Lesson. When fixing up a house: 1. Fully vet and hire fully qualified contractors. They are usually on the "expensive" side. 2. You need to be there every day checking their work and asking questions. 3. You need to educate yourself on what a properly completed job looks like

I’m a licensed HVAC contractor, just wanted to recommend two things. If you have to redo the return try to do a wall return with a filter inside the wall grill. Floor returns get the ductwork very dirty really fast and people just don’t change them often enough which creates choking in the system again. I don’t know why your furnace doesn’t have a overheat sensor that has been standard for quite some time. And second, the upstairs is gonna have a vastly different temperature in the summer and winter time only way to really fix It is to zone the system or to install a second system neither which is cheap but that’s really the only way to address the issue.
@katreniaclarkАй бұрын
I totally agree with the first part of this. Getting return ducting to the second floor will help quite a bit.
@I12beinuАй бұрын
Well I’m also a licensed hvac technician and your guys sound like a joke. It’s always the tech that can’t install or have sheet metal skill say it was the installer. But partly right and I guarantee the funrnace has limits, multiple, flame roll out and high heat limits sensing the exchanger. But you need to add return upstairs and that will definitely help or just repan the rest of that floor joist in the basement.. for the love of god put the door on and and combustion air… Bill did save you a couple bucks on the 454b coming but other than that pretty much a jack Rich.. good luck brother give me a shout if you need and other hvac help or questions

Dig a 24" deep trench from the back of the house to the front, all the way to the street. Pour 4" of gravel, then lay in a silt-wrapped perforated drainage pipe. Then, cover the pip in rock up to the last 4". Then, place your sod back on top. You now have a french drain that will take any hydrostatic pressure and divert it to the street where it can run off properly. If you have a negative slope, dig deeper to make sure it drops about 1/4" per foot. Honestly, you should probably dig it completely around the house. This is the cheapest, least labor intensive, can do yourself job. Rend a backhoe (call before you dig) and go to town. You can have it done in 10 hours, easy. Oh, and it'll cost 1/4 of what concrete work would be.

@zack9912000 They're not totally discontuing r410a as of Jan 1, 2025. The plan for it will be to slowly decrease 410 production to make us less reliant on it. A-2 will be in new units yes, but it's a bit of a marketing scam to tell people that 410 is going away and you can't buy any units. The Johnstone Supply that we use bought up a ton of r410a units to have cheaper alternatives to A-2

Something I learned while getting my new construction, and watching my parents get new construction growing up is to always check on the contactors each step of the way. In many states new construction is required to get a pre drywall inspection to make sure there are not issues with HVAC, electrical, or low voltage. I walked around with the pre drywall inspector on my new construction, and we still missed some low voltage (speaker wire, Ethernet, coax) issues. We did find some small electrical issues as well as a vent that has some taping issues. Inspectors are your friends, especially if YOU are paying them.
