Since its an iGPU, faster ram plays a very important part. We already saw that in the 780M, 8600MT/s had up to a 30% FPS boost in avg and 1% lows over 4800MT/s when tested on desktop in games

Thanks for the review, looks like a very powerful little box. Something to note: At 4:12 you are running 272 processes and 4600+ threads. If someone carefully tunes their system you can get to around 100 processes and around 1500-2000 threads. It makes a massive difference believe it or not with game performance. Especially with the 0.1% and 1% lows and overall latency. On my Windows 10 machines I usually have 75 processes upon booting into the system and on my Windows 11 machines around a 100. There are many online and YT guides on this like Chris Titus script, Fr33thy, etc. Just something I thought a lot of people would find useful, especially with these machines.

I feel like ETA has no idea how FG works and is just enabling it because it makes the FPS number go up on paper without taking into consideration how it actually looks/feels in motion compared to no FG. AMD has literally said themselves that FSR 3 FG is designed to interpolate up FROM 60fps, not up TO 60fps, so I have no doubts that the games in this video reaching 60fps with FG look awful in motion. This is because it wouldn't be my main PC, instead I'd use it as a home server, AI would be a good addition to keep it future proof as it might come in handy when using it as a self contained AI assistant for the house. The thing is that people who want power would go for a normal PC, a decent gaming PC could be built for around 1k$, the steam deck is a great affordable PC that is powerful enough to do gaming, so I think the sweet spot for these machines is somewhere in between, so they can be more powerful than a steamdeck but cheaper than a PC. Version with 64GB LPDDR4@7500 would be interesting for experimenting with running quite large LLMs on it - possibly a bit slow but without VRAM limitations that consumer GPUs have (note that LLMs are sensitive to memory speed, so 7500). So such version should be availabe even if a bit more expensive. Also, having three NVMe slots inside it begs for including an Oculink adapter for one of those slots (and hole in the case for port) - similar solution Minisforum provides for some of their mini PCs.

Great Review! This is a production prototype I believe and AMD is not expected to release this APU until the end of the year for miniPCs and many are wondering how this company will have this one available in October. In any case I am hoping to see variant of the “Venus” (UMx90) & “Mercury” (EMx80) series from Minisforum for the magnetically attached 98Wh & 196Wh power modules that you stack under your MiniPC (I call it the “Tower of Power.” It will have a USBc PD output and 5mm/2.5mm 19vdc power coax receptacle input/output along with a 150W or 120W 19VDC power brick for charging. It will include a Windows or Linux ‘Battery’ USB connection software. I have been working with a 162Wh version for about a year that has held up nicely. I would be happy to send you production prototype ‘ETA Prime’. I am trying to keep the cost below $200 and make the battery pack module user replaceable.

Neat, and nice with FSR on a dedicated graphics card. This could be useful as an always on mini Steam sever/streaming box for an Android handheld. Not sure about pricing and while neat, it's probably not for me at this time. Wish them best of luck with the crowdfunding. I really hope one of these companies partners with GOG for a mini PC or a handheld eventually.

External mGPUs are coming out with 4x pci dedicated connection running at 100watts. Will bump you up to 1440p high quality. With 8-12GB of vram. They're small enough to fit in your pocket. So if you want to game, get a deck or handle with a egpu connection port.

I think that barebone variants in the beginning would be a good shoot for new 890m models, like for example some mini pc with 780m chip, as it would be perfect solution for customers, giving a essential new chip but also give a freedom of upgrade and additional spending depending on user budget. Something likes Minisforum done. For barebone 890m I would pay £600 right now.

Honestly I prefer it this way, sodimm is slower and that iGPU is starved for bandwidth. I know there is LPCAMM2 but it is so obscure right now that I honestly prefer soldered ram (it they will go with 7500MHz, if they will go with 6400MHz I may go with sodimm)

Niche product, but a cool one to see. If you can spare even a little bit more desk space, I recommend building a SFF system instead. For the price this thing costs, you can build a system that is still small, but leagues more powerful. I have one using a 4060LP, I was able to bolt it behind my monitor out of sight. Not to mention it uses discrete parts, meaning it can be upgraded and parts can be sold, so further savings down the line.

Pricing, since it was asked from reddit. Right now you can get a barebones MiniPC from GMK (M5 Pro, has dual 2.5GE) with a 5700U for 219. Adding 2x32GB DDR4 is ~109, then whatever two NVMe drives you want (2TB is around 110/each right now). That puts that older APU SKU build at around 328USD before storage considerations. Since this new prototype has soldered memory but comes with three NVMe slots I would say the OEM should price shift the difference from the 5700U(ram only) -> AI370 from a tray BGA cost to them. Personally if this new unit had dual 2.5G or even 5G networking I would drop 499-549/each on a pair of them. But the OEM needs to also consider the handheld market in their pricing. There is no screen on this mini PC, with the likes of the steamdeck, the Ally Extreme and the Ally X, Legion GO, ..etc its going to be hard to justfy a miniPC against those given the flexibility. Having an ally extreme myself I have no real desire to get a AI370 or anything from the up coming APU gen to replace it. I suggest the OEM to consider what I said about dual Ethernet, maybe linking up with Servethehome as a market segment for homelab and SMB reviews too. Interesting little boxes!

I'm currently running a Minisforum UM780 XTX - 7840HX w/ Radeon 780M. I've got 32 gigs of 5600 MT/s RAM. The much faster RAM of this prototype certainly helps - 32 gigs is my personal minimum. Also, it's got 4 more CUs, and half a generation better RDNA (i've heard somewhere that the +0.5 step is the result of a cooperation with Samsung), so it IS new silicon, but not new enough to call it RDNA4. My current mini also has "AI", but i don't use it - Copilot in an incognito browser window doesn't need an NPU - i don't use/need client-side genML. Why would anyone need 3 M.2 SSDs - do it like Minisforum, and make a hole in the chassis, for an OCuLink port - that's the only reason why one would need 3 M.2 sockets! Who is SOUYO - is this a subsidiary development department of a bigger company which doesn't want to be named - like a burner phone? edit: what SUOYO shouldn't do like Minisforum is their support - if they want to get a foot in the western market door, they need to do better than minisforum. Also, using intel 2.5 gig NICs, instead of Realtek, helps.

Run Senua's Saga: Hellblade II on the mini pc. I think it would get brought down quite heavily but there's some cooking you could do to get it going: 1. Use the optimal/low graphics settings at 1080p with FSR balanced/performance 2. FSR frame-generation mod which works, or even LSFG at 3x interpolation to take fluidity higher. be sure to cap to a couple FPS below whatever the system can handle pre-framegen to get good frame pacing. Considering it's a slow paced game which doesn't care about input lag much, i think we can achieve a good visual show on the minipc. I wonder how Stirix Point Halo will do compared to this. Leaks say up to 40 CUs but even at 32 it would be incredible.
