The key to profits is at the purchase price, volume & operation cost. If you feel you are over paying change up your sources sometimes convince cost more. I also had business cards when I do garage sales I give them my card you will be surprised the calls I get to come get the items for free or reduced prices.

I have found ephemera sells better in lots for me. Lot together like items. Like postcards, Christmas, easter, valentines day for cards. Invoices from the same businesses, checks etc etc. pictures can do well individually depended on size and type (tin type etc)

I had a similar experience picking up 100's of Playbills all from NYC 1936-1980 & Magazines. Estate sales see absolutely no value in them. They are slow movers, but I have already made $125 profit. They are great buys, and fun (for me) to look at.

All that ephemeral stuff, WOW! It always saddens me tho at those estate sales, all the family photos, memories, etc. that nobody wants. I'm very sentimental and I just find that sad. I realize that sometimes its because they don't have family to pass it on to but, a lot of times its because nobody in the family wants it. I hate that. So much history. Well, at least you are rescuing it for someone that appreciates history since ephemeral collecting is becoming a thing now.
