Well, this sucks! While much of the media attention is focused on the great joy the final has brought to the nation of South Africa, this episode gives you a peak into the depths of despair the great little nation of New Zealand has been plunged into after the All Blacks agonising defeat to the World Champion Springboks. I just vomited in my mouth a little bit.Make sure you tune in next week to watch the second annual 2CGDs on the Distracted Sports channel.Grab a beer and cry along with us or alternatively laugh in our faces and enjoy

It's a miscomception to say this is how Springboks play all the time. We scored more tries than Ireland and France in our games against them who are apparently the most attacking teams in the world. The real problem is other teams don't want to tackle. South Africans LOVE tackling, it's the unpleasant least flashy part of the game that other teams maybe need to start embracing more

In this match bokke crossed the line twice (held up first time, knocked on second), ABs crossed the line three times for one try. Hard to say SA don't play attacking rugby off the back of that stat

Truth. Tackling is a major part of the Boks defensive strategy which is a major part of their overall game strategy, while also having brought an expansive element to their game. Strategically, they got it right for the most part. Finals rugby is not about tries. The All Blacks may rue their decisions to go for the corner instead of taking the points on offer.

The drop goal attempts served two purposes - firstly, if successful, we build the score by 3-point increments; and secondly, if missed, it kept the ball down the right end of the field and made NZ play from inside their own 22 - Boks trusted their defence to stop any attacking forays.

Also encouraged NZ to clear into touch rather than keeping the ball in play rather and giving Willemse more opportunities to go for goal. Considering the Springboks love for set piece, and desire to slow the pace of the game down, I reckon it was a pretty big brain tactic..

For many years we've watched you being an absolute warrior on the field and a humble gent off it. You've epitomised All Black rugby. And you had impossibly huge boots to fill when you took over from Richie. Remember that one moment doesn't define your career and won't define your legacy - you've done so much more than just that. Head to head contact happens. Because heads are mostly level. There was only one direct tackle to the head in the World Cup. Sam Cane. High tackles like that just don’t happen by accident. I thought Frizzell was lucky to only get a yellow, it looked very cynical, especially after its general knowledge that the Boks were down 1 hooker - also it was a neckroll - totally illegal on its own merit. If there was a way to curtail the Boks scrum, it would be to take out their specialist hooker. Call me a cynic.....Sam Cane was unlucky for me, the intention was not to make head contact. Kolisi was unlucky to get even a yellow for me. The initial contact was clearly on the shoulder. No complaints with Kolbe, but I have seen those NOT given too in this tournement. We must remember the conditions were not condusive to running rugby. The biggest difference between the 2 teams for me is that the Boks took their chances and the ABs did not.

Man, seeing you guys so heartbroken really does put a damper on my victory celebrations. Ive got some personal insights and takeaways from this tournament. For 2 years, while Rassie was on the world rugby shit list, we had so many 50/50 calls go against us, and many missed calls as well, and it usually benefitted the teams we were playing against. We had some tough, close losses that we blamed (unfairly, in hindsight) on poor calls. But our management took a long hard look at how to mitigate that, how to play the ref and show the right pictures and get the calls we want. We changed the way we dealt with refs, with world rugby, and we even changed the way we play the game, to an extent. I think those experiences prepared us well for this world cup, and i think that shows in the results. But, in that period, we SA fans were extremely vocal about our disapproval, and rugby fans around the world gave us a really hard time about it. Now that the shoe is on the other foot, i can see where they were coming from. And ive made a vow to try very very hard not to bitch about the ref ever again. I think its important to be able to appreciate and enjoy the game, even if your team loses. Thats not easy. Its something that ive always admired in others, and i think you two have managed that well over the years (Mark more so than Tony 😂) and its also something that ive vowed to try to do going forward. Much respect to the ABs, it was a hell of a game. I look forward to the grudge match that i know is coming next year in The Rugby Championship 🍻

People talking about is SA's style boing and bad for Rugby. Not at all. How can you watch any of the last three games of SA and thik it's boring? Also, in MMA they say 'styles make fights' - same for Rugby, it keeps things interesting. League is exciting for the first few games. you watch and then it all feels very similar. To me, at least

Barns did not apologize.. he said "sorry, i did not see the replay" meaning he was trying to get savea's attention saying... "sorry/ excuse me... i did not see the replay" and then he went on to say from his perspective, "you did not clear the tackle enough for me" paraphrasing. English as we know is a horrible language since the same words and phrases means different things, depending on the circumstances.

The referee didn't apologize for the call watch it back. Ardie pointed to the screen and said the Boks didn't release the ref replied "sorry mate I didn't see the replay, I thought you stayed on him, didn't come off it enough" and all the commentators started shouting and screaming without listening to what is said. The ref literally said he didn't see the replay then explained why he gave the penalty. Where is the so called apology for a wrong decision?

33:30 - that dude criticising how the Boks play only one boring way needs to go back & rewatch the France-SA quarter final. That was end to end action from start to finish, 7 tries in total, a real adrenaline rush. Or rewatch that Twickenham game versus NZ prior to RWC, definitely not boring mate. Or the game in Australia during the most recent Rugby Championship is another good example. The Boks are perfectly capable of different styles of Rugby. Sometimes you have to adapt, adjust, improvise etc depending on playing conditions (RWC final was very wet so was never going to be a high scoring affair), opposition's game plan, unplanned incidents on the day such as player injuries, red or yellow cards etc. But I'm sorry, anyone who thinks that QF game versus France was boring because of the way the Boks played, well then i don't know what to say other than maybe you need to find a different sport to watch.

SA don’t always play like that Tony, it depends on the conditions a circumstances. Watching the ABs (who also have a talented attacking back line) dropping the ball, wouldn’t have been lost on the players or the coaches.

I know right. Would've thought the Twicks game would've shown that. We were running the ball that game, it wasn't all mauling tries ect. You have to play to the conditions, field in front of you and does feel ABs fell into an all too familiar trap again where that is concerned and no, not a Foster related issue, its been part of the ABs for decades now.

The talk about South Africans playing 'negative' rugby isn't fair. Fra & Ire scored 30 tries, RSA 27. Fra had 630 runs, Ire had 688 runs, RSA 666 runs. No one complains about Ireland and France being boring and negative even though they're largely the same. NZ are literally the only team in the world that play it the way Tony is asking us to play. Entertainment is subjective. Of the last 11 games between ABs and SA, its 5-5-1 with a 15ish point difference favouring South Africa.I love a good scrumming game much more than watching Will Jordan run in a dozen tries on Italy. NZ also had the most cards in the tournament, should we all emulate that too? Interesting side note though how a lot of the conversation isn't about how poor NZ's discipline, but rather focused on changing the laws of the game to suit their outcomes better (not a criticism of Mark or Tony this one). It's quite a laugh to be honest.

What a great World Cup in the end! I know you’ll be gutted guys but did you think they’d win when it started? Kiwis should be happy ABs improved so much and only had one hard game before the final. I am a bit 😟 over the griping by Kiwis, we’ve got so bad at losing it’s embarrassing. Maybe a result of so much winning ☺️ Frizell was a definite yellow, apparently called a judo roll, and it’s really dangerous and injured a key player. We don’t know if it’s intentional, I do know Frizell has a known bad temper and violent streak. Barnes did not say sorry to Ardie for the penalty, he simply said he didn’t see the replay but that he did not see a release from Ardie. I didn’t either. Canes red card was an easy red, he’s upright and the tackle was never legal. Cane was never our best 7, he was never the right call for the captain, he just doesn’t have the right attitude for me. Kolisi could easily have been a penalty, he was bent and wrapped, nowhere near a red. ABs had opportunities and didn’t play that well IMO, kicking was dire, too many turnovers won by SA and obviously the red and yellow didn’t help. SA also had opportunities for tries they didn’t get. This isn’t the first tight final! I think the 2015 final spoilt us!! I was still disappointed not to see France there, but very happy for South Africa 🇿🇦 really one of the best teams we’ve seen and a cracking coaching team for sure, out of this world. Cheers for all the chat guys 👍🏾

Something to keep in mind is that not every team has the skill level of the ABs to play running rugby with ball in hand and use that as their strength or key to victory. The Springboks are good at containing, scrummaging, defending, kicking and then displaying the odd moment of brilliance from the backs. That is what they do and that is how they win games. They play to their strengths, as any team should. There are different styles of play around the world and that is what makes the game interesting. The game would lose some richness and texture if every team played the same way.

I suspect the ABs figured out SAs line-out calls & knew when to jump. Watch as the SA jumpers shift around while the ABs keep their positions & simply go up & steal the ball. The ease & frequency with which they did this suggests the problem was not only with Fourie. He was massive otherwise. P.S. SA attempting drop goals was not a panic. P.P.S. SA played 3 games in which they found a way to conquer the opposition, using defence as a form of attack. Suddenly they are branded as a team playing negative rugby. People have short memories. Rassie got the better of the whole lot & now they have him stuck in their heads. Rassie 10. The rest 0, & comedy fodder for South Africans. Love your channel, Two Cents. The ABs will always be our comrades. Big respect.

If Frizzell had launched off the top rope with a WWE move some people would say he just slipped. “Frizzell had no intention of going anyone near it.” If he had no intention of going near it, he would not have ended near it. He drops is weight and elbow on it. Hard to square. “His eyes were no where near it.” False, he sights the leg before dropping on it. “His leg was exposed.” What is the player doing dropping on a players hind legs, surely the totally wrong side of the ruck. It’s just amazing how people see the clear tactical implications: nullifying the 7-1 split. Player drops on leg. Player goes off with leg injury. But are unable to draw the clear line of intention through these dots.

Tony, without realizing it, hits the nail on the head as to why so many Kiwi's are railing against Tom Foley, the TMO. The current incarnation, that gives the TMO the ability to interrupt the on-field officials for any and all possible infringements completely goes against the open, flowing, continuous front-foot play that we have come to associate rugby with. That style of play is what all New Zealanders associate with rugby at their core. Constant interruption irritates our being at it's core. It's why NZ'ers are leading the charge for eliminating rest breaks and false "injuries" that stop play and bust momentum. "Unconcious Bias" was the buzzword earlier in the RWC and now we are seeing it from Kiwis that naturally want an unbroken free flowing game of ball-in-hand Rugby. I count myself as one of those too. So I'm not just here to stir the pot, but try to understand why so many people are going off online. It's not all just the hurt of losing, it's that they also feel World Rugby is attacking and breaking the game they love.

I remember all the games we lost and when we got knocked out it was like I lost interest in the game. The hardest one was against England in 2003 as we sent a seriously weak team to the WC. The one I thought we would do well in 2011 the Aussies nailed us and the ref just ignored hands in the ruck. 2015 against Japan was a nightmare and at least we dominated the AB first half that year but they were much better than us and nailed us the second half. I also remember Tim Horan cut us up in 1999 and Larkham hit the miracle drop goal.
