Oilers had the 4th best offense, the Canucks only 2 spots behind at 6th. Canucks were also 6th in least goals allowed while the Oilers were 10th. The narrative that the Oilers are already Stanley Cup champions and that the Canucks were just some farm team that they would easily roll over is wrong. Canucks didn't get 50 wins this season because of flukes and lucky bounces, Tocchet drilled them hard on their defensive game so even if they get out shot they don't get out scored. Let the goalie see the first shot then have the big guys clear the rebound, it's what they've been doing all year no matter who is in net. Rangers are doing the same thing right now to the Hurricanes. Carolina has been badly outshooting the Rangers every game but NY is still up 3-1.

I like how the editing conveniently leaves out McDavid’s slash, and how Button glosses over the fact the face shot was clearly accidental. Intent matters! It’s obvious from the clip that Soucy throws a chest-level crosscheck towards McDavid in retaliation for the slash, but with Zadorov pushing him forward at that exact moment it causes the motion to connect with his face/neck instead. It’s unfortunate, but if you eff around after the whistle you’re gonna find out, like McDavid did. Move on.

Upon reviewing the replays of the incident, it is not obvious, as Craig Button suggests, that Soucy was aiming straight for McDavid's head. The reason being that McD's head was directed downwards as a result of Zadorov's cross-check to his back. We can therefore assume that Soucy was perhaps aiming for McD's upper chest, not his neck / face per se.

Soucy already got a penalty for cross-checking McDavid in Game Three. As well, NHL reviewed it and determined to suspend Soucy one game further. However, in Game 2 McDavid did not get a penalty for highsticking Quinn Hughes cutting his face as a result. To make it worse, the ref forced Hughes out of the ice. So, NHL allowed McDavid to highstick Hughes and got away with it but Soucy got a penalty AND one game suspension for cross-checking McDavid! What double standard !

Take a look back on the McDavid high stick to Hughes face... I'm not saying this shouldn't be a suspension but it needs to be consistent if they choose to do so. I’ve never seen someone get suspended for slashing the shin pad of another player, usually a 2 min penalty. Cross check to the face however, should be at least a 5 game suspension. Same punishment Morgan Reilly got when he cross checked Grieg in the face

McPrincess started it, two hand chopped him, and then the Princess dove instinctively after getting cross checked by Zadorov and because he dove, Soucy unintentionally hit him in the head. Clearly no intent to injure, therefore should be no suspension. Reilly on the other hand, he intentionally targeted the head and was the one to start that scrum after an empty net goal.

Craig didn't even watch what happened. McDavid gave Soucy a two-hand slash to the leg FIRST, to start this whole sequence, which was after the game had ended. So Soucy responded and was intending to give McD a cross-check to the chest. UNFORTUNATELY, Zadorov hit Mcd in the back just as Soucy was starting his cross-check and McD's upper body dropped and put his face in direct line with Soucy's cross-check. So CLEARLY, Soucy was not trying to contact the face, he was just defending himself from McD's slash. The fact that McD and Soucy were not injured on the play indicates the level of force was not significant by either player. Why wasn't there a review of McDavid's slash, since he was the instigator? Is he Trump-like and immune to NHL justice? It seems so, since he high-sticked Hughes in the face and drew blood and got no penalty (should have been 4 minutes) and it should have resulted in a disciplinary review. Craig Button can say whatever he wants, but he should look at all of the video before he starts ranting and raving. NHL justice should apply equally to stars like McDavid as well as to the rank and file players.

wow tsn is putting the Oilers in Leafs company. McDavid with a two hander after the horn and he paid for it. He did it last game as well. If there's suspensions. McDavid should get one as well.

Both opposing team players need to be suspended both Canucks, need to be gone for those cross checks. Mcdavid’s leg slash, was hardly a slash… it was also protected by pads..

This was a deliberate attempt to injure. Any time you cross-check an opponent in the face, you could break his nose, his cheek, his jaw, or worse yet bust his throat. This should be ten games suspension. It was not even issued a match penalty. Boy, I miss Semenko, McClelland, and McSorly.

So funny that they will NOT even aknowledge Hyman's crosscheck on Zadorov's face that drew blood and required stitches. Mcdavid wasn't even bleeding and Soucy gets suspended, but nobody even bats an eye to Hyman.

Let me weigh in on this one. Don't care if you agree or disagree. Just stating what the facts are. McDavid and Soucy were both slashing at each other when the game ended. Scrum between the teams ensues. Zadorov blindside crosschecks McDavid BUT Soucy's stick is already in a position to go for a headshot. McDavid has his stick on the ice. When McDavid is crosschecked by Zadorov, Soucy follows through with the headshot. Like it or not Canucks fans, the NHLPA will have a look at this. McDavid won't receive any punishment from this in my opinion. He is the NHL's golden boy. They will get severe hate if they suspend McDavid.
