Honestly, if you have the SONY FE 85mm f1.8, stick with it. That lens is surprisingly good and used, its fairly cheap.
@martingreenberg870Ай бұрын
I own this lens. I used the A7C body so small and lightweight is for me. The 85/1.8 is about as large of a lens I want to carry all day. 85mm isn’t a focal length I use much so since I bought this lens I want it to be inexpensive. Is there much of a difference between f1.4 and 1.8? Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)

what if I don’t? I’m looking at buying an 85mm and I find the amount of lens in the budget segment a bit overwhelming. Samyang 85mm 1.4 Sony 85mm 1.8 Meike 85mm 1.4 Surei 85mm 1.4 Viltrox 1.8 STM II Where I live, Sony and Samyang is the cheapest of the bunch. The next cheapest option is the Surei but it costs nearly 150€ more than the Sony. Is it still worth it over the Sony?
@HappeningPhotos15 күн бұрын
Had the Sony 85/1.8. Sold it and bought the Samyang 85/1.4 for less. About to upgrade to the smaller/lighter MkII just for the size/weight savings. I'm a pro event shooter, and the extra 2/3 stop helps in the bat cave conditions I work in.
@classic.cameras15 күн бұрын
@@HappeningPhotos The Sony is a great lens but if you need a slightly faster lens, of course. I have the Sigma 85mm f1.4 myself. Turned out I really didnt need to upgrade myself and would have been better off sticking with the sony 85 f1.8.

Nice this lens has aperture ring, but it seems like it doesn't beat the Sony 85 1.8. Which I got used for much cheaper. The price is similar. But the fringing wasn't optimal, but the Sony also has some, but this one seems to have it quite bad. But I don't think the aperture ring issue would be a problem for meas I simply wouldn't have my finger there. Great to see more competition.

Nice review Tom, but I was hoping for a bit more detail on the lens sharpness and AF in stills mode. I agree with you on the aperture ring. Some other reviewers mentioned that Sirui was planning to tighten up the ring on final production models. We'll see.

I had a Nikkor lens back in the day with a similarly annoying issue of the F-stop ring being too easy to accidentally knock out of Auto, even with a little lock switch, it would sometimes become unlocked in my bag. The solution? A small strip of black electrical / gaffa tape, over the ring and body on the underside of the lens. It doesn't even need to wrap all the way around the lens, but just enough so that the ring doesn't want to move without significant force.

Good video as always, a comment about 21:9 came up and I want to add more to it and say that it’s not about the choice per se but the fact that it literally looks like a 16:9 frame/focal length/composition with black bars like in those “serious” moments with the problem that the editor forgot to remove them

The L mount is a closed, proprietary mount. Proprietary to the L Mount Alliance. They probably set the terms and conditions for everyone wanting to do something for the L mount. Maybe Sigma intervened against Sirui full-frame lenses, as Sigma might not welcome this cheaper competition?

I know it's just the way of things now, but I lament the fact that these sort of lenses are always Z mount and there never seems to be an F mount version. I get why, just a shame for those of us who don't really want to (or can't) move to mirrorless at the moment.
@tubularificationed25 күн бұрын
Luckily, uprising companies like Sirui make the entry more affordable 🙂 Regarding camera bodies, because mirrorless is in the market already for some years, respective 2nd hand used markets had also some time to develop, which helps affordability today?

Best option would be a second hand Sony mki version. Why don’t reviewers ever talk about second hand prices.

Because GM1 lenses are scalped for 90 percent of their retail price, even if they look like dogshit. I legit have seen a GM 70-200 V1 for €1800 that said "like new but autofocus doesn't work" 🤦♂️
