I loved their interview after the matches, so friendly and so nice. I like the fact that Taba can create miraculous saves. His game with Yu Yangyi and how he saves the game in the preliminaries would be arguably the best showcase of hope for such young grandmaster and the spirit of fighting until the end. That game was the real magic of chess.

@@jonshelvey849 no I was looking at it from the perspective of: black plays rook to E8. White queen takes rook, results in check. Black queen has to take whites queen, and then whites rook takes Black's bishop. Resulting in a queen and knight for black, vs white's 2 bishops and a rook.

I think it’s because the bishop on f1 covers h3, so white can go on the attack with Qc3 (threatening g7 checkmate). The knight on f4 is now hanging because Qg3 can defend from the black queen subsequent check. And if the knight moves, black bishop on d5 is hanging

@@johncampbell2296 No. You've missed the fact that when the knight goes to d4 it is check to the white king via the bishop not the knight. @venkatachengalvala42892 жыл бұрын
It is unplayable at the GM level (even more so in classical, long time-control games). For club players (like me and you), it's not completely unplayable but for GMs it is. Also, the problem is that there are very few pieces on the board (so very hard to make a comeback). If it were the opening and I'm down a piece for a pawn (or even a rook for a pawn), it's not as bad as this ending.
