This is how billionaires are made, 800% profit trickle up to the owners. When people complain over inflation, they don't realize that a big part of the price gauge is due to greedflation, making the billionaires.

This is not a small issue. This is what happens when the super rich is handed massive tax cuts while making a 800% increase in profits while their workers pay more taxes then they do . This country will never achieve the goal of health care for all, or affordable housing until this gross injustice stops. The laws that protect the rich, and the politicians taking bribes especially legal bribes must be changed, before the people have no choice but to force change any way possible .

This is what I’ve been trying to tell people who blame the president and government for high prices in the grocery store. It’s these millionaire owners of these companies who made such huge profits off of a global tragedy that left most Americans struggling to put food on the table. We need to place blame and fight against who is responsible for the price gouging. I stand with the dock workers because they deserve to get what they are owed! They were given a 50% wage increase offer, more into their retirement savings plan and more into their health care plan. The union said "NO". So much for Reagan's trickle-down economy - as with the grocery chains, which are also just less than a handful of corporations with highly & excessively overpaid CEOs, the soaring profits never find their way to the workers who are the backbone of these companies. For decades now CEOs have become unbelievably rich, without much threat of actually paying taxes on their staggering salaries and bonuses, while their employees can no longer afford life and living. Besides that, now corporations are also buying up housing like mad - time to elect leaders who are working for the people, not the billionaire CEOs and corporations. And in America that is definitely the Harris/ Walz team.

Taxes should be structured to prevent anyone from becoming a billionaire. The greed of corporations and owners is insatiable, while workers' financial needs are finite and should be addressed as a legitimate cost of doing business. Workers do not owe anyone their right to pursue and secure happiness for themselves and their families. These bloated corporate owners don't build the ports, manage the navigation systems, or build the roads and infrastructure that support shipping. As a society, we need to respect each individual's role in commerce. That someone should become a billionaire, while another struggles to pay household bills while involved in the same industry is insane.

Quick question, how much does the average dockworker get? I did a quick Google, known to be wrong more times then not, and in America the average dockworker gets paid $20.61/hour. Is this correct? It seems really low. I am Australian, our men a women dock workers get paid $33.68 / hour for inexperienced workers. It goes up to 35.68 for experienced workers. These aren't the bosses, these are the average lineman. Even with the USD to AUD, it means Australians get paid $3.00 / hour extra. Doesn't seem to be too much, but when you consider that for that 61k per year, we have free healthcare, the first $21,000 dollars is tax free, the next 13k is pro rata'd then the next 28k is the full tax rate of around 0.35c/dollar. They get a minimum of 4 weeks a year holiday (accumulative, so if you don't take them you get 8 weeks the following year), 8 days a year sick leave (accumulative, meaning if you aren't sick in a year, next year you have 16 days sick leave), lower cost of living, maternity leave, paternity leave, bereavement leave etc., This does not include around 11.5% of the workers pay, paid out to the employee's superannuation that the employer pays. Seems to me like your workers are well deserving of a pay rise. This also does not include overtime pay. Overtime pay, depending on what was negotiated, starts off at time and a half. So that $33.00 becomes $50.00, and that is for the first 4 hours. After that it can go as high as double time and a half. That's $82.50/hour. The tax man takes a big chunk of that, but come tax time a lot of it comes right back to you. Each pay gets calculated as if you got that weeks pay for the rest of the year, but you don't get paid that every week. So the tax man then gives most of it back to you. Again that is with free health care, for the worker and their family. Oh and I almost forgot, if you work there for 10-12 years, you are entitled to what is called 'long service leave'. What long service leave is, as a quick example and depending on the state; employees are entitled to take 8.6667 weeks of paid long service leave after a period of 10 years' continuous service. Each year that it is not taken, that figure goes up. If you work in a business for 15 years then decide to leave, you will get, on top of any holiday leave you are entitled to; around 16 weeks paid long service leave. That is right, all holiday and long service leave not taken when you leave, you must have paid out at the current hourly rate with full entitlements. How can one of the richest nations on earth, pay so little to so many for doing so much? Then justify that by spending trillions on their military. I don't get it. So someone please clarify, as I must be wrong. So to the dockworkers of America, please know whilst we cannot physically stand with you, Australians are standing with you. Do not cave in, you deserve much better.

Australia certainly has it's benefits, but the snake's and spiders and crocodiles kind of make it almost like danger pay. But then again you got the Hemsworth brothers and Hugh Jackman, if I need to be worried about rogue kangaroos or cassowaries and magpies just to get scenery like the men in your country, it seems worth it to me. And you get free healthcare should a feral koala decide to attack. So ok you sold me, where do I sign up? I'm off to get my passport.

After WW2, the British government made the decision to nationalise strategic infrastructure. Both as a result of war damage AND the preferred disposition of profits to shareholders as dividends in the PRE-WAR period; the critical infrastructure of Britain was in a terrible state. By the 1980s the infrastructure was sufficiently robust for a Conservative government to use the reason of "the efficiencies and savings of private enterprise" to persuade Parliament to privatise one segment of infrastructure after another: water, gas and electricity utilities; road and rail transport, etc, etc. The prices of all these services have increased well above the rate of inflation: profits, dividends and executive salaries have gone through the roof while the infrastructure has deteriorated due to lack of investment. Prices of everything are above European averages, while service has deteriorated in delivery and performance due to cost-cutting. Accidents due to cost-cutting and deteriorating infrastructure have cost multiple lives in numerous avoidable incidents. This is the reality of privatised infrastructure, as opposed to one operated by the people for the people. America has had its own share of avoidable RAIL accidents, BRIDGE collapses, etc in the last couple of years alone. Nothing to do with the Administration and everything to do with 50 years of corporate profits and cost-cutting.

77% wage increase over the next 7 years, -22.4% inflation over that same 7 years means 54.6%. That's nothing, especially when profits were up 800% starting 5 years ago. Give it to them, it's not even enough to cover shrinkflation and corporate price gouging.

I get the workers' frustration, but also realize automation is always the future as it was then and is now. Prayers for peace.

From what i hear from other news sources, port workers aren't exactly getting poverty wages. 3. Also from other news sources, the head of the union is a pretty wealthy person himself. I know, not fair. But the optics is he's profiting from union negotiations. 4. My last point. I believe greed can exist on both sides of the negotiation table.
