We most certainly need something to improve the fuel economy of our personal way of transport. Here in Canada, one gallon of gasoline is close to $7.50. So a typical fill-up can cost close to $100. That is not acceptable. Even if a new improvement could save 20%, that is not enough. It certainly helps, but it is not enough. If we all lived in a compressed environment like Denmark, Hong Kong, or New York City, where the typical automobile is impracticable, or not necessary, public transportation is very efficient. But we don't. Here in North America, we need our pickup trucks and larger cars, as when in many cases we have to travel long distances to get to work, groceries, and different lifestyles.

I messaged the creator Dan Singleton about this exact idea a few years ago and he told me that unfortunately as of then there was no intention in creating a retrofit kit for older vehicles.
@torbenalstrup3902 Жыл бұрын
@@JBeck2468 That is correct, which is a real shame both from a business opinion and also from an emission type of opinion. While EV seems to be the future, however enviromentally dirty in the production phase, they are less pollutive in the user atmosphere and that is all that counts for people on that side of the isle, - who also VERY RARELY have the need for other transportation than the subway. (Slightly biased, but still) 50% of the developed world could most likely handle a transition to EV´s within a 10-12 year time frame, but that would leave the lesser financially viable countries in the dust- litterally speaking, because that is where all the precius metals are being excavated. But it is not the first time developments are being directioned towards new vehicles alone. There are several systems out there already which can improve average fuel efficiency with 6-10% on almost any vehicle. The problem with those systems are that most of them fight higher Nox levels, which is of course bad. BUT, when looking at the TOTAL amount of Nox per driven km. it is still 3-6% LESS than conventional. Sadly these systems are illegal in most countries because they interfeer with the car´s ECU, and in many countries it is illegal to modify the ECU and if you get caught in an inspection it is so expensive in fines and "authorized" correction that you migh as well just scrap the car. The main problem is - once again - that the people legislating within these matters do not have the sufficient background to make these laws on a knowledge based foundation. Think of it. Would you hire the average social worker to do the roof of your house? If we were not governed by stupid laws and regulations that primarily is to ensure that the goverment has its dirty little snout down in every little thing that has the potential to pay a dividende- and at the same time create "equal levels" for both the person living in an appartment and the family who are living in a house, we would have been way further in the quest of using and reusing waste energy as well as saving on the energy spent. Bottom line is, I hope someone with enough skills in such matters are able to make a similar system to be retrofitted in older- and vintage cars, because there is a huuge potential. I have played a lot with conventional plasma igntion for race cars and tried to implement it onto street cars/engines. The power potential is there, the emission reduction is there, but the system I have been using are too high strung and i have not found the level where there is enough plasma spark to get the advantages but also make the plugs live for a decent amount of miles, yet

Three observations if I may, if the plasma doesn't have enough energy to ignite a match I can't see how it's going to ignite a compressed fuel/air mixture? Second, plasma ignition is nothing new, various systems have come on the market over, at least, the last 30 years. The most efficient ICE's are F1 units which run at some 50%, the most efficient road going ICE's are some 35%, 20% up on 35% is 42%? Wouldn't manufacturers have installed this already in their cars?

The big problem with hydrogen is supply and distribution. It might work for large fixed installations, but is impractical for individual cars fueled at corner gas stations.
@powertothesheeple54222 жыл бұрын
No they really are not. The massive amount of energy needed to create and store liquid hydrogen is completely counterintuitive to what you would consider a "green" energy. You are basically driving an electric power plant that runs off of hydrogen - you cannot run any current ICE engine of hydrogen due to its very low energy density and terrible efficiency. It would have to be bespoke to specifically run off that fuel and would achieve 30% efficiency at best. So you have all the complexity of an EV (sans the battery) and the complexity of a hydrogen powered fuel cell all in one. The only benefit Hydro cars ever had was the faster refueling times compared to charging. Soon EV's will be able to charge to 80% in under 15 min so nearly every advantage of a hydro car is being eroded away by the evolution of EVs. Least we not forget that H is #1 on the periodic table, meaning the smallest element we know of, so it will literally eventually leak out of any container you can possibly make to store it in.

If they can get the ignition to be smooth like a normal spark then it'd be wonderful. Not only could you get better mpg, but more power and torque as well. However with the current ignition wave pattern caused by the numerous psuedo sparks the system would significantly reduce engine life. With the current burn pattern it would induce rod knock, and piston slap in a similar way to a severe misfire caused by not only bad spark, but also but afr. So basically with where the tech is at now it cant be used in an engine, but it does show promise, it just needs to be developed enough to be precisely controlled so that the burn is even and clean.

While ev's are great. The combustion engine isn't going to just vanish and be obsolete like horses were. And in reality the better and cleaner an engine runs the more power and efficiency you can achieve. It will also help the motors last longer the more complete the fuel is burned leaving less carbon deposits to cause wear.
@michaelparks31062 жыл бұрын
I think the ICE will be obsolete just like horses were. Over the next 20 ~ 40 years it will be phased out and will only be owned by hobbyists and collectors. The cost benefit alone will drive the conversion: I have solar panels on my roof so the "fuel" for my EV is essentially free, and coasting downhill add free "fuel" to the battery. I will never have the ability to make gasoline at home, and coasting an ICE car will never put more gas in the tank. As for cost, my solar panels have generated over 70Mw so far, enough to have paid the installation cost 3 times over. Not to mention no cost for tune-ups, oil changes, smog certification, or most general maintenance that an ICE requires.

The FireStorm Plasma iPlug is a new entry in the formerly mundane area of Spark Plugs. All Spark Plugs produce "sparks" to ignite the Air Fuel Mixture in the combustion Chambers. FireStorm is different, it produces "PLASMA". By doing that, it eliminates the Catalytic Converter and EGR Systems and can still pass future emission requirements in California. Here is a clip: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5PaiXSmoLGbmMU Further testing after that clip was shot in Detroit proved a 70% savings in fuel all while affording a 125 More Horsepower. It is a Paradigm Shift in Air Fuel Ratio as this plug operates at 30 to 1 Air to Fuel Ratio. All current IC engines operate at 14.7 to 1 and require a Cat and EGR. FireStorm can even crack water right in the Combustion_Chamber thereby eliminating so-called HHO Generators. Can I hear fill your car up at the side of your house with the garden hose? YES!!!!
