The wavy design is actually the hamon "edge pattern" where clay was added to the edge of the blade (in a pattern that would be the "signature" of the sword maker) to keep it hard during tempering. Really nice attention to detail that they found a way to represent it in the sword.

Actually, it can be very specific: the amount of clay added to the blade differs from each other, the thicker layer of the clay is applied onto the spine of the katana blade, while the thin lines of the clay is applied onto the edges, even sometimes parallel to each other. This will create a _hamon_ to split the soft spine and a hard edge after the quench.

Great Review Mecha. I definitely like the aesthetics of this kit. It looks the Astray Red Frame has been hitting the gym and abusing the roids. Plus it just gives me a Max Steel Strength Mode vibe in general.

In one hand, I love the giant ARMS! It has such a unique Silhouette! Like giving a Iron Arm Suit the arms of the Hulk Buster! In the other hand, why they didn’t give it a GIGANTIC KATANA!!!? Something like the LONG SWORD of Monster Hunter! I have the MG RED ASTRAY, the one with the HUGE SWORD!! I would love to see it swinging it around with one hand!!

Well, canonically, the giant sword this machine gets is actual sword sized. So, I would say no sword is fine, though it would be nice to get at least the broken version.

@@legomancb12That's cause that was the metal build version, which also includes the ability to have both powered arms and regular arms on at the same time, which you can't with the hirm. Daban used that for the mold, it's lkely bandai did the same thing and reused those molds (p sure the arms didn't have metal joints despite being metal build, but I may be wrong)

Interesting fact, and also fairly useless, the blade "crests" along the cutting edge are actually called a hamon line. Hamon lines are caused when the blade is hardened and actually marks the area where the differentiating hardness areas meet traditionally involving a hardened edge with a softer spine! Knowing that, its actually an even GREATER level of detail and is really awesome to see because its still recreated even on the HG red astray kit and makes me love them even more!!!! Love the vids and keep up the great work!!!!! 👍🤘

I got the 3rd party (sorry daddy Bandai) powered arms from Daban - came *with* two swords *and* the ridiculously oversized giant sword (broken blade version) and one thing I noticed on this review? BANDAI TOOK THE EXACT RUNNERS/PARTS FROM THAT KIT! So if I really wanted to, I could pop those onto my HiRM kit from 2018!!

the daban kit was actually based on the P-bandai metal build powered arms add-on set btw, which might be why you see some shared parts since Bandai already made a powered arms before the hirm one (and arguably better because of the giant gerbera straight)

I had the metal build version of this with a total cost of about $900. Upper articulation was awesome but the legs barely went past 30 degrees front, back, and sides. I eventually auctioned it off at eBay for a $400 loss. That is how disappointed I was the the metal build. This this kit brought my hopes up!!! This kit had me on that front kick and side splits! This kit will be joining my 28 metal build gundams🤑

It is claimed to be stopping scalpers selling kits at inflated prices. Stores who have delas with Bandai and official distributors are okay. Spoke to my local Anime store in Australia

They're not stopping shipping outside Japan, they're asking specific Japanese retailers to not ship outside Japan. Bandai will still ship Gunpla outside of Japan to any non-Japanese retailers, especially their official retailers like Bluefin, and AFAIK Hobbylink Japan is still able to sell outside of Japan because they're following the guidelines set by Bandai to counter scalping.

Good review. I thought that this kit would also have the 150 Gerbera Straight [Power] (the one with no blade but with a Lohengrin Cannon). Of course the Powered Red can hold the 150 Gerbera Straight (a giant Gerbera Straight which in scale-wise a replica katana)

The 150 sword is literally the only weapon the powered red is supposed to come with, so it being missing on this kit makes the kit pointless. Even if it just came with the broken blade version the kit would be worthwhile.
