc the easiest way to display them is gone. Plus losses sales and goodwill over the ease of getting bootlegs.

Not sure what to think about this change yet. I will need to see final product, I assume this is just the prototype. Hope someone will make a video comparison with the old box. I am mainly concern about the lack of plastic blister for the small parts. So many nendos comes with small intricate and delicate parts the potential for paint transfer and breakage during shipment, just yikes. How this gonna work for Miku with her giant pigtails or other more bigger nendos? I have their Ninomae Ina'nis nendoroid the deluxe with her tentacles and can't fantom how she would survive her way to me with this new designed box. Oh, and for sure this is mainly about cutting cost on their end. Pretty sure we will not see it reflected in the final product price.

This has been the result of eco terrorists pressuring corporations to use less plastic in boxes. It's why Hasbro had closed boxes on the Marvel Legends that one year, but after it hurt sales so badly, they went back to plastic windows. On the bottom of those boxes there was writing saying this packaging contains no plastic. So it's not really the toy companies themselves that want this. Thing is the reason plastic is forever is oil is forever, because it's just as bad if you burn it. These idiots are getting laws about banning plastic straws, but they buy a new smartphone every year. Which is not only plastic, but poisonous lithium batteries. Buy your toys. I mean I dont care about boxes personally BUT I think this new design has problems. I get the plastic consumption needs to go. Also everything from japan has 4 layers of plastic so maybe we could get rid of 1 or 2 without getting rid of when it's used well. A figure needs to be properly packed so it doesn't get damaged. So they can just be loose in the box. What else are they going to put in those boxes to make the figure safe? if it's just gonna be plastic might as well keep the packaging the same. The nendo dolls are already packed without a viewing window and it's always bothered me cuz they are more expensive then the regular nendos in most cases. I also think it is a problem when things can easily be replicated and bootlagged. Are they going to make it clear enough for everyone to be able to tell on both the figure and the box?

With how high nendoroid prices are you can’t always afford to pay for preorders sometimes you have to wait but now they are essentially saying if you don’t buy now good luck getting the real thing later. Never mind aftermarket. I also seriously doubt they are actually going to make nendoroids cheaper from this new change, which makes what we are getting even more of a rip off and isn’t right. It’s going to take a lot of people out of the hobby if it hasn’t already. The aftermarket quality will probably be down from the scratches and paint transfer from the new packaging so even on legit sites it’s not worth it. Buying from MFC and marketplace will change bc how can you tell it is the right character you’re getting. What’s stopping someone from sending a nendoroid they’ve had no luck selling and just putting it in keeping the desired nendoroid for themselves. I really hope they back peddle on it.

If they are smart, they'll probably have some inserts customized for each figure and each piece to hold them in place in each box. Or at the very least, if they aren't stupid. There might need to be a bit more than those cardboard inserts though. Then there is the concern for scratching from the cardboard. They might use a plastic bag for that, which will alleviate the worst of it, but... I think there should still be concerns for that even afterward. Otherwise it might end up being some type of foam padding. Either way, it is still terrible for secondhand buyers -- who even remembers or bothers to pack things exactly the same as the original packaging...? I know I tend to do that for stuff I have, but everyone else I see tends to not bother since 'if it fits, it fits' =_=;; the plastic version makes it a lot simpler since you know roughly where everything goes, but paper ones tend to be a bit more ambiguous
