I needed to hear this: You are worth creating for yourself. Often I look at time spent doing shop furniture or organization as "wasted time" and slap something "good enough" together when everything inside of me screams to take more time and make it nice, even if it's just a sandpaper org bin, or cart for my spindle sander. Thanks for the validation and continued encouragement!

As a hobby woodworker who started my craft in Philly, that opening made me super nostalgic. Made my fist workbench with hand tools on a rickety 2nd floor deck in Manayunk. Scenery and tooling has changed, but those were awesome times. New to the channel and subscribed almost immediately. Keep coming at the haters with the coffee mug

I am so glad I stumbled upon this video of yours. I have been planning some large rolling cabinets and I came up with that exact same joinery you just used in that door. Except in planning I doubted myself and trashed that version. If it's good enough for you then I assume I was on the right track because that method of joinery solved a bunch of problems for me.

Erik, great video. I love the story telling. Getting a feel for your neighbourhood really pulled me in, especially the coffee shop. The comment on why we chose woodworking 🔥, so true and beautifully coined. I’d be very interested in hearing your rationale for selecting, I think you called it a ‘sun-tenon’. Video as an art form, please keep it coming. Ken Myerscough, Southport,UK.
@ENCurtis Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the kind words, Ken. I really appreciate it. More will come, for sure. As for the stub tenon, that’s an old bit of joinery that was then reinforced with dominoes for added strength. Should hold up quite well for a couple hundred years!

That's a beautiful door, and I get the reasoning for why you'd want to replace the boring gray steel door. However, you might want to check your local fire/building codes, especially since you're in a (presumedly) leased industrial space. It would suck if something happened and the insurance company turned down your claim because of it.

That is one beautiful door! I can't find where in the video you made the "river". When you drew it up at the beginning, I was thinking it would be epoxy, but in the brief look we get after you hang it, it appears to be wood. Did you put a groove down each live edge and glue a piece of wood in there? I was hoping for more "glamor" shots and a detailed look of the finished project at the end of the video.
@ENCurtis Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes, just a simple piece of wood to span the gap. You saw me route out the groove for it but I admit I did not show the assembly.

Can I make a suggestion for your videos? Can you say what type of wood that you used and why? Just a suggestion.. You mention the colors of stains and everything in between, but not what type of wood grain and why it was used.. Because, for example, if you love wood, why would you stain poplar a walnut color, right? this is for other people.. I don't think that you would ever do this, but for those that are new to woodworking and the industrial arts.. Also, because I grew up learning about how some certain types of wood could give you a horrible skin or lung reaction if dealing with their particles during a sanding process.. Sorry, went off down a rabbit hole with that one.. Thank you
