Why are you surprised this comes from a new player ? Many speedrun strats come from new players, since they either stumble unto something while learning the run, or test around for stuff that works for them. The old guard knows what works for them, and do rarely stuff by accident. That is why getting new runners into runs is very important for every community.

I can't tell if this is serious or not. Whether you enjoy speed running or not it takes an insane amount of skill. Some of these players put literally thousands of hours into these games. There really isn't a need to disrespect them and their hard work just because you don't enjoy it. If it's not for you please just ignore and move on like most people do with hobbies they don't like or approve of.

I still have mine and if you get another one and hook it up to a modern 16:9 TV, you could actually play DK64 in that aspect ratio mainly cause HDTVs were only starting to make a presence in 1999 in north america but has been in Japan since the early 90s. I have been quite interested lately by watching some of these speedrun videos on youtube.... not that i would ever be devoted enough to try them. I used to consider myself a little obsessed with Goldeneye and Perfect Dark in the late 90s early 2000s but i truly can't imagine still being obsessed with them 20 years later.... that's not to mock anyone who is still spending chunks of time playing them, just that the amount of effort and time put into it vs the reward seems a bit depressing. :(

I just mean i can imagine spending years trying to shave a half second from a record and then actually achieving it and having a big wave of euphoria.... then once the euphoria fades i imagine thinking 'damn, no one really noticed.... and what could i have been doing instead?', a certain emptiness to the feeling. But still, I AM NOT trying to mock anyone that truly gets enjoyment out of doing this, everyone has their hobbies, and i'm not into judging people for however they get their kicks. I think i would also be a little afraid of spending all that time to get a record only to have it beaten a week later....

Goose, is there any chance you'd cover Perfect Dark's Skedar Ruins? I'm just dying to know more about the clip that skips half the level, seen in Boss's full game run on Perfect Agent, and in many other runs of the level I've seen. One second he's walking into the pit that normally kills the player, and next second he's close to the inner sanctum before the final boss. How the hell does it work? Plus I'd easily watch an hour long episode about speedlore on Skedar Ruins, I'm sure Karl Jobst has put quite a few hours into that level.....

I think the new Brawler64 multicolored controllers are the most usable nonofficial controllers, but I'm not sure what the speedrunning community would think. SteelSticks64.com is another option to use an original controller but replace the joystick parts with high quality components.
