Some say the blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice I say the darker the flesh, then the deeper the roots (Oh) I give a holla to my sisters on welfare 2Pac cares if don't nobody else care (Oh) And, uh, I know they like to beat you down a lot When you come around the block, brothers clown a lot But please don't cry, dry your eyes, never let up Forgive, but don't forget, girl, keep ya head up And when he tells you you ain't nothin', don't believe him And if he can't learn to love you, you should leave him 'Cause, sister, you don't need him And I ain't tryin' to gas you up, I just call 'em how I see 'em (You don't need him) You know what makes me unhappy? (What's that?) When brothers make babies And leave a young mother to be a pappy (Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah) And since we all came from a woman Got our name from a woman and our game from a woman (Yeah, yeah) I wonder why we take from our women Why we rape our women, do we hate our women? (Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why?) I think it's time to kill for our women Time to heal our women, be real to our women And if we don't, we'll have a race of babies That will hate the ladies that make the babies (Oh, yeah-yeah) And since a man can't make one He has no right to tell a woman when and where to create one So will the real men get up? I know you're fed up, ladies, but keep ya head up.

Music been violent since NWA, Ghetto Boys,South Central Cartel,Spice 1,Mobb Deep,Ice T, Westside Connection,gtfoh gangs been around like forever and gangsta rap started in the 80s SMH. Violents has always been around it's just social media now can show it all more than ever before. Before the Internet phenomenon you either read about it or someone will tell you. Rap reflects the times and the era,and if music can influence people then there sheep and followers, definitely not leaders and thinkers.

@@moisemcleod them names you named Majority of them are still around. And yes they promoted violence back than but compare it to now. These rappers dropping like bees when it turns cold. From the start of drill until now it has gotten worst on every aspect and just like Interscope and the Jerry Heller’s took the street rap and made it into a multi billion dollar business. While todays rappers still in the streets, people are either getting killed or rob because of the music. Plus back then they rapped about street shit SUPER vaguely. Now u can get a full confession out of a mother Fucka as long as u throw on a cold ass drill beat on it. U get the person killed, the time they did it, what they was wearing and why they did it.That’s why the feds been rounding a lot of these niggas and giving out Rico cases like food court samples. Hip-Hop has evolved, for better or worse. As valid as some of the points Melle Mel males are, he sounds like someone who doesn’t seem to understand the concept of growth. Also, let’s be real, Mel’s rap style was primitive, and KRS bodied him in a battle back when there was a schism between what was then considered old and new school rappers. Mel would get destroyed by most of the rappers on that list, with the exception of the rappers who rhyme like they count on their fingers, like Gucci.

Also, he is telling the truth because most of the youth under 28 years old I have spoken to at jobs I have had in the past two or three years or even at my most recent job and on KZbin have said they don't even listen to what is out now and that they mostly listen to 90:s and early 2000's Hip Hop and RnB music.

Hip hop was hijacked a long time ago. We devolved from hip to rap. Then from rap to trap. From trap to mumble. From mumble to drill. This is a consistent downward trajectory and it is intentional. As Professor Griff told us, it all really started when NWA was CREATED specifically to neutralize Public Enemy. Before then, hip hop wasn't so blatantly vulgar. It hasn't been the same since and it'll only continue to get worse. Hip hop, an artwork WE created, has now been flipped into a weapon of mass destruction used to destroy us.

I understand Mel 100%. Todays Hip-Hop is long gone from the days of peace, unity, and having fun. I blame the shift on the emergence of the gangsta rap genre. Once artists started rapping about gangs, drugs, sex, and violence the music went downhill from there. Today out Hip-Hop music is composed of murder/horror rap, drug dealing/drug using, and extreme sexual suggestion. Sadly, we ignore it because the beats and melodies are good.
@suave_d
@suave_d Жыл бұрын
Again, I side with Melle Mel. I believe that a lot of rap today, especially in the mainstream circuit, is horrible. I understand the concept of "getting lit" and having a good time, but speaking as somewhat of an "oldhead," I remember the era of Hip Hop when there was diversity on the airwaves -- meaning, I could hear a song that was either conscious/pro black, comical, street/gangster oriented, romantic, or just being nice with the rhymes, all on the same radio station. Every artist had his/her own sound and different skill sets that set them apart from the rest -- there was something for every listener. Nowadays, everything sounds redundant and stagnant, and there is minimal to no redemptive message in the music (not commercially) -- it's all either criminology or sex-related. Hell, I've heard so much hypersexuality within the music that I would actually be impressed if a woman DIDN'T rhyme about sex. I would much rather listen to a woman who can entertain me with her intellect, creativity, femininity, and ability to create a song that can influence a wide range of females -- not just the ratchet/hood crowd. There is so much more to a woman than what she can do in the bedroom or on the stripper pole. For those of you who say, "you have to search for quality music" -- here's my pushback -- why should I? Why do I have to "search" for a female artist who's putting out quality music, but I don't have to "search" for trash rappers like Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B, Glorilla, etc? Back in the day, I didn't have to "search" for Roxanne Shante, MC Lyte, Salt N Pepa, Queen Latifah, Bahamadia, Lauryn Hill, etc. There is clearly an industry-orchestrated imbalance. They're showcasing the lowest essence that Hip Hop has to offer, and they're giving it maximum exposure -- THAT'S why the music is so bad..

Mel is kind of full of sh He is a pioneer, but he is claiming to be Jordan, without Julius Irving level, without Wilt Chamberlain level. It's more than era, it's also skills. Can he go toe to toe with DMX, Tech N9NE, Busta Rhymes, Twista, Krayzie Bone, Brotha Lynch, Crooked I? There are tons of rappers that would cook Mel. It's that old man's ego of saying "I am the best" without actually see what can be considered best now. It's like old school runners trying to say they are better than Usain Bolt. No, you are not. You are not even close on the level. I don't even think Mel can mess with Lil Wayne stage presence and delivery, when Wayne is not leaned out of his mind. He said "Lil Wayne is not a natural rapper" in another segment of the same interview. I can name a dozen of rappers that will be better performers and lyricists than Mel, and move the crowd. Rappers from 80s always LOVE to say how amazing they are. Unless you can have stage presence like Wayne did. Let alone like DMX on stage, that's almost unachievable, I can't see you one of the best.
