I brought mine back from a great aunts garden in Virginia. She recently passed at the age of 96. I cherish these onions.

Hi Robbie, I just ordered some walking onions from your link. I am in the Gulf Coast area of Texas so will be able to get them outside fairly soon. I am so excited to get them started. I began gardening using your tote and kitchen scrap composting method last year in my front yard. My purple and green tree collards are doing great. My fall lettuce is so good. I have learned so much from you and Gary. Thank you for all you do!

I received a clump of walking onions over 30 years ago from a coworker, plopped them in the ground and they've been prolific in my zone 5 Mich garden. I've given tons away to anyone who asks. I am able to pick either the initial green stalks in the spring or later the cute bulbets in summer and put them on everything from scrambled eggs,salads, soups, tacos and casserole topping. I also find they're a deer repellent so I plant them around hostas and flowers

I bought some after I learned about them from you. I didn't buy any more these past years, even sold a full pot for $10 in a yard sale years ago. They're all over my yard. Thank you, Robbie.

Your teaching us about walking onions was very interesting! I really enjoyed seeing how you make your cucumber salad. I use purple onions and I add a little sugar. I had never thought about adding onion blades, but I will this year. I have never added them to my potato salad either, but I will try it now. Your food looked so good! ❤😊😊❤

Thank you so much for posting this video ! I have my walking onion bulbs from eBay you recommended on my counter ,after work I’m going to put them in a lil pot with soil to keep so they don’t dry out like you said. ❤Thank you , I could have lost 20 bulbs because I would have stored them in an envelope ;) Just to let you know it looks like they are spouting already

Hi Robbie. It's raining here in Western Pennsylvania a good amount of rain actually where we are suppose to get snow ❄️ What's difference between walking onions and salad onions or wild onions???
@frederickwarrick12944 ай бұрын
my maternal grandparents were sharecroppers in upstate NY during the depression. My grandmother grew walking onions. When they left the farm our "aunt" took some of them to grow... 90 plus years later i am using the same strain here in Va. a hundred year old strain....... I vacuum freeze the onion bulb for winter stew as a pearl onion and replant the pods

I'm in zone 7B, Maryland. I got my walking onion bulbs in early March 2024 and started them in solo cups. I transplanted my walking onions into the ground around April and now in June they already have started to "walk" and plant themselves. At this rate my plants might walk twice once in the spring and once in the fall :) Ah I miss being in CA it's so easy to garden there minus the water issue.
@RobbieAndGaryGardeningEasy6 ай бұрын
It sounds like you are doing great with your walking onions, and I do agree it sounds like they will walk again in the fall. And Maryland , I’m sure is very nice, as California is just too expensive these days, and it has its own issues. 😊❤️

I was given these onions by an 85yr old woman 5 yrs ago. I am in zone 5b. Mine grow babies twice a yr. BUT I throw the babies in the ground actually now, in June, July, and then in fall October November. So actually IDK . I use the older plants to grow babies and I replant and share them. And I kinda use the babies for fresher tender onions. I pull up the old bulbs as onions leaving half still to keep making babies. My son started growing these 4yrs ago from me and hasnt bought onions or chives since. He digs them up, continues to cultivate and uses the bulbs greens, and all.
@gibsongirl68166 ай бұрын
sry, one thing, NO they will not grow if dry.
@sylviakust799910 ай бұрын
Do you put holes in the container? I feel stupid asking this question. Thank you.
@ChrisJohnson-pd4hh10 ай бұрын
What would happen if you did not put holes in the container? They could become waterlogged of course. The holes are for drainage. If the plant becomes waterlogged the roots are starved of oxygen and they will suffer, maybe die.
@lyndasimpson408510 ай бұрын
Thank you ❤
@RobbieAndGaryGardeningEasy10 ай бұрын
No question is stupid. All my containers have holes, sometimes the holes are on the bottom, sometimes the holes are on the side, sometimes the holes are 2 inches up from the bottom. You have to put the holes in where it will work for your gardening Container❤️

Hi Robbie, I live in central Florida zone 9B. My walking onions do not reproduce. I don't think it gets cold enough. I have had them for two years now and they do not get the baby onions on top. It's a bummer because my wife loves onions. I got the Texas multiplying onions and they multiply like crazy but my wife doesn't like them. Go figure.

This is my first time growing walking onion, they didn’t seed out this year and are dying back, idk if I did something wrong. Am I supposed to spoon the bulbs like regular onions or keep them covered in the dirt?

Can you please help me with this question? I just picked some bulblets from a friends garden. My question is, can I plant then while they're still green or do I have to let them dry, then plant?

What I am wondering is, if I cut the top bulbs and green stalks off, will it grow again? Or is it necessary to pull up the bulb(s) in the ground also when using the tops?
