I actually just finished working on my friends 09 Mini Cooper. Fault valve cover seals. Things running but turbo smoking a bit after moderate test drive. Sigh

@@mugglepower that could easily be a bad PCV ie replacement valve cover or if possible a replacement PCV diaphragm or just like the video it could be the turbo's oil seals either way, if its the valve stem seals you don't need to rebuild the cylinder head.. unlike what's said in the footage

There is a way for the valve stem seals to be changed without removing the head. I totally disagree with Mini haters, they are the most durable and fun car to drive. I feel sorry for people saying they are junk well maybe you should maintain your car properly and nothing will happen. No one is forcing you to drive one you can go and get your boring Corolla.... I own many of them never had major issues and love them!

Mini did quite improved over the years Few mechanical changes F series tended to be more less problematic than R series I did owned one F60 Maintenance I could do at home repair cost effective cheaply Parts cheap but labor expensive

Earnest is correct in his diagnosis. It is intermittent and that is difficult to find. However if it is doing it when hot, then a leak down test would CONFIRM valve seals issue. The head would have to be rebuilt. Also on turbos check the lines for clogging.

a leak down test or even a compression test doesn't effect or show up any issues/faults with valve stem seals, they are outside the combustion chambers anyway if a bad cylinder head gasket was present you'd 1st loose coolant & 2nd the sniff test should identify this, along with possible findings of coolant in the oil & vice versa. if we're talking doing a leak down with the cylinder head ie possible bent valves well surely you'd have more mechanical faults & running issues not related to white smoke, of which is usually coolant

White smoke is fuel or coolant. Blue or black smoke is oil. it was probably not coolant since level is ok and you checked for a blown head gasket. I agree with HouseCallAutoRepair that it may be bad fuel injector(s).

But bad fuel injector would get a "Check Engine" light going and codes comming up. It could be very thin oil being used at the wrong climatic condition. Auto factors put on sales on winter oils in summer and vis versa and people pick them up by the gallon not knowing its for the next season.

Mine burned white smoke after like 5-10 minutes when I first bought it. Changed the thermostat and now it takes like an hour of idling to happen. The exhaust still stinks though even without the white smoke. I have no idea why but the exhaust smells like ass. You can smell it from the front seats sometimes. It's more embarrassing than anything. No loss in power she runs great. Just annoying ass shit like that and an oil leak somewhere around the header. It could be that valve stem shit you talked about lol. These cars are a nightmare bro. But sure fun to drive.

I have the same problem just had a new timing chain put in and ready to seel and notice white smike after driving all day. Did a compressions test before the timing chain and it was same on all 4 cylinders. Just did a head gasket test and never turned yellow....i would feel bad if it was something serious and sold it to someone. I dont know what to do?

Have a 2007 mini with smoke coming out, got diagnosis they said cylinder problem. Could repair that but probably compromised the whole engine. And would cost over $ 10,000.00 to fix. That's too bad nice car. Probably sell it as mechanic special. 🚗

I rebuilt my own head :) Changrd valve seals decided to port and polish the head too for better air flow. Changed all seal on rebuild.

Hi, 2days ago brought a 2012 R56S, 156Kms. Having same issue, white smoke coming when engine is hot & idle. There's a slight oil leak near rocker covers ( no dripping to floor). I checked radiator for any air bubbles while running the engine, nothing observed. It has been recently serviced with new oil filter, air filter & spark plugs. That's all I know about the vehicle and I'm really worrying now. If I do a vehicle diagnostic test ( Quoted $175/hr.) from a local repair shop will it give correct directions? or what should I asked for mechanic? When I check the forums for similar issues lot suggested following, 1. Thermostat Replace 2. Liqui-Moly Resealer Engine Oil Treatment 3. Head Gasket Replacement 4. Turbo service 5. PCV system checked with pressure analysis I know nothing about vehicles, and can you tell me where to start?

This is EP6 - the worst engine ever. It has so much issues that couldn't be located and much more issues that are already known to everybody who has repaired this engine at least once. So rebuilding this engine becomes too expensive for those who decided to open this Pandora box. But I have one question to you: what about smoke check?

Feed a thin rope into the spark plug hole bring the cylinder up by hand at the crank compress valve spring with tool replace the valve seal...

you'd spend more time doing that, then you would if you just use compressed air into the cylinder, you also don't really want the cylinders to move as a whole as again your making a job twice "if not long" to complete

My mini just started doing that. Only a little bit of white smoke when the car is very hot. Is this a bad problem? I just got my oil changed too and did a full synthetic and the person i bought it from didnt tell me what they had been putting in it. Let me know

Probably not a big deal but no guarantees. just keep an eye on it. if it gets worse take a look at it. and check your oil regularly.

White smoke is typically coolant. A blue’ish color would be oil burning. If you just had your oil changed, someone could have possibly added too much oil causing it to start getting passed seals and burn off. Simple check of oil level will tell you that.

yes in the last few weeks, its abit of a pig taking the car apart is the easy part, removing the gearbox... if working alone get a crane/hoist to take the weight of the gearbox as its heavy towards the rear & wheel arch side aka awkward to handle alone.. I managed however it cost a new clutch line & I'd to repair the light sensor cable.. fitting the clutch & flywheel is incredibly easy refitting, again with a hoist/crane make sure the gearbox is held horizontally front to back (LH -RH if you've some play that's ok) as you can level it up freely as required, but making sure its held horizontal to the engine is key just so uknow, yes the gearbox is heavy to carry especially within the engine bay area, hence using a hoist/crane. refitting everything else is another walk in the park.. also make sure everything is out of the way ie little brackets, coolant hoses, cables etc the oil filter housing & bracket so many moan about isn't a concern if you lift the gearbox up vertically into position
