Just popped in to say this is the single best, and possibly only, youtube tip I've ever used that's had such a dramatic impact on my swing. It started by fixing my over-the-top driver issue. I knew I wasn't shallowing it, I had lessons pointing it out, but this drill is the only thing to actually correct it. I then applied it to my 3-wood and 3H which I THOUGHT I hit well but this ramped up the consistency. THEN I applied it down the irons and the consistency and compression improvements have been crazy good. It feels like I unlocked a little secret no one else knew because none of the instructors I tried ever fixed my swing plane issues like this single little drill. I was also compounding my issues by doing the elbow in and down thing which just jammed me up and forced me to slow my swing down to compensate. Awesome stuff.

Alex I watched this tip yesterday and as a lifelong slicer I did some of these swings at home and then headed out to my usual course. It was absolutely amazing, finally something that really worked! I was swinging easier and finally coming down in the slot and it changed everything. Drives were actually hitting the fairway and distance increased thus I knocked 7 strokes off of my 9 hole average. What a game changer..Thank you so much!!!

I just ran across this, and I love this advice! I do the other thing to shallow that you speak of throwing the club down behind you and it's effective most of the time ... but I just tried this swing feel combined with what I used to do. Bookmarking this one. I've been trying to get shallower for a few years and struggling. Does it make sense that it's easier to achieve with shorter clubs vs. longer? That's the experience I've had. I feel like the longer clubs are really dragging hard and have trouble hitting solid.

Awesomeness. There are so many ways to try and explain the same thing in golf. The swing is endlessly complicated yet deceptively simple. so if you set up to the ball and visualize that the club head moves in a clockwise rotation from take away to impact and let the hands lead the way should be the sensation correct?

Thanks Alex I always had a steep downswing and stood up at impact. When I tried to stay down I would chunk it.So thinking I had to turn more I instead started to spin out.All that did was give me lower back pain and I almost gave the game up.So I'm hoping your drill is the answer for me.

I recently started doing this with my driver. My primary focus at the top of my swing is to close the club face as much as I have ever closed it. That really sets off a chain reaction where my body rotates through the shot way more. It’s a great feeling and my driving accuracy has increase dramatically. I am having one major problem though. When I do this with my irons, I am not hitting all of my irons off the bottom of the club. I am thinning all my shots. Do you have any recommendations on how to fix this? Any help is appreciated! Thank you!

I've had the same issue but in reverse. My irons and pitching was awesome for a beginner I was told.. But the issue was because I was lining up to my drive shots almost the same as I did the irons. Wrong!! I learned they are totally different movements/ swing patterns. Haha

It might be a stupid question but why don't we just swing shallow in our backswing rather than swinging on a high plain then dropping the club? Can we not just swing back on shallow plain and down in the same plain?

Alex, I’m confused. When I shallow it as you demonstrate it feels really scary as it feels like the opposite of what you’ve been teaching me (blade tumbling over). Clubface comes down open initially. I know the blade has to tumble over late but it feels to me like my hands aren’t “fast enough”…Confused of Pike Fold 🙂

3 of the last 4 rounds I played were a mess I couldn’t get my shit together, I kept singing worm burners , or just plain destroying the right side of the course. After watching this video and implementing in on the range, I was able to drive straight with a slight fade and getting yardage…something that is usually robbed from me due to a slice.Any way thanks, not perfect but definitely better!
