I thought the first one was very overrated while I found this to be underrated. The performances are all great, it looks amazing even better than the first one and I thought most of the songs worked. It does get a little boring in the middle right around the trial part though. If you think of this movie more of a story about Arthur Fleck than the Joker I think you'll like it more. 7/10.

I understand what your saying and I also understand what the movie is saying “no one cares about Arthur they just care about the joker” and it’s like YES that’s exactly right that’s why the first made over a billion dollars. And I found it in poor taste that Todd went ahead and added the guy cutting the smile after Christopher Nolan axed that happening in the first film.

The best theory I've heard is that neither Todd Phillips or Juaquin Phillips wanted to do a sequel. But WB really really wanted it so they made the movie as a joke itself. (Kind of like how Joe Dante made Gremlins 2.) _edit:_ Wrote that early. Antonio has a good point about souring people on the character being a part of it. I think he's right. I agree with Aiden that it's not intentionally "bad", but I might say it's intentionally "meta".

I definitely get the meta vibes of it, but to me no one put a gun to either Todd Philips or Joaquin’s head to make this movie so it’s like why’d you even do it in the first place.

I barely got through the first movie. Almost everything Joker had to say - and more - was said in Parasite, which came out the same year. That being said, at least the first Joker seemed to have things to get off its chest. The new one doesn't seem to have any actual message, other than postmodern 4th wall breaking, that complains that people liked the first movie for the wrong reasons.
