Absorb only absorbs to your health pool, Energy Shield doesn't redirect absorb to your mana pool when it's active or anything. So the most important things are raising your ES skill for the dmg reduction, getting dmg reduction from gear, and getting the highest mana pool you possibly can(mana regen is nice as well but doesn't usually make the difference in a fight.) Basically absorb is only kicking in once the shield is down, at which point you're basically fucked already, so it's not of much use to an ES sorc.

Another fact about absorb is that it calculates in as a negative damage after all calculations, so it ignores armor and reductions. Your health will be set to your maximum health when it exceeds the maximum health, which is why absorb doesn't seem to do anything... however, if you cheat and manage to absorb more than the max hp integer the game will crash.

This has been done on the “immortal sorc” It utilizes max ES and high MDR and PDR to almost completely mitigate incoming dmg. Then uses dmg taken goes to mana to keep your ES up. Because if you seen, when ES drops then you are done. For example: uber mephisto’s charge bolts do 109 lightning dmg per bolt. ES will absorb 95% of that dmg, leaving only 5 dmg to come through. With MDR on viper magi for example, you will take that incoming dmg to 0. So even having -100 light res vs uber mephisto you would take no dmg to your life pool. Your mana will take 75% of the 109 dmg. So ES doesn’t just ignore res, it just comes later in the calculation. ES will absorb first, then it checks MDR/PDR, then it will check your res. So it’s still important to have some res in some cases. And even more important if you don’t have a 95% absorb ES. Also fun fact: if you are self wielding infinity, you can cast cyclone armor on it BEFORE you cast ES. Since ES and Cyclone are technically on the same level, the one that is cast later, will absorb dmg first. So part of your research institution should be to use ES with Cyclone Armor casted before es. The order will go ES > Cyclone Armor > MDR > Res. TMB 👍🏼

@@Morninglightwga DTGM doesn’t actually do a whole lot on the ES build because of so little dmg actually hits your life pool. The % is based on the final dmg that your life takes. So if you had high ES absorb and high MDR, you could be taking zero dmg. So no mana would be returned. It only seems to help a little bit, as you take bigger chunks of dmg. MAEK also helps, but not in this research institution, because the test doesn’t involve attacking.

The best form of mana regeneration is monsters not hitting you to begin with. If elemental damage zeroes out your mana, fall back on high defense, max block, and absorb. Build around: -Fortitude weapon (huge defense boost) -Eth GBane w/mal -Eth Gherkes w/shael -2/20 helm w/ 2x mal -2/18 amulet -Eth hellmouth gloves (fire absorb) -Eth Tgods (light absorb) 2x Soj -Eth Treks So what if eth, replace them when they get close to breaking. Will take a long time to break

ES does not take into account your % resist and % physical damage reduction. Your mana takes the full damage hits. But, each point of mana takes 0.75 damage thanks to Telekenisis synergy,. AFTER your mana absorbs the portion of damage this way, THEN your % resist and % physical damage reduction kicks in to reduce damage to your LIFE. THEN, your flat MDR and PDR kicks in. EDITED: Lets give an example. You have: 50% fire res, 15 magic damage reduction, with a 90% absorb ES and maxed out telekenisis. You take 200 fire damage. Your mana takes a hit of 180 * 0.75 = 135 mana. Your life takes a hit of 20, but you have 15 MDR so it becomes 5 damage to your life. Then, you have 50% res, so you take 2.5 damage. Moral of the story? Flat damage reductions like PDR and MDR are the best when it comes to ES sorcs. Resists dont matter nearly as much.

Try hustle armor the evade really helps. I found that a hybrid works better good amount of health a good amount of mana. Still using ES but maxing telekinesis

energy shield causes your absorbs to not be seen by the health pool which makes absorbs suk. your energy shield setup suks because you dont have it set up right. i dont think es can be made to act how you want it to without being a lightning sorc build, since, maybe im wrong let me know, but it seems like you are going for immortality. i think there are two different possibilities for this being one, absorbs, two, energy shield. from what your research has shown, i suspect there is not a version that combines both es and sorb. since sorb all happens after the es reduction that makes it kinda useless compared to a full sorb build, and on top of that you have to make your es worse. as for your es being built wrong for immortality, you need MDR and PDR. I'm honestly not sure if it is still this way exactly, but at least (maybe before in lod, also not sure) since the beginning of d2r, there has been some sort of bug that.. "combines" your MDR and PDR if one is exceeded before the other. thats how immortal es sorc works to my understanding. so, you need like... gladiators bane, and gerkes sanctuary. i like what you are doing with cure and insight thought... wouldnt it be ice to have an insight while still using a shield? guess that would be pretty obviously OP in this case.

@@theicemanye This was years ago, but I would do it with a smiter. It made it to where it would cost basically nothing to do ubers. It is a bit sketchy if you're not used to it though. Worth practicing it if you can edit a single player character. You can effectively use nothing of value and do ubers. Just get max resists and a decent shield, obviously crushing blow/open wounds.

@@Moonlord8941 no, it's dumb and shows a complete lack of knowledge. There are so many ways to make it better, but the fact that he is using an insight polearm is sheer stupidity. Insight can be made in a staff for +skills. % Dmg reduction is ineffective on ES build. Integer DR is much better. There are many armors better than shaft for this build. Glad Bane would probably be best, Iron Pelt would be good, even viper magi would be better. Glooms or snowclash would both be better belts. Frozen orb would alo do more damage with the skills points available
