Obi-Wan’s hanging braid is a Jedi tradition common to all Padawan Learners. When his master feels that he has reached proper maturity, he cuts the braid with his lightsaber, signifying that the student is now a full Jedi Knight. When fully dressed and in make-up, Natalie Portman and Keira Knightley resembled each other so much, that even Knightley’s mother Sharman Macdonald, who visited the set, had trouble identifying her very own daughter.

I still remember how much I enjoyed watching this film as a kid back in 1999. That lightsaber duel at the end with Duel of the Fates playing in the background gives me goosebumps every time. I at first thought that Anakin building a protocol droid for his mother was vaguely ludicrous -- after all, was she expecting to entertain foreign dignitaries or something? But then I realized that she did have a Jedi Master and the duly elected queen of Naboo in her house, and that she had a son who has prophetic dreams, so maybe it wasn't too far-fetched after all.

Just wanted to encourage you to not skip over the animated series, in your Star Wars journey. Even if you just watch them off screen, they each contain some of the best Star Wars content, and provide almost all the lore, backstory, history, character development and character introductions, that are the basis for most of the live action series and really expands the Star Wars Universe. One word of warning, when watching The Clone Wars series, I highly recommend watching it in chronological order, as it jumps around a lot for the first few seasons and can get rather confusing. Thankfully there are a bunch of watch lists out there to guide you. The shows budget was rather tight to begin with, as the show was originally just a side project, meant to satisfy the fan base, while waiting on the sequels. But as it grew in popularity, they started pouring money into it, which allowed the creators to go back and finish off or expound on storylines they had to drop previously. You'll also notice that each season the graphics and animation continue to get better. If you are interested in doing reactions, you may want to consider only reacting to the larger multi episode story arcs and watching the rest off screen, or just reacting to several episodes per video. The last thing I'll mention, though it's quite a ways off, if you watch the animated series that is, to watch the 3 series in release order, Clone Wars, Rebels and then Bad Batch! As with the films, multiple scenes will hit different if you watch them chronologically vs release order.

4:50 Naboo is the planet, but it's also the name of the planet's human inhabitants. So THE Naboo refers to a race of people, while Naboo by itself refers to the world they share with the Gungans (Jar Jar's species). The Gungan underwater city is Otoh Gunga, but it's on the planet Naboo. 5:55 The first fish, with the long tongue, is an opee sea killer. The second one is a Sando Aqua monster. The one that shows up later is a colo claw fish. 10:10 If I remember correctly (I think it's stated in one of the books), yes Captain Panaka does know which one is the queen and which one is the decoy. 26:00 His name is Darth Maul. His master's name is Darth Sidious. 33:10 He's half the man he used to be.

To translate Jar Jar’s explanation why he was banished (boom the gasser the crashing the bosses heyblibber then banished): Jar Jar was working as a cook on Boss Nass’s personal watercraft (heyblibber) when he accidentally blew up a gas stove. The resulting explosion caused part of the watercraft to flood which led to it crashing. This wasn’t Jar Jar’s first major accident, but the Bosses decided it was his last and banished him.

37:34 so Sidious believed the prophecy could be altered!! his ego and darkness blinded him to its reality!! as the ancient plan of Darth Bane was to infiltrate the galactic senate and from this position create a vortex that would effectively effect the whole galaxy (war) and give him necessary time to put into place a plan with which to eradicate the Jedi order and establish a new political system (Sith empire) with of course the use of possibly force sensitives i.e Jedi who would conflicted in some way, however Sidious never thought he would meet the chosen one.

11:37 No, but he should’ve been. Qui-Gon’s death changed everything and created a massive butterfly effect, that’s why that music during the lightsaber fight is called “duel of the fates”. Fun fact, Qui-Gon had already lost an apprentice, his name was Xanatos. Qui Gon knew the signs and what to look out for, he could’ve stopped Anakin turning. I remember knowing about that decades ago because I read the old Star Wars books in primary school and they were set before this film. A lot of it revolves around him, Obi Wan and Qui Gon

Aria, it's taken me so long to comment on this, so, better late than never. A little background, as I mentioned before, I grew up watching Star Wars when they were released in theatres. I, like many other fans, had to wait 16 years from Return of the Jedi to The Phantom Menace, in order to see a new Star Wars movie on the silver screen. The hype for this movie was incredible. I worked at a movie theatre when this film was released. A movie theatre that held nearly 1000 people and with a great big screen. There were people camped out in line at this theatre for more than 3 weeks. It was crazy! When it came time to see Phantom Menace, I left with mixed feelings. I like this movie, but don't love it. Qui-Gon Jinn is by far the best character in this movie, and Amidala/Padme is quite good too. Anakin is okay, but not that interesting. I was fine with Jar-Jar, unlike many others. It was very disappointing at how little Darth Maul was in this, especially after how he was hyped. The lightsaber duel is spectacular, and maestro John Williams' "Duel of the Fates" piece is magnificent. Overall, this movie is good, not great. Loved your reaction. Watching you smile over R2-D2, and seeing Samuel L. Jackson is very delightful. You're clearly having fun with this series, and that's what Star Wars is all about, FUN!

So Aria the reason for two goes back to ancient times during a time of the da dyad, so the Successor to the Doctrine of the Dyad, the law decreed that only two Sith Lords must exist at any given time: a master to represent the power of the dark side of the Force, and an apprentice to crave it and train under the master and to one day fulfill their role, The Rule of Two doctrine, also called the Banite system and known as Chwayatyun in Sith, was the guiding principle of the Order of the Sith Lords after the internecine New Sith Wars. It replaced the practices of Lord Kaan's Brotherhood of Darkness, which claimed equality among Sith Lords and forbade the use of the title "Darth". The Rule of Two was instituted by Darth Bane, once a student at Kaan's Sith academy, in response to what he viewed as inevitable, self-destructive infighting within the Sith Order. The Rule of Two states that there would be only two Sith at one time, a master and an apprentice, guaranteeing that when the apprentice becomes powerful enough in the ways of the dark side to take the title of master, only then would they be worthy of the title. This transfer of power would only take place when the apprentice takes their master's life and finds a worthy student to repeat the cycle, this way the Sith will grow more powerful and still exist through the new master. Both master and apprentice were considered to be Sith Lords. The practice survived with varying levels of enforcement for a thousand years until the murder of Darth Tenebrous at the hands of his apprentice in 67 BBY- Darth Plagueis held the doctrine in contempt, and intended to live forever together with his own apprentice, Darth Sidious. Although the latter betrayed and murdered his master in accordance with the Rule of Two and trained apprentices of his own, never more than one at the same time, he did not fully accept it, following instead his own Rule of One, in order for him to continue as the ruler of the Sith.

Have you ever come across the JarJar sith lord theory? It's based on a lot of circumstantial evidence and George Lucas interviews taken out of context, but I find it weirdly unshakeable. The premise of the entire theory is that JarJar is some absolutely diabolical sith lord that is either allied to Palpatine, or is playing 5D chess and manipulating everyone including Palpatine, to lead galactic events down a certain path, and playing the role of some "clumsy" halfwit to move everything into place. There are some great videos on it, the theory ranges from fans going "wouldnt it be cool if..." to "George Lucas legitimately planned for a JarJar sith reveal, but backed down after fans hated JarJar". There's some quote from Lucas around the time of the prequels launching where he talks about how he wants the new trilogy to echo the originals and classic storytelling, for example you find a wacky guy in a swamp and they turn out to be some great warrior or something (in reference to Yoda), but in the prequels surely only JarJar fits that description... The evidence for the theory is the myriad times JarJar "blunders" his way to success, like a drunken boxing master. The amount of handwaving he does when talking, and then characters do what he wants (like the jedi mindtricks we've seen). The way the seemingly random events he puts into action cause them to talk to Anakin a second time, which leads to them getting to know him. The way he tells a young Anakin that he thinks the Queen likes him. The way he gives Palpatine emergency powers, that lead to him creating the Empire. And certain other facts, like JarJar's mega double-spin jump that he does jumping in the water, athleticism we never see from another gungan but we see Palpatine do a similar jump when fighting Windu. And there's a scene where the Queen's guard is trying to persuade Qui Gonn into letting Padme tag along on Tatooine and they've animated JarJar mouthing along to the guard's words, as he's saying them(!!!)

Hi! i’ve understood you’ll try not to skip Clone Wars, which is really good !! :) The idealistic plan would be that you watch The Clone Wars by following the chronological order list after you watch Ep II but BEFORE you watch Ep III Revenge of the Sith (actually stop at S7 Ep 9 on the list because the end of Clone Wars is intertwined with the movie Ep III. Some would actually say to stop at season 6). If you don’t have time or don’t want to wait, i still suggest you at the very least to watch the first 9 episodes of the list (see below) and then watch ep III, you could watch the rest after. S2 E16 - Cat And Mouse S1 E16 - The Hidden Enemy The Clone Wars Film (theatrical release) S3 E01 - Clone Cadets S3 E03 - Supply Lines S1 E01 - Ambush S1 E02 - Rising Malevolence S1 E03 - Shadow Of Malevolence S1 E04 - Destroy Malevolence

To achieve mastery, they must depose their tutor. Darth Maul was a vicious fighter, but he wasn't treacherous enough, or perhaps, never had the perfect opportunity, to challenge his Master.

I'm glad you like Jar Jar. People HATE him and that hate, unjustly magnified a million times over the years by bitter starwars fans for hate's sake, has gotten really annoying. Hearing that someone actually likes the character is refreshing.

1. Of the prequels I like this one the best mostly for the POD race and the underwater sequences, 2. Jar Jar is mostly comic relief since we don't have C3PO 3. Liam Neeson was very busy with various productions at the time and was in huge demand and agreed to do this episode because Qui-Gon Jinn dies and he won't be obligated to do more. 4. How Jar Jar becomes a "general" is beyond me. 5. It's easy to know why this one didn't start the series because of the lack of CGI back in 1977. 6. Of all the reviewers I have watched you were the first to notice the Queen switch-a-roo. 😎 7. Here's where you lose me. My ranking of the original 6 episodes: VI/V/IV/I/III/II 8. I watched a review of "The Force Awakens" but it's just a rehash so no Disney for me.

“Why are we looking at him?” It is supposed to be very obvious who this is. We are shown most of his face under the hood of the cloak and we hear his voice so that it is very obvious who he is. We are supposed to recognize him from these two things. We are supposed to know so that we can witness his behaviour before his identity is revealed to the other characters. How do people still miss who this is when it is purposely revealed to us? I guess it shouldn’t be too surprising since lots of people miss that Ewan is Obi-Wan despite him being called by name as soon as we see him at the start. I guess people just don’t pay attention,

Heya! I'm late to the party, but I'm happy to see your reactions! Something I will note: go back to Return of the Jedi and listen closely to the music that plays when the Emperor first arrives, and then listen to the happy, celebratory music that plays at the end of this movie. Listen closely to the rhythm more than the melodies. Also, you asked at the end of this video if the Emperor would have won sooner if not for Anakin in here in Episode I. But now that I see you've seen all of the prequels, let's look at who came out ahead in this movie. Naboo went from invasion to freedom. Anakin went from slave to Jedi apprentice. Obi-Wan went from apprentice to full Jedi. Palpatine went from Senator to Chancellor. A lot of winners, here. Who won the most, do you think?

It's not your accent but your pronunciation. You're saying it with a "W" sound but it's actually a "V" sound. All Sith sabres are red.

Hi Aria. STOP!! If this is your first time watching StarWars, you have to watch the movies in RELEASE ORDER not chronological order; in other words you start with episodes 4,5,6 then 1,2,3 after that you watch episode 7 then (Rogue One) and finally episodes 8 & 9. Otherwise you’ll get confused and discouraged and ruin your experience.
