Fantastic vid as always Alex and something w the wrists I have actually been thinking about 🤙🏼been fighting over swing for 25+ yrs but am curious how important or aware you are of keeping left arm straight from backswing thru impact, especially during round it's hard for me to maintain or monitor swing

What's in the bag, brah? Like the towel drill, I'll break that out as my practice swing next Sunday 😜,. Along with my throwing the ball feel hehhehe. Can't be any worse than the blokes teeing the three wood up three inches and neutron bomb slicing into the parallel tee box LoL.

The ideal wrist action is for the right wrist to go from maxed out extension / to being pulled straight | in line with the forearm WHILE THE BALL IS COMPRESSING ON THE FACE OF THE CLUB. Why? That 45° change in angle of the wrists moves the club head mass on the end of a 45 inch driver shaft several feet in 1/100th of a second. The increases velocity of the club head mass which exponentially increases F = 1/2 (Mass x Velocity^2) striking force. A gimmick like the towel is no substitute for actually understanding the cause and effect of the bio-mechanics and the physics. 1) The feet left flat on the ground limit hip rotation to 45° closed in the backswing when back foot is squared and 45° open in the downswing. 2) The action of keeping the right arm bent at the elbow and elbow tucked into the body is a what gives the right arm the mechanical leverage to control how fast the hands fly towards the target WHEN HIP ROTATION SLOWED DOWN BY KEEPING BACK FOOT DOWN. In terms of bio-mechanics and timing the ideal situation is that the hip turn stops at 45° open constrained by back foot staying grounded just as hands drop just past the right hip. That abruptly slows the hands just as the club shaft reaches horizontal and GRAVITY (the most constant force on the planet) is acting to pull the club head mass down and the momentum of the dropping of the arm using SIDE BEND is moving it forward. The physics at this point of the swing is like riding in a car at 100 kph and hitting a the brakes not wearing a seat belt but instead of the noggin flying though the windscreen the club head whips down around the hands - but only of the grip on the club is relaxed enough to let the wrists freely hinge in reaction to the club force. What will happen if the grip is relaxed enough and the right arm is bend with the mechanical leverage keep hand and hip movement in sync is seen in your swing - the extension of the right wrist gets pulled out straight by the club force, the club head gets an additional burst of acceleration, and the face angle of the club changes nearly 45° in the last foot or so before impact striking the ball ideally inside of center > + relative to ball-target line. Since it take some time for ball to compress and release off the face the face must be slightly open at impact to be square to target when if flies off. So why doesn’t that occur ideally in the swing of most recreational golfers? My observation is that they do not know to execute the SIDE BEND action as shoulders swing back parallel to the swing line = or understand how the physics of accelerating the club around the hands works, namely that the hand need to “put on the brakes” to whip the club head through the ball with the maximum velocity the laws of physics allow. Do a video showing a swing with and without side bend and you will see that without side bend the right arm does not fold into the body to create the mechanical leverage to keep the club force from pulling the right arm straight too soon. When the right arm straightens too soon the hands race too far ahead of the hips which results in the club force causing the right wrist to ‘flip’ from extension / to flexion \ instead of just being pulled straight in-line with the forearm. It is not a conscious flipping action by the golfer - the club force is too great for that - it is the lack of control of the hand because the right arm can’t get positioned correctly without SIDE BEND! Teach a noob how to side bend and where their hands should be relative to their right hip at impact and 90% of their swing faults disappear! The remaining 10% is the timing of when the back heal is lifted to release the hips to continue moving. If the the heel is not lifted at all the club force will whip the club to the left around the body on a low swing plane and can even snap the head off the club at the hosel (been there, done that a dozen times perfecting heel release timing). If the heel is released too soon hips and hands will be to far forward, hands will push butt of club to target, face will open and ball will slice. Really good ball strikers who have superior flexibility keep their back heel down or barely off the ground until the club has pulled the right arm straight (shifting axis of swing plane to right shoulder joint) and club momentum has pulled shoulders and hips square to the target. Those with less flexibility (to side bend like a pretzel) will need to lift the back heel up more to avoid steering the club head mass off the path it was started on in the downswing and being pulled off balance in the finish. Skip the towel people, just learn to side bend and keep the hands in sync with the hip turn through impact by timing the release of the back foot.
