Reminded me of my original mower bought it used for $300 and ran it for 29 years then sold it fully serviced for $250 and just fully serviced it for the customer after 3 years of use. The only issues were changing recoil ropes 2 times and replacing wheel rubbers. Good job Brucey boy.

The old Honda’s are great mowers, well designed. I tend to use a wood screw to pull seals out. Another good video Bruce, I bet you were humming “I’m forever blowing bubbles” whilst you were checking out the seal 😁

Well Al I was going to use a wod screw as well, but as it was loose I though i would just pop it out with a pick which was the wrong idea.

Nice of Claus to send professional tool. I use a business card. I actually use the appointment card from the Cardiologist who told me I shouldn’t work on lawnmowers anymore. I still work on engines and replaced my Cardiologist.

I'm just doing a rato engine on a ctc certified. Torque was 50 NM which is 38 ft lbs. I did rope in the cylinder Just looked up gcv160. Same 52 NM 38 ft lbs. I recall years back thnking 50 ft lbs for an old 5hp tecumseh snowblower engine. Snapped odd the end of the crankshaft.

Great video. Is there a link or video on how to remove the transmission assembly, I have already removed everything and now stuck trying to slide off the shaft. I did remove one pin inside the yolk area and also the round squeeze clamp and it won't slide off, engine side. Thank you

This summer I got a free Toro along side of the road said parts free. When I got around to it the top of crankshaft broke off the owner must have been trying to start it with a impact? So I drilled and tapped it to 3/8 nf. Then after carburetor cleaned it ran

Last spring I replaced a couple bearings in the clutch and shaft cleaned everything up. Ran fine all summer late summer I noticed oil on the deck and under all around the clutch area. I bought a main seal and pan gasket. My concern is due to the age does it need rings and valve seals thinking it might have enough blow by to be pushing the oil out past the seals. It does smoke when you first start it and it’s cool out but settles down once warmed up mower is a Mid 80s HR214. Do these things ever wear out rod bearings? My dad bought this mower brand new so I want to fix it properly. It’s still works great key start and all!

I would leave it I have seen so many that smoke for a bit when cold. If it smokes all the time i would do something.

Hi Bruce. I have the same seal leaking. Going to replace this weekend. How deep did you drive the new seal in? Was the top of the seal flush with the top of the case or recessed a bit? Thanks so much, great video!
@BrucesShop
@BrucesShop 4 ай бұрын
The seal was recessed a bit. It went in easy so much so I used a bit of black sealant on th top of the seal.

Bruce the lift table you have plywood on top. what was the size of it? also how far did you measure to put your carriage bolts in.
@BrucesShop
@BrucesShop Жыл бұрын
Well eveytable is different. It was 8 years ago I did mine. So start undernieth the moving platform. Make sure you don't drill into anythin important. My carriage bolts are about an inch from the edge. You can even start 1 hole ahead of time. Place the plywood on top. Cycle it trtough a few ups and downs so the pylwood doesn't hit any handeles etc. Then drill your one hole from the metal to the wood. After you have one hole drilled drill the other 3 so they will line up prefectly.

Great video Bruce. I need to do the same repair. Can you tell me what sealant product you used on the new seal, and what surfaces you applied it to? I want to do it right the first time hopefully not being a pro. Thanks in advance. Also looked like original seal was in too far. Is it supposed to go in flush with the top metal rim?
@mikeandreacordani3673
@mikeandreacordani3673 Жыл бұрын
Actually just took my hr215 apart and yes the seal was flush with top rim. Taking it out, as it got pulled apart, it fell down where the bearing is, and then it was loose and would spin. So appears when I get my new one in, seated position will be flush with top metal rim. Hopefully will be tight and leak free.
@BrucesShop

Right. That is why I used the Gasket seaker on the seal. It just felt loose. I did leave it overnight.

Bruce, I'm wondering if maybe a 3/4" or 1", 6" pipe nipple would fit over the crank to tap that seal in a little evener and easier? Good video.

I wonder how Honda prescribes getting that flywheel off... Were there holes for a puller? Or, perhaps, they have a knock off tool like tecumseh. That is pretty strange about that upper seal, seems like both the new and old one were a little loose in the crankcase.
