There are not many people out there who aren't familiar with Star Wars lore. Even if you haven't seen the movies, people in general are familiar with memes and famous quotes from the movies. The fact that you weren't aware that Vader is Luke's father is a rare, rare find. It's like how we all were when seeing TESB in the theater back in 1980.

Luke looks different in this film because prior to filming, Mark Hamill got in an auto accident, which scarred his face. George Lucas decided to use this to his advantage by incorporating the Wampa attack early on, so as to explain "Luke's scar".

So Great to see a reactor not be spoiled by Vader being Luke's Father. This is one of, if not THE biggest plot twist reveal in cinematic history. 7:25 I really enjoyed your comment on Princess Leia being a strong female character written correctly. You are absolutely correct regarding how poorly female characters (in fact all characters) are written today. To see more well written powerful female characters from the past, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Ellen Ripley from "Alien" & "Aliens" (1 & 2), and Sarah Conner from Terminator 1 & 2. They both have a wonderful character development arcs. Both franchises are science fiction must watch movies that are high in quality for 1 & 2, Sadly, both franchises also lose that quality edge after their second movie.

Hey there, Aria! This was a perfect reaction from you. I felt so sorry for you experiencing such anxiety. Watching your thumb give that pen such a workout, lol. The Empire Strikes Back is probably the best Star Wars movie ever made. It is far more character driven than the previous film and has one of the best most intense lightsabre duels in the entire saga. Your reaction to the big reveal of Vader & Luke was priceless. Could not have been better. I don't know why I waited until now to comment on these reactions from you, because I watched these some time ago. Better late than never, I guess. regarding luke being too old: the jedi used to take children at around 3 to 5 years old to start their training in part because it's easier to teach them new ways of thinking. at around 20 years old luke has learned and become set in a way of thinking. this is part of why luke had trouble lifting his fighter. he believed it was impossible because all of his life he was told it would be.

It's really great watching a reactor who didn't know the big reveal of this movie. I've seen a lot of reactors, and all of them start with "I know the big secret so..." and while that doesn't affect my overall experience, I know it affects theirs. Seeing you traumatized by that reveal actually made my heart ache for you, but it also made me really happy to see someone who genuinely didn't know. When I first saw Empire in the theater as a kid, I was too stunned the whole time to have any emotional reactions at all. I would have reacted the way you did if I hadn’t been in shock. These original trilogy movies are so fast, dense, and eventful they changed the pace of movies forever. The quick edits, the multiple plot lines, and the sensory overload are intense-but Empire is practically traumatic. It’s amazing how committed to these characters you can get after only two movies. It’s a testament to the magic of the mythology. The Star Wars series created the culture of movie fanaticism: a movie that can become your life.

Empire Strikes Back is definitely the best of the entire series. The title gives it away, the Empire after losing in the 1st movie comes back & kicks butt all over the Rebellion. Mark Hamill bought a corvette with the money he made from Star Wars & promptly got into an accident which broke his nose & scarred his face. He looks different because of the reconstructive surgery. Darth Vader has to wear the mask in order to live. His whole suit is designed to keep him alive after he suffered a severe full-body injury.

Aria 24:36 the reason at number of stages Vader is trying to maim Luke and then towards the end he’s trying to entice Luke into joint him, is because the major fight of this movie is going on inside “Vader” it’s between Vader and Luke’s father!! .. there is conflict!! Vader wants to remain in control and kill Luke, Anakin saves Luke from this rage as he needs Luke to help redeem him.

3:15 The snow monster is called a wampa. Fun fact: they're close to a human level of intelligence, showing planning and group tactical organization in the books. 6:25 This is Vader's only option for breathing. He can go without the helmet for very short periods of time (as seen in the meditation chamber where we caught a glimpse of the back of his head), but it's basically keeping him alive. 13:00 If you want to see an even more hilarious version of the scene where Yoda first appears, check out Seagulls Stop It Now by the KZbin channel Bad Lip Reading. 20:20 You picking up on all these Dark Side references makes me wonder if it really was intentional on the part of the writers to build up the possibility that Luke might turn, a possibility that didn't occur to 2 year old me when I watched this for the first time. 30:10 This movie made me cry the first time I watched it because I thought they had killed off C-3PO for real when he got shot into pieces. This movie is the reason why Star Wars is still a thing, more than 40 years after it came out. The big "I am you father" reveal is simply the very best plot twist in modern cinema... and it came with a Sifi Movie! Ok, the Return of the Jedi is the very best of all the Star Wars movies for many, many people. But the Emire strikes back is my personal favorite. I just think that what the crew behind this movie managed to create out of the originslis just... phenomenal! And it is, without a doubt the very best sequel movie of all time.

IRL Ford and Fisher were having an affair. She was only 19 and he was much older and married. She put it in her biography before she died. She got an ok from him to put it in there. 5. Han's, "I know" was ad lib because Ford thought it was something Solo would say and required a new script to be written in the next movie. 6. You will learn more about the emperor in episodes I, II and III. 7. The next one wraps everything up and IMVHO is the best of the original VI Lucas episodes.

With the original trilogy, George Lucas managed to bottle lightning, _three times._ Now an essential part of keeping a story _good_ is maintaining some sense of _novelty._ I think, in TESB, he accomplished that by introducing three new characters (Yoda, Lando and Boba Fett). At the end of TESB, one of them is in _serious_ need of _redemption_ that comes in ROTJ, and that process involves exploring a whole _new_ world that, up to now, they've only _hinted_ at.

Darth Vader is the castrating and destroying father figure. When he cuts off Luke's hand, there is a strong symbolism. It's as if he destroyed a part of himself embodied in his son (direct reference, the lightsaber that was once his). This sudden separation from the sword also reveals that Luke must free himself from this sinister figure that his father has become, in order to build himself 😉. From then on, he will become an accomplished man and a true Jedi.

For those who care, the best recommended watching order is : Find the ORIGINAL theatrical releases of the Original Trilogy (OT) from 1977, 1980, 1983. The importance of this if for a couple of reasons : 1. See them as all SW fans did back in the day and get a feel for the vision of the time and the level of special effects of that era, and to experience this part of the saga in the same way. 2. Watching Episode 4 (original or 1997 Special Editions) AFTER the prequels (Episodes 1,2,3) will ruin reveals and cause confusions within the prequel trilogy - things of significance will go completely missed. The OT sets up many questions that get answered in the prequels, and seeing the prequels will - what is it the kids are always crying about... oh right - cause SPOILERS. 3. Seeing the OT also allows for appreciating the changes made in the 1997 SE films. The SE films will provide that seamless bridge between the prequels and the sequels, so you can have the benefit of seeing all the "Episodes" in chronological order, but without the spoilers. If you cannot find the OT, then watch the 1997 SE films first, and if you wanna watch them again later to fill the gap between Episodes 3 and 7, that's your call. After seeing the PREQUELS, watch the "Star Wars Story" films : Solo, and Rogue One - IN THAT ORDER. Even though they were released the other way around, events in Solo (which include, among other things, how Han net Chewie and how Han won the Millennium Falcon from Lando) happened well before Rogue One, and furthermore (and more importantly), Rogue One ends with a direct transition into the start of Episode 4 (A New Hope). To put ANYTHING between Rogue One and Episode 4 would be ridiculous. After you've seen the OT, followed by the Prequels, followed by the SW Story films. followed by the 1997 SE of the OT, you are now ready for the SEQUELS. Many have ragged on these films for their "woke" treatment, but if you can suspend that going in, you may find the films are not that bad after all. Keep in mind, a lot of SW fans are devout purists, and many more are what I call "elitist snobs" when it comes to their precious franchises, who think their opinion trumps all others. Screw them - those people are like movie critics ; they don't know anything but their own bias. So ignore the critics and the pessimists, and even the eternal optimists who praise the sequel trilogy too much, and just see them for yourself and make your own judgments. 🙂 If you are so inclined to check out the limited series : Obi-Wan Kenobi, (after SW Episode 3 ROTS), The Book Of Boba Fett and The Mandalorian (in that order, after SW Episode 6 ROTJ), I highly recommend them. The animated stuff is okay but it's rather vast (too many seasons and serials to keep up with and/or get through), and the modelling is a little goofy. 😛

The other TIE fighter pilots, other than Darth Vader. do wear black uniforms and helmets. They are 'Space Troopers' whereas the standard 'Storm Troopers' have mostly white uniforms. 7:54 'Those' are Imperial Walkers, specifically AT-ATs (All-Terrain Armoured Transports) the two-legged variety are AT-STs (All-Terrain Scout Transports). Many grown-ups think this is the best of the original three, with a more emotional and character driven plot. Many children like the Space battles of the other two.

You are so amazing, Aria! I'm enjoying your reactions so much. Your anxiety is exactly how we felt when this first came out. The father reveal blew everyone's mind. No one saw it coming. In today's age most reactors know that twist going in. It was so much fun to see your innocent reaction to it, exactly how it was for me as a kid. Now just imagine.... we had to wait a year or two for the next one to come out. It was torture! The Christmas after this came out, they produced Yoda and C3-P0 backpacks. Kids lost their minds over them. There were very few kids who didn't get one for Christmas. Boys and girls both loved them. Just a side note and useless trivia: Stormtroopers use different armor for different reasons. The black ones you saw in episode 4 were Pilots. Tie fighter Pilots outfits are black with soft material since they don't need armor. And yes their helmets do look similar to Vader's. Later you'll see black troopers in regular armor, these are elite soldiers. The troopers you see on hoth had special helmets and armor that protect them against the cold. Even the troopers on the desert planet wore slightly unique armor for the environment. In the prequels you'll see white Stormtroopers with different colored stripes on their armor. Flamethrower troopers have red stripes, platoon leaders have yellow stripes. Etc. This info isn't important to the story so much as its just interesting. Also, As you should know by now, the Emperor has his own trooper guards who are in red armor. Anyway, I really enjoyed your reaction. I've seen hundreds and yours was by far the best one. May the Force be with you! I'm off to see your Return of the Jedi vid. I'm so exited for that.

what’s great about empire is that Luke isn’t the hero (for a good reason) Luke is riding high on the warm breeze of just blowing up the Death Star and is met with the humbling cold of Hoth, the place where his idea of being a hero is shut down by the cruel reality of being selfish. He feels throughout the film the very weight of Failure at every turn. In the end his pursuit of being the hero leads him to peril and the cost of lives around him. Learning who is father is shows him he has a lot more growing up to do. obi wan knew it, Yoda knew it and Vader knew it as well. That was the REAL reason vader couldn’t kill him.

Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) looked indeed different … that is because after filming ep. 4 he had an ugly car accident and in spite makeup, the scars were still to be seen during filming ep. 5. Only now I saw you’re from India - that explains the wisdom … that and also more questions emerging. Like I said - patience … everything will unfold just as it should. You’ll be so glad that you decided to watch in the release order - you’ll see. Follow the story itself and you’ll certainly understand why this is such a great saga … I’m referring to it at present tense, just the same as I will always refer to Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia). Now you know about the SW international celebration day … without spoiling anything, here is how that looked like at 2019 celebration, the teaser trailer for ep. 9: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qajPfmWlo9qEnKc I can hardly wait to see you reacting to ep. 6. @@ariachanson01 - Rogue One was a very good film, and gave me great hope for what Disney might do with the franchise. But Solo and the Disney 'trilogy' were very weak on story lines and broke canon a lot. I will also give Disney credit for Mandalorian, which is a very well done series. Keep going with the Lucas films and definitely do Rogue One and Mandalorian after watching episodes 1, 2 and 3. After that it's your choice of course, but I wouldn't go in with great expectations.

I agree with Kat: I'm 55 - so I was ten years old when the first STAR WARS came out in '77. I've watched all nine in the 'main sequence', and I've also watched the two "off-the-main-sequence" films ("Solo" and "Rogue One"). There's NONE of them that I actually REGRET watching - but it's also true that I enjoyed some of the films much more than others. There are sections of various films where I felt, "That was a lousy creative choice - it doesn't seem like that beloved character would evolve like that." Does that make me wish I had never watched some of these movies? No. The worst experience you could have, when watching various STAR WARS films is to come away thinking, "That was disappointing - they took something special and they mishandled it." It's true that many feel that way, but that doesn't guarantee that YOU will. There is ONE film in the sequel trilogy that, after seeing it, I realized I had no desire to watch it a second time - which was a first for this life-long STAR WARS kid. If you are disappointed after one or more films, there's always the, "head canon" approach: "I've privately decided that the sequel trilogy films 'aren't real' - they took place in their own separate universe, and I choose to ignore them ((to pretend that they never happened, even after I've watched them.)) ...the actual story of what happens after Episode VI has yet to be told..." What you decide to accept or reject as part of the 'real' Star Wars universe, is up to you! :) Overall, I think a good strategy is to go into the Prequel films, and the Sequel films (if you choose to watch them) with NO expectations. One of the reasons A NEW HOPE is remembered so fondly, is that there was nothing similar to compare it to, when it was released. If "Episode I" had been the first film made (no previous STAR WARS films), audiences' experience of it, would have been entirely different - because their expectations and their comparing-this-to-that, would have been different. I enjoy your videos!
