It boils down to: The 180 makes it's power top end and has a 'jump' when it hits its power range. A 270 has low end guts and a smooth power delivery throughout the range and yeah, it sounds much better.

My wife has a stock 2021 CB500X, and I have a 2021 MT-07 with an open Akrapovic exhaust and tune. Your review is spot on. The Honda engine is good, but doesn't have soul and there's nothing exciting about the power delivery. I freakin love every time I twist the throttle on my MT-07.

My issue with a 270 is the engineering. I like to ride thumpers, but a 180 makes much more sense than a 270. Less noise, less vibration, and you tend to get more from the engine because it isn't lugging around balances or dampers.

Does a rider need a bigger bike? I don't know, pretty happy with my Cb500f. Have you seen the new Honda 750 Hornet? Might be the natural upgrade. 🏍

@@martinrea8548 as a rider for 30 plus years, here is my answer. If you are carrying a passenger, depending on your size and passenger size and weight, you might need a bigger bike. Then, you choose a bike on two factors, types of roads. And distance you will travel. I have a 2021 Honda goldwing DCT. It's my cross country two person touring bike, my Cb500f is my twisty roads bike. I have ridden with R6, hayabusa, and so on, in the twisties, I smoke them, my bike is lighter and 200hp dosen't mean shit on twisty roads. However on the straight roads, they smoke me. Last thing, to me, it's all about comfort. Cb500f is super ergonomically great. I could ride 4 to 5 hours on back roads with zero issues. Not doing that on a liter bike.

@@jimgordon3468 Good input, thanks. I love how the light and agile the Cb500f is, especially in the twisties. The ease of cornering always puts a smile on my face. But she's no slouch on the big roads either and I ride quite comfortably at a steady 110 km p h on motorways. I do feel nervous overtaking though. All in all it's a great all rounder and I'm very happy with it, but you know how it is, you're always looking at other bikes, wondering what they'd be like. Happy riding, 🏍👍

@@martinrea8548 I had a Rebel 500 and never felt nervous passing anyone, and rode it on the interstate at 80 mph regularly. It would do 102 with me on it so 80 was not a big deal.

I love my 500. I have a cb500f. I put a straight pipe during spring and fall. It’s crazy loud and I don’t find it sounds that bad but probably not like a yamy. But I still love my 500. I can’t get into too much trouble with it and it’s still super fun to ride.

Same. I love riding my '22 CB500F. It lacks the noise and the character of the 270 parallel twins but I'll take my 70mpg to the bank :) It's an incredibly fun bike to ride and makes more than adequate power for what I need.

I’m 41. I grew up riding a little Honda atc 70 three wheeler and then a Yamaha yz 125. I still prefer the sound of a good thumper personally. Might not be the majorities favorite sound but it always takes makes back and makes me feel like a kid again. Check out clips of the Honda cb300r with a good exhaust like the yoshi, that’s my kind of sound.

Honda has just announced a 270 degree 750cc coming out next year 2023 CB 750. Should be a decent bike for beginners or people that wanna commute to save on gas.

A 750 is a good size for a daily ride. It's big enough to jockey with traffic, but light enough to be easy to handle.

@@1guyin10 supposed to get 54 mpg’s too…and have optional hard bags. My dad has the small BMW GS and it has basically that same size parallel twin and loves it. I’m thinking it’s a emissions issue why they’re all going to that engine design

Idk if a 419lb bike that makes 90hp in a twin would be decent for beginners, the 75ish hp that bikes like the MT07 and SV650 make while weighing similar is already kinda pushing it. Yeah, you can technically start on a Hayabusa if you're careful enough but you will always learn more and develop your skills more quickly on a bike with less power because they won't punish you as much for making mistakes, which you are bound to make due to lack of experience.

Honestly, even stock the CP2 with 270 sounds better than most other stock 2 cilinder bikes. But with a good slipon or even better a full exhaust system MAN those things can growl. Sounds vtwin-esque to me in the good way.

There is an old ad slogan from the 60's "You meet the nicest people on a Honda". Honda's 471 cc 180 crank fits the bill, hehehe, it's a nice friendly engine and works brilliantly for my 2019 cb500x for long distance back road touring with 70 mpg and a 300 mile range. I love the sound of it and the cp2 engine sounds good too but I pretty much like everything with 2 wheels and a internal combustion engine :)

That CBR500R exhaust sounds very much like my 1982 CM200T ... and that's not a compliment. Thumpers sound meaner. If you want rock 'n roll, get an old Bonnie (or a W800 ?? ) with a 360-degree crank. But yeah I can understand why 270s are where it's at today.
@bloodspartan300
@bloodspartan300 Жыл бұрын
Not to knock what your saying because its true about the crank differences but the differences are small when the displacements are similar... this was a bad analysis because most of the power you were feeling was the extra displacement not the crankshaft design.

I actually think I prefer the 180 sound, but triples are definitely my favorite. 180 degree engines definitely don't sound good on cruisers though.

I absolutely love torque. I want wheelies. I want hard acceleration. I want to be an absolute hooligan. The MT07 gives me just that. Something with a 180 firing order wants to be revved out. They’re powerful up top. Butttt they sound like complete dog shit. And lack that torquey fun supermoto feel. My FZ reminds me of a 450 dirt bike. A parallel twin…. reminds me I don’t want to ride it. The sound alone is absolutely awful.

Anyone watching this video. Don't believe anything he says, don't let it sway you from buying a Honda. He's comparing a 700 cc to a 500c. And the 700 is modified. It's the stupidest comparison you could make. Apparently these guys do not understand that. Might as well compare a Grom to a Hayabusa. DUH!!!

Stfu clown. He explains the differences very well. The Honda CB500 500 is faster than the 689 in the MT. An R6 with a 600 is faster than a 689 MT. They just make power and torque differently. It’s fine to compare the 500 and 689. I’ll take the 689 alllll daaaay long. It’s so good.

He’s right, everyone knew just from the thumbnail that the video was only about 180 vs 270 crank. He’s just pitching CP2, which anyway sounds bland AF until you mod the exhaust.
