Is this brand new FLSUN T1 the next evolution in high-speed 3D printing? We're going to find out!
Help support this channel! / needitmakeit
Faster isn't always better, but sometimes there is a big leap in technology and faster is better and that leap leads to better products and more innovation and so it continues.
This is the FLSUN T1, the little brother to the S1, there aren't too many bells and whistles on this printer, and personally I like a printer to be fairly straight forward so that I can upgrade it myself and makes adjustments easily as well. So is this printer the next leap in 3D printing tech, or is it all hype? We're going to do a deep dive to see if we can reach those stats on their website and then we'll even take the printer to the next level by installing 2 of our own upgrades to see if that helps as well.

Slow is smooth, smooth is fast. Also lying about the specs is such an annoying trend in the industry. While I do understand that they practically have to due to all the competition doing that, it would be nice to see a company shirk that trend

There's been rather negative reviews about the Flsun S1, especially regarding the flow rate claims and positional accuracy and it's repeatability. It would have been nice to see at least some testing about that, like a torture toaster or a few repeated and measured prints. Does this printer have the same hotend setup as the S1 (looks like it)? And how reliable is when it comes to printing dimensions and accuracy? How does speed affect this?

All in all this printer is actually great, and competetive in price. It's just the proper setting of expectations that damaged its reputation, together with the FLSUN S1. It is already great at 600-800mm/s, so idk why they need to overpromise 1000mm/s it is already great at 40mm³/s, and this is with a generic non special brass nozzle, so why overpromise with 90mm For reference, this printer is $540 here in the Philippines. The K1C is $550, and the P1S is sadly $800 (without AMS). Great deal, but no go for me as FLSUN gave me trust issues.

This is a really great point, and it's frustrating how much exaggerating most printer manufacturers are doing. The particularly sad thing is that they almost have to now because every manufacturer is doing it. Seeing it rip the first print off the bed is deeply concerning. Especially when it's turned down almost halfway from the listed specs

These new FLSUN printers def have flaws, but watching the infill go that fast is wild. The really exposed nozzle is not great. The printhead falling on a failure is also a poor behavior. I think 60mm³/s is more realistic for a constant flow rate, but it is impressive you got as high as you did. Gonna vary wildly by filament and settings, but being able to attain reasonable quality at extreme flow rates is what really matters. The 32mm³/s with PETG is impressive and the way it handles TPU is very nice too. Your airflow and sound mods are super cool! Better performance and wow so much quieter. Why can't companies do this better out of the box? I think the T1 makes way more sense for the money than the S1.

huh. so it's pretty clear the marketing is only for motion capability of individual parts instead of usable settings as an actual printer. the reason that they did the former is obvious. but what is also clear is they couldn't even have done the latter. i am convinced they don't even know what the actual printer is capable of, otherwise they would have already had the profiles ready, which they didn't. i mean, they make their own printer and make their own filament. the speed profile should have been ready on day 1. of course FLSUN is not the only one guilty of this. Sovol also released SV08 without proper profiles and left the YT creators with that uncompensated job. we shouldn't be rewarding companies for doing things like this. you certainly went above and beyond for the community, for that you have our thanks. to me having to run the nozzle way above desired temp clearly a sign of underpowered heater and overcooling of the nozzle, both technically fixable but not without paying extra. i would not accept having to run 280C simply because there is a 50C delta between reported and actual nozzle exit temp. that is just ridiculous and only useful for meaningless one time feats like a speed benchy or a vase mode print. tldr; 40cumm/s, infill and travel: 18k mm/s2, 900 m,/s

And what did you conclude? I am on the fence about him which is a shame as his other stuff is very good. But in this review he seems way, way too afraid to talk honestly. There's this whole sense of finding excuses for FLSun when in reality he should flat out be calling their BS and then tested what speeds the printer can actually do good prints at. But I guess he's too afraid to be left out next time freebies are given out. It's one way to kill your reputation fast. But it happens when creators want to grow faster and be given the latest things to review, so they can get the clicks when they publish early. But over time, it only gives manufacturers more and more power over reviewers. And if the shill gets tired of shilling and speaks up, there's always another channel with less integrity or more bills to pay that will happily take over...

Although he does criticize the printers faults, he does it in a way that's apologetic like hes trying to not offend the manufacturer. There is a slight problem in your testing methodology. Most filament manufacturers use Titanium Dioxide as the pigment for white filament. Unlike other colors, Titanium Dioxide causes a multitude of issues with fast, high flow rate printing. First, it makes the filament need to be run hotter. second, it's actually VERY slightly abrasive. not abrasive to the point that glow-in-the-dark, CF, or GF filaments are, but still abrasive nonetheless. I'd re-run your tests in a colored filament or black, and see if you get any better results.

I think we're going to see more CPAP fans come in as the go-to, there is some good potential here, but the sound is a problem, so I'd like to also focus on where we're placing the air, blasting it against the nozzle isn't ideal right now unless there is a new sock that covers it better, so could be arrange the ductwork around it?
@SwervingLemon
@SwervingLemon Ай бұрын
@@NeedItMakeIt CPAP fans are a good way to go if you need to overcome high static pressure, and if they're trying to move enough air to accomplish parts AND Heat-break cooling in an enclosed space while getting the mass of the fan off the effector, I kinda get why they went that way but the problem is they're using the cheapest off-the-shelf solution they can find. There are blowers that can meet the spec with a fraction of the noise but they cost a bit more because of better motors and better manufacturing tolerances. If they're optimizing BOM, the compromise they chose is probably the most sensible corner to cut, but it's clear that not a lot of thought went into it's design. Nero moved the fan into the case and had a similar noise reduction but didn't optimise the ducting for flow like you did. With the right blower and a combination of your approaches I bet it could be no louder than a non CPAP.

9:20 that looks like it is failing due to high/low spots (or backlash in the gantry at those speeds). I suspect high/low more, because it isn't mattering if it's going left or right while extruding, it's messing up in the same general 'regions', which seems like they might just have a non-ideal z-offset, make a new bed mesh while at full temp, or lay down a uniform starting layer to adhere to first? Also you said 'fast and accurate' Clough42 had notable discrepancies in certain X/Y that were enough to break alignments, seeing as how this is using IK, did you measure things in that regard?

All ribbing aside, why not use liquid cooling for the hot end, that way you don’t rob heat from the printer by forcing outside air in? I suppose this only matters with engineering grade filaments, but I don’t get why anyone would want a delta unless they’re making tall vases or other round-ish objects or (more likely) after the benefit of the heated chamber (see Prusa). E.g. offering print profiles but why not spell out how wrong it is that an 800 bucks printer comes with hardly any/shitty ones? Also, the speed claims are such BS and instead of calling that out, he makes it sound like it's ok that they may just have meant "rapids" (move speed). Which is not OK as no one talks about those. Pretty much everyone who sees the specs will assume they mean print speed. Everything else, almost, was said and not shown. We were told it can do dimensionally accurate prints and good/OK quality but he hardly showed any examples. No torture/tolerance tests. Why not print the same parts on the printers it's really competing with and showing us the results. Give us some visuals on what price is paid for the speed he settled on if any? I really respect the rest of his work but this one left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth. Just too much left unsaid. I truly think he should not review products if he can't ungag himself. To answer your question. The print quality is quite good. PETG seems a bit funny, it likes to show every little imperfection with that sheen, and I was seeing these little consistent artifacts with PETG, but not with ABS or PLA, I still have to wonder if PETG printing is different because it adheres to the nozzle to resist moves more. Long-term is something that I wonder about, there are springs on the machine to keep the Effector positioned correctly, so it should be good, but only time will tell, I follow up in 6 months would be a good idea!

How dare you say deltas are faster than coreXY! 😜 Seriously though, print quality at speed is just one aspect of a printer. And I expect for most people it's actually lower on the priority list than ease of use. So a review covering that aspect of the printer would be great. I think the FLSUN is not likely to come out on top in that comparison. It will be interesting to see over the next months if the T1 becomes your go to printer or just starts collecting dust. That's the ultimate review. I hope you'll post another video with a detailed review of visual quality and dimensional accuracy vs speed. Also compare to other commercially available, pre-built high speed printers, e.g. Bambu, Qidi, Creality. My preference for test models is for complex functional prints. If a printer can do a good job maintaining tight tolerances and high surface quality on a complex functional print, it can handle any model. I'm so tired of seeing benchies and vase-mode prints in reviews. Any contemporary printer should be able to print an excellent quality benchy in under 45min these days (speedboats are fun for tuning speed mods and youtube, but that's not what I use my printers for).

Absolutely! At this point - you're rather late to the game - pretty much every reviewer who isn't a total shill has concluded that the S1 and T1 printers are capable of roughly half the advertised specs reliably. 800 to 1000-ish mm/s actual speed only during travel. It appears to be possible to make it work at 500mm/s with certain filaments, but layer adhesion is the limiting factor and if you don't want your prints to be brittle as hell, you can't really print any 'faster' with this machine than with any other anyway. Acceleration is what reduces print times and that's kinda the only advantage these new printers have over older models. Not worth it for the money imo.
@ManjaroBlack
@ManjaroBlack Ай бұрын
I have a lot of experience with FLSun printers, modifying them, and printing at very high speeds, accelerations, and flows. This printer is amazing in its capability, but the maximum limits are not what you can print reliably at. I’d imagine in the best case scenario with a high speed PLA you could run a flow of 60mm3/s at 24k acceleration around 600mm/s. This is best case scenario. In comparison to my highly modified Super Racer, designed for speed, the S1 is about 30% faster. That’s a fantastic achievement. To put it in perspective, my super racer is a Bowden, the S1 is direct. The quality difference at speed is big. So 30% faster than the fastest modified SuperRacer and better quality. Just bad marketing.

I think you call them OK or decent later in the video but not showing any. It reminds my of how camera reviews went to shit years ago when the creators got too afraid to be kicked off of the freebie wagon so you had to read between the lines and notice what was unsaid. If battery life wasn't mentioned at all, it meant it was shit, bad plasticky build quality would be hailed as lightweight etc, etc. E.g. no torture tests here. You say it's great for dimensional accuracy but you don't show it. Just you trying your best to make it print as fast as it says it can, and then when it can't then going out of your way to not tell them off on those claims. Overall, I think you actually come off as giving them way too much benefit of the doubt. Like the whole S1 debacle didn't happen. You gloss over the fact that an 800 bucks printer comes with hardly any profiles and instead mention you will upload yours. So, yes, you offer solutions but you repeatedly don't spell out why you need to do so... You seem a afraid of actually using the word "no". As in when you ask whether it can print at the rated speeds or flow rate and instead of saying flat out no, you talk about how it may be able to do other speeds. And why would you not call out the BS speed claim and instead talk about how perhaps they meant non-print moving speed? No one ever who looks at the specs would think it's not print speed. You know this, so why try to find a back door for them? Call them out and then go about your testing and you may have found that it's still a very decent printer. Just one from a company who doesn't know how to not lie.

1 fan for both part cooling and heatsink is so stupid. Means high temp materials are out. Cpap inlet should be taking air from inside. Flsun keeps stealing ideas from open source community, and doing it wrong. I'm confused why you'd want to shill this hot mess. They lie about max flow rate, max height (try to print to max advertised height). Design of the air ducts is just bad, putting a muffler on the inlet decreases air flow, what's the point? I run cpap on several of my machines, never need to run it above 60% because I actually designed non restrictive air ducts, and angle air flow at the print not the nozzle, and never had a single temp error even during testing at 300c and 100% air flow. Bad design is bad design, no matter what your commission is.

I think you were way to forgiving to FLSUN for lying in their marketing material. If the independent media doesn't prevent corporations from lying they'll keep doing it to mislead consumers. I understand you like the unique parts to this machine but I feel your title 'This NEW Printer BLOWS the Competition Away' misleads your viewers and is overall a negative. You're recommended values are less than half the claims and yet you feel this in the right direction. I think you've gone in the wrong direction with this product review.

I've come across quite a few comments like yours, and it's clear that he's giving a fair assessment based on his own experience with the printer. As for you, I'm willing to bet you've never actually used this printer. You're just surfing the net, getting swayed by a handful of opinions, and then irrationally bashing anyone who speaks positively about it with your keyboard. It's really laughable.

I like your other video's, but in this one you are just glossing over the facts. The claims made are "not real world" to put it kindly, or "just plain lies" to put it frankly. Your title is nothing more than clickbait. At this price we expect a properly developed and practical machine, the fact that you are modifying it mid review confirms it's not the above. As noted by other comments on this channel, and other reviews, the print quality is sub standard. Time to "tell it like it is" rather than endorse a dud!

I'm more of an optimist I suppose, I see a lot of potential here. I don't accept any payment for any reviews. I made the video in this format because I wanted to answer what I thought were the most important questions, sometimes I don't hit the mark right on, but that's life. As far as your implication in your last statement, you're welcome to believe whatever you like.

These printers are just for spec sheet box ticking and statistics. The print quality and actual machine itself is basically garbage. It cannot achieve what it claims unless under extremely specific scenarios and with specific kinds of filament only. Even then, the part quality is still going to be inferior.

Shill video. Jfc this is clearly a chunk of crap. Why would you praise something so much that never gives you a viable print and even at lower speeds isn't producing something of value. Downvoted for the title alone.
@802Garage
@802Garage Ай бұрын
When did he shill? He straight up says many of the claims are not accurate. He also never says you should buy it, just that it has high speed and acceleration. This also clearly was not a comprehensive review of every single feature. The printer is clearly capable of viable prints, if you watched the video, including at high speed. He is sharing his personal experience and literally nothing he said is inaccurate, or can you refute that? Perhaps your bias is strongest in this situation. I'm not a fan of how FLSUN has handled the S1/T1 launch, but this video isn't the problem.

Heating a spool of filament over night to a specific temperature is not "drying"! All that boxed dryers are concept failures. They heat up, a bit of moisture goes from filament into the air .... and stays there! As there is not permanent air exchange from hot wet to cold dry air, there is no real dry procedure. (open the box every 5 min for a few hours). So your filament never gets real dry ....

@@riba2233 maybe some newer learned how physics work and RELEASE (not recirculate) the wet air to the outside and replace with dry cold (and dry) air - havent seen any yet within some printer reviews, but that one from FLSUN he used here doesnt look like that.
