This one punished me, but it was worth it - Woodturning a Brigalow Bowl

Brigalow is one of the first timbers I used to make bowls out of when I started woodturning. A member of the Acacia family of trees, it comes from the arid regions of Western New South Wales and Queensland. It is hard on the tools as you can see from the opening clip. I own two chainsaws and usually the smaller of the two is more than capable of cutting the blocks so they can be put on the lathe. When cutting this block in half I saw sparks coming off the chain as I was cutting through. Once on the lathe the block continued to put up a fight. There were a number of cracks in the wood that I filled with CA glue and wood shavings. Sanded to 800 grit and finished with friction polish. This bowl is to be a gift for a couple moving to the town of Brigalow.
