I picked up the Dmp A6 I gotta tell you… I’m absolutely loving this thing. It’s amazing how easy it is to find your music. It’s just incredible. I’ve taken all my CDs…. Converted them into flax’s incredible so easy to navigate, and so easy to find any of your music you’ll find yourself constantly listening to more music because it’s just so easy to reach it… and on a sidenote, I’m using the fosi v3 … which again is a great product as well and that seems to give me very very good sound good and clarity.

Yeah, a couple days ago they added full band equalizer and parametric EQ via an update. They had this in their back pocket the whole time and then just released it out of nowhere. Game changer for this streamer, I have the master edition. When I first heard the sound quality, I was skeptical, but after a couple weeks of break in this thing is sounding magical, well worth every penny.

I have a WiiM Mini hooked up to a Fosi Audio DAC and out of that I have a set of DT770 Pro cans. When I listen to my Tidal Max music through it its honestly blown my mind. When I next decide to upgrade my set up something like this is definitely on my shopping list. Thanks for the video, GS

@@uglybob7505 I've heard reviewers suggest moving up significantly when you're ready so you'll hear a significant difference vs small incrimental upgrades. I'm currently searching for a used ares 2 dac or a bifrost 2 dac. Good prices used but a huge step up dac wise from what we are using (modi dac into recapped 70s integrated amplifier for me)

Always enjoy listening to your takes on gear. I might have to keep this one under my radar just because of that pretty screen and fr display lol A legit question though. Are everyone's ears built in such a way that differences in dac, like soundstage, would be equally perceived by all? It's a minor gripe of mine when something might potentially vary from individual to individual, or in general, and yet is unequivocally classified as being fact, eg, by the usage of a universalisation such as ______ _is_. I enjoyed how Till's 'to my ears' left him with enough latitude to encompass those possible variations. On the other hand, when a fact is a fact, by Jove, it's a fact! Kudos again for the proficient and professional work :)

Love both your channels and you do a great job in your reviews. Just wanted to start with that. I have the master edition and upgraded the powers supply. I could not be happier with my choice. I sold my Auric Altair and go this. The master edition in my opinion is a way better dac and easily outperforms its price point. Just so you know the maester edition is a warmer presentation which it what I like as far as sound. Thank you for your awesome reviews on both your channels.

I would consider myself more of a music listener than an audiophile. With that in mind I ordered the DMP-A6 at the end of December 2023 and it has become the hub of my sound system, feeding a Yamaha integrated amplifier, some Polk speakers, and a subwoofer. I’m in the process of re-ripping all my CD’s into FLACs on my PC and storing those in a large folder. As I rip, I update a fast thumb drive (for the DMP-A6) and also a microSD card for a Sony Walkman DMP. After the bulk work, I’ll switch from using the thumb drive as primary storage and will move those files onto an SSD installed in the DMP-A6. That’s the simple part. Additionally, I’m using the DMP-A6 as a streaming platform for Tidal - and for radio stations in my area and other parts of the country where I’ve lived. When I want to listen to CDs themselves, I use my single disc CD player as a transport, feeding the DMP-A6 via fiber (or run an old Sony 5 disk player analog into the amp). I was pleased to see the equalizer show up in the latest update, which also gave us the ability to add selected android widgets for one-touch access to my latest music queue, EQ, Tidal, and my list of radio stations. I’m sure I could measurebate the various objective (technical) and subjective (all the other audio gear and my own fallible ears) qualities of all the DAC-ish and streamer-ish boxes out there, but I don’t think that’s the point of the DMP-A6. This is good consumer-grade gear that gives new life and capabilities to existing sound systems, or provides a keystone component for a new or upgraded system.

I will use the streamer exclusively with USB Cable (no coax/aes-ebu/opt/i2s) so theoritically i dont care about clock implementations... Do you think Holo Red is better than dmp-a6 even with a USB Cable Connection?

Have the WiiM Mini and Pro and was initially satisfied. The DMP-A6 (I have the Master Edition) came along and it was something I never knew I wanted. It's been my main music streamer ever since.

Hi, and thank you for the great video... I have an odd question, FIP, which is an excellent radio praised by worldwide audiophiles for its eclecticism and sound quality, was on Tune-In till recently, but the Radio France group which it belongs to didn't renew the contract with Tune-In this year and a lot of people listening to it on Tune-In now don't know where to turn for having it natively streaming vs bluetoothing it from phone or computer. But this radio station (and the others belonging to the group) can be found as an app. though, be it on Android or Apple Store. If you see me coming, you will have guessed my question, which is Is there any streamer which allows today to stream directly or semi directly from one of these apps. I think I saw some using Alexa or Apple Play but not too sure of the method... Any insight on the subject would be really welcome if you have the time... Thank you.

How would you compare the streaming performance of DMP-A6 to its bigger brother A8? Are there any benefits of choosing A8 over A6 if I care only about bitperfect streaming of local files? Furthermore, which streamer capable of streaming local files (either through connected USB disk or internal storage and ideally having WiFi) under $2000 would you say has the best performance over USB to DAC out (I don't care about any extras like internal DAC/AMP or even online streaming, I don't use those)? I'm currently using Auralic Aries with femtoclock (the old plastic version, not the new G variant) but it's getting old and its local streaming is a bit clunky. On the other hand it supports music library on USB stick (sadly it does not have internal storage) and UPnP control over WiFi, so I'm looking for something similar and A6 seems to tick those boxes. I just don't know whether the performance of it (as digital streamer) will be on par with my old trusty Auralic unit. Any recommendations for best performing digital streamers (I really like the Holo Audio Red, it's fairly small and unassuming in design, but I'm not sure whether it can stream local files and it does not have WiFi, so it might not be the most convenient for my use case)?

just purchased this unit , have been using my roksan attessa streaming amp which has bluesound node built into it , i used to have a stand alone bluesound but it sounds better in the roksan as using the roksan dac . i would say this unit sounds a little better than the bluesound , am using monitor audio gold 100 5g speakers with it . have tried a few dacs in my time and on my pc i use RME ADI 2 dac and that is sublime with my focal clears ........

You didn't mention how it's one of the very few decks that enable listening to original quality apple music streaming service. Are you able to verify that it actually does that? Also I see there's no hdmi in but there's hdmi out. Is that for displaying over tv or just for audio? I have a nad c-510 with hdmi in, would that be a better choice than opt in? My unit came in a perfectly handled and sealed box yet a loose screw was jangling around when I rotate the unit. Upon shaking it came out where the NVME gets installed. Very unhappy with the QC on the sample I received. I am sure mine works but it’s going back to the dealer. I noticed another review on amazon also had a loose screw inside their unit too. Like lots of chifi this one appears good by initial impressions but the longevity will bother be there!

As mentioned, the Z8 or Z6 have an AMP, but its mediocre. Your best bet would be to get a A6 as a streamer (and as a DAC initially) and a separate AMP.

@goldensound Thank you for this video. It's very well scripted. I really appreciate you. Gain a lot from most all your videos. I want to point something out though. In your description of the outputs on this piece you seem to imply that the usb out implementation on a streamer doesn't matter because with an asynchronous usb DAC the DAC does the clocking. Implying, in other words that if you're going usb to your dac that the streamer doesn't matter, or not for jitter anyway. That is just not the case. Even the best USB dac implementation is affected by the quality of the streamer, and it's not just noise. I know of only a couple usb dacs that can almost completely negate the effects of lesser streamers/computers/servers. Rockna, DCS. But that is an entirely different universe. As we know.

Set it to fixed volume out in the software. And don't use the volume control on your dac either. Attenuate volume in the analogue domain with a good pre-amp Digital volume control sacrifices a lot.

WARNING - If you buy this to use as a DDC for your PC. You cannot select any digital outputs if you are using the USB C connection to your PC. WTF.........you can only use the optical , coax or usb output if you are using the internal player of the device. So dont plan on running any external DAC's if you connect this to your PC. I really wish Golden Sound would have mentioned this.

Why are you still on about jitter? It is NOT a problem and haven't been since a long time. You have been very reasonable about audio in the past so why are you keeping that myth alive? Also I'd like to see you pass an ABX test between this DAC and any of the other ones you mention, I doubt that you will :) When it comes to the functionality of this thing it do look interesting though, but my Shield still does the job with it's perfect sound quality so I'l just stick to that.

Thing is that our threshold of hearing jitter is WAY higher than what even the worst DAC can produce, I mean like hundreds or even thousands of times higher. And tbh I'm quite confident that you and probably most other people that think jitter is a problem doesn't actually know how it sounds, so again, look up Archimagos blog and have a listen yourself and you might learn something new.

i've come to the conclusion that watching hi-fi reviews is now pretty much worthless, every time #thelatestthing comes out a channel will praise it to the high heavens... whilst another channel will be praising something else to an even higher heaven. that old thing we reviewed last week ? forgetaboutit. even if the reviewer is legit, and not pay for say, then he or she is totally undermined by the entire payola industry set up to hype train the latest audio products. ftr i think this guy comes across pretty straight, but the whole review industry is in disrepute owing to manufactures buying people off.

One more reviewer who is basically a Roon user so was not really exposed to the tiresome, badly thought out and illogically laid out layered user interface of the device, which a user who does not use it solely as an endpoint of some server software has to endure all day long, rather than once during setup. From a usability point of view, when a streamer is tested a reviewer should of course test Roon compatibility but should mainly focus on the device being used 'stand alone' so to speak. Also fwiw, that jitter performance is worse than average for a well designed and implemented device, in this day and age. I expect to see at most double digit jitter.

@@GoldenSound Let me give you a small example (there are a multitude of this sort of issues). If you want to listen to an external digital source you have to leave from where you were, go to inputs and select the appropriate input. If you then you want to listen to a local file, you can go and select that and... it won't play because you forgot to go back to sources and select a different input... Please compare with a reasonably well thought out UI like the one in BluOS. In my opinion the Eversolo software is a confused mess with spaghetti interface. It's tiring, illogical and confusing to use. Of course, If you are mostly doing one thing, like streaming Tidal, there's no issue.

I had a similar experience. Same with the hi fi rose. I think These all in ones are great for a casual situation like a kid in a dorm room or in a second system or something. They are not really serious in the sense of getting the most out of digital music files. Might be a fairly economical way to try streaming digital music if someone doesn't do that yet but any serious listener (for example someone with a decent vinyl rig) would quickly become dissatisfied with the sound.
