I'd never heard Portuguese spoken prior to hearing Dan in this video a few weeks ago. Beautiful language & this song is deeply personal to Dan because he battled depression around that time, but won his battle whereas some do not. This song hits you in the feels for sure & Dan's version is especially emotionally charged. Glad to see someone react to that video because it's deserving of the attention.

Dan fought depression for 2 years and won. Music helped him see how necessary life and people are and how important he is to them. May everyone affected by this disease seek help, believe in themselves and be able to get out of this like our Dan did. Tks ❤

Dan suffered from depression, anxiety and suicidal thoughts himself . He has said that his last and worst period of depression was in 2016/2017, so very close in time to this video. Several of his videos promote awareness of depression- he did Heaven Can Wait by Gamma Ray for Yellow September.

Dan has said in the past that he suffered from depression so I think this song has a very deep meaning for him. This performance from him is just so beautiful and inspiring, it’s one that I listen to often and brings a feeling of hope every time. He is going to be recording a “Manowar” album of his favourite songs from them when he reaches his goal of one million subscribers. I really am looking forward to hearing it. Many thanks for your empathetic reaction, it’s much appreciated my friend. 🎶🔥🔥🔥🎶

I get tears every time I watch this because when people share, it is one of the best ways to increase the facts about mental illness. Just doing what you did, is so needed and counts. Like Dan, I too have a mental illness, have gone to the darkest place but hope and seeking help, and especially my Faith took me to the place where I know there is ALWAYS lightness in the dark and my illness does not define me or YOU. I share my story completely without embarrassment. Just know if you are reading this, though it is not an easy road, a beautiful life awaits WHICH YOU CAN HAVE AND DESERVE..

The sad thing is that Manowar is one of the most controversial metal bands but not because they did anything bad or problematic there is just this overwhelming negativity towards them in the metal community. I've never understood it. Hearing Eric Adams sing opera and that song being Nessun Dorma, which is a three tenors level of song makes me wonder how anyone criticises Eric. As a singer myself, the degree of talent that man has, his showmanship, his incredible vocal skills, I honestly feel that he deserves to be ranked in the best metal vocalists of our times. Power metal has always been viewed as cheesy, as if that makes something inherently bad. Manowar is the kind of music you blast when having a shit day and want to feel uplifted. Also love the German version of this song that Eric Adams performed "Herz Aus Stahl". I've been a power metal fan since I found metal. Bands like Dream Evil and Blind Guardian that tell these sword and sorcery stories that I grew up with in books and television. The awesome Halford inspired sound of the Canadian band Three Inches of Blood. The absolute powerhouse that was Matt Barlow when he fronted Iced Earth. For no good reason I can determine power metal is maligned by so many. Almost like a jocks and dnd nerds kind of energy. It's deeply silly.

When I climbed out I had lost a lot. But I was still alive and still had hope. The simple fact that I got my love for music back several months ago, gives me hope that I will find other things that I left behind. But I will always thanked Mr Vasc for doing amazing Grace. Dan Vasc "Heart of Steel" -- MANOWAR cover Posted March 9, 2016 Dan posted this song less than two weeks away from being eight years ago (today is February 28, 2024). Dan was born October 10, 1989. He would have been 26 years old when he posted this. I know he doesn't really look like 26 there. However, in comparison with all the other videos I've seen of his even younger days (before he even had that elemental orange studio background) it would seem that he really was 26 when he both sang the song and posted the video. You asked about current depression world-statistics. Those are extremely hard to find. I did some digging, and here's what I came up with... - - - - - - - - - - INTRO (also found in whatever language you need, in the Transcript) (spoken in Brazilian Portuguese) -- Think about four random friends. Of the five of you, it's very likely that one has or had depression at some point of life. Depression is an ill ravaging 20% of the world population today. Every year, nearly 21 million people lose their battles against sorrow, and try to take their own lives. Of those 21 million, 1 million mange to do it...every year. When you're done watching this video, probably 10 people will have taken their own lives. This cover is to honor those who fight this devastating evil (that is so overwhelming) against crushing pain and suffering, long day after long day. They are true warriors, bone with a heart of steel. (Then the song begins.) - - - - - - - - - - For updates on those figures, about the best place I found (that is at least the easiest to understand), has been updated as of January 30, 2023. The site is called "The Zebra" and the information is in their resources/research/mental-health-statistics/ area. - - - - - - - - - - The numbers are not as high as Dan had found before he posted the song. There may have been some confusion about which numbers are which. For example, in the statement mentioned above, the first statement (in the key statistics + insights section) says that 1-in-5 AMERICANS suffers from a mental illness. (That's 20%) Then when you read through other things on the key statistics + insights list (and again, this page is the LEAST confusing of all the ones I found), another source says that about 1 in 4 AMERICAN adults suffers from a diagnosable mental disorder in a given year, and one in 10 will suffer from a depressive illness, such as major depression or bipolar disorder (Johns Hopkins). (That's 25%) A couple of points further on, and it says that 41 percent of AMERICANS dealt with an untreated mental illness. (That's 41% -- what happened to the 20% of AMERICANS who suffer from a mental illness...it didn't say were treated for or if they were untreated, in THAT statement). The next statistic states, that 10.7% of the WORLD suffers from some form of mental illness. If any of the above statements (and there are others, that all vary) are "actual," then AMERICA (and does that mean North America, Central America, and South America together, or is it just meaning the U.S. ???) would evidently have the largest percentage of mental illness incidents--no matter how you add everything up. Again...the other 10-12 reports I found, are even WORSE to try to understand, and a huge mish-mash of technical "facts" vs. "... but then there are..." types of statements, that intersperse everything else. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - As I went forward, watching the reaction, and Dan screamed the word "STEEL," and you asked what note it was, I paused, and went to the virtual piano page I use a lot, for this purpose. That was F#5 -- both times! Even the final time (last note) is A4, which is in the high alto or low soprano range. 😀
@BemusingBill10 ай бұрын
Thank you, my friend for your research into this. I can see why it's confusing and I wonder about all that don't find help and are not diagnosed that slips through. It just seems to me that so many suffer around me that perhaps the numbers are a lot higher. Also, I appreciate you finding that note. F#5!!!! Wow! A4!!!! Incredible! ❤️

I believe this vid is from about 8 years ago. You can hear the future Dan in this. Some have asked for him to redo this cover. I hope he doesn't. This is amazing just the way it is. I am a survivor of depression so deep that I had decided I couldn't handle emotional and physical pain any longer. But God showed me the life my daughter would have. Showed me what my children would feel. The pain and fear they would experience about broke my heart. I couldn't do that to them. I later had a discussion with my daughter about all of this. Her youth pastor was in our home when I had this discussion with her. I made a a promise that evening with her and God that no matter how bad things got that I would never take my own life. I wear a ring on my pinkie as a reminder of that promise. It is because of God and my kids that I am here today. This all took place in 1995/96 after a motor vehicle accident. I pray if you're going through depression please, please talk to someone. I'm so glad that I had a support system in place after that. If I get even a hint of what happened before I talk to them.
