Hey I'm after is a device that can make notes and highlight and annotate on Word docs or pdf docs. Does remarkable work with word? Or only pdf? Can I sync with one drive so it automatically syncs any info? Is there a calendar on the device so I can make notes on that day and future days? Is this a remarkable product or maybe another brand?

This is exactly like paper but without the chaos of paper. Been using my Remarkable 2 for about 3 weeks. You have like 90 days to try it out and if you don't like it you can return it. Make sure to read the policy as I knew almost immediately that I was going to keep mine so the fact that I had like 90 days to try it became a non-factor. Unlike paper you can cut and past from one spot in a document to another, or even to another document. You can reorder your pages in any notebook. There is a folder structure that you can use to organize. I have a personal and work folders at the top. Then under work folder I have a simple project list, just names the projects I am working on, no details. But in the work folder I have a subfolder called Projects-Big Tasks. In that folder I have a notebook for each of the projects I am working on. I keep all my status meeting notes on a separte page titled with the date. If I want to make a separate notebook for brainstorming ideas or maybe diagrams for that project I do it. And if I want another document, say I import some PDFs that are related to the project, then I make a subfolder for that project and move all related notebooks and PDFs to that subfolder. You can't search a document as it is your handwriting. You can put tags on a document so you can search on tags, but I so far haven't found a way or need to do that as the folder system provides the organization I need. And for action items, I simply review my notes after the meeting and cut and paste all action items to my todo list. On my todo list I have a top/first page of items I plan on working on today. Then each subsequent page is a list of todo items for a given project. Since one of the more recent software updates the user now has the choice of how they want to continue writing. You can simply add a new page to the notebook which has been around from day one, but now you can also simply swipe up to continue a page. So I do the latter when adding more tasks for a given project and only use new pages when adding todo items of a new project. And you can keep a record of what you have completed by simply selecting a portion of your todo list and moving it to the bottom of your list below a title I call completed. This way if you are asked for a status report or need to explain what was completed it is right there. I like doing that vs deleting completed tasks. There is quicksheets. Think post-its, or scratch pad. From anywhere in your folder structure you can call up this special notebook, that is there from the getgo. And you can then add pages, lengthen pages, etc. I use it for phone calls or impromptu tasks. Names, network info that I need to remember as I sift through a troubleshooting scenario. When done, I simple delete that page, just as I would toss that scratch pad or post-it. And if I don't have my Remarkable with me, I can simply pull up the Remarkable app on my android phone and pull up notebook or PDF for a quick reference. I don't edit with the app, it is just a quick way for me to bring up info, like a corridor number on a floor plan so I can convey the info over the phone to the caller. LOVE IT, LOVE IT:)!

​@@vihangatckman, you don't need a last generation i9 with a titan rtx to write notes into a file 😂 I have the remarkable 2 tablet, it's running absolutely nice, absolutely no lag. The samsung s9 tab is good for another use case For my personal use, the remarkable 2 is better because i only need a tablet to write note, it's for work, i don't plan to play games or watch videos on it and the paper feel is better on the remarkable 2.

I had to complete a training for my license and had to read a bunch of articles for it. It took me back to my school days. I have a tablet but i do not like effect it has on my eyes. Like i can concentrate while reading on my phone or tablet but seriously, my eyes always feel like crap after it. So i thought about this device. K was thinking about the new kindle and i will check that out as well but this sounds great too.

Thank you for this! I have a few questions: when you've converted your handwriting to text and it's a file on its own (question #1): is it a file on its own or is it a page that's part of a notebook? Question #2: when it's synced via the cloud to your desktop, are you able to access, edit, and copy + paste the text from your desktop app and move it to other apps (e.g. Microsoft Word or Google Docs)? A nice plug for Remarkable. You forgot to mention the staggering price for the basic poorly specced device then add on the price for the pen and the cover. You also forgot to mention the laggy os with the slow scrolling, no backlight, no colour, no SD card expansion and of course very poor compatibility with third party apps. And of course, the virtually non-existent customer customer support.

I wouldn't mind the lack of a backlight. I mean they could have added something like a very minor low power light that's just strong enough to be readable in the dark, but that would also obviously eat power fast, and that would hurt their advertising, it's something most companies focus on too much, because they want to advertise long battery life but use a lot of gimmicks to stretch it. I do find the lagginess of using UI elements to be an issue, but e-ink is always going to be laggy due to the nature of how the display functions. That's not a problem if you're just reading, but if you need a lot of functions like rotating, dragging and dropping, it will seem laggy for the task. Obviously you won't get color with an e-ink display. No SD expansion is definitely a problem though, especially considering with the speed of the device, even the slowest SD cards would be more than enough for accessing data. They of course do this as a gimmick to artificially limit you, because they want people to pay the monthly fee for their cloud service, which is just predatory. That's the problem with devices in general today, everyone wants a subscription and to limit devices in dumb ways. That kind of behavior is what makes these devices soo unpopular. The real truth though is these devices are dirt cheap to make, so they don't really want to make them popular, because if they're soo affordable that everyone can afford one on a whim, then they not only invite competition, they also essentially run out of customers, while having to go through the logistics of producing billions of them. They'll make more money, but when you look at it as money in vs profit, these small scale productions are far more profitable for the least amount of effort.....and that's a virus that has infected corporate products for a long time now. They could honestly release these for $30 a pop and still make profit. But then they'd have to produce +10x as many for the same profit.

You're all probably gonna think I'm crazy but I bought a Tab s8 a while back and I put a specific paperfeel screen protector on it. I've been using it to take notes for quite some time now and I got used to it and now I really like it. I can turn on either focus mode or do not disturb mode but to be honest I don't always need to be in distraction free mode. The note app I use almost replicates the Remarkable experience perfectly with nearly every feature. But I do like that I can add color or color highlights to my notes on my tab s8. But to be fair I gave the Remarkable a shot. To be honest I just didn't feel like I was using it any differently than my Tab s8. It just seemed like I was carrying another device around but doing the same thing and spending another $350. So I ended up sending it back. I see the appeal for some but it just not needed for my use case.

Thanks for an excellent review. One thing I would have prefered though is a locked focus. Using autofocus with a shallow depth of field makes the image constantly go in and out of focus, which is tiresome to watch. Otherwise good video!

Hey Julien! Seems there's no way to export highlights to Readwise which I'd love to have :( And Connect is only if you want to use their cloud service. So if you use other ones like Google Drive, you won't need it.

@tonynasaofficial as I understand it, yes, it comes with all sorts of Graphing (grid) paper and provided your handwriting isn't so awful that it could be a foreign language the Remarkable 2 can quite easily translate your lines into text. You'd had have very topsy turvy writing for it to mistakening put one line of text on another line (as you can have a mix of grid paper and lined paper to aid writing) I also believe you can customise the pre-set paper options if there is a combination of paper choice that isn't on the tablet.

7GB is enough for note taking, but not enough for e-books if you want to load up a bunch to have on there. There's also no expansion, no memory cards, you can only really just connect to another device and transfer files, because they want you to pay the subscription to their cloud service instead, and that's where they want you to store your files. Even from a business perspective that's dumb, because that's just asking for intellectual property theft. In fact, the whole thing might even be primarily designed as a product to that end. They want professionals to take notes, put it on the cloud, so China can browse through it for anything they can steal or use for blackmail.

The interface must be laggy...as I saw @2:40 how clumsy scrolling is. Navigating interfaces on this device may be a nightmare ....just like kindle...best suited for linear reading. However, for non linear reading, if you go back and forth between different sections and pages of the book, may drain the life out of the user. Very pretty though.

features are only secondary. If someone wants features he or she must get an Ipad. The reason to buy E ink is writability. On Which device one can write at the same look and feel of real paper writing and print it to look like it it is written on real paper. 1st look and feel like writing on paper while writing. 2nd Printed papers look like they were written on paper 3rd look the same on computer screen . Those are the main traits and it seems just them alone is not a simple task for any E ink device. So before talking about connectivity ans searchability lets talk about tge basics ( the 3 points) which are alone are not obviouse and are super important..

I hate that it's just as expensive as an ipad with an apple pencil. Like come on, that thing has way more stuff in it and you always pay extra just because it has the apple logo and this little company thinks it makes sense to up the price so now it matches with apple. I would love buying this but it would only make sense for me with the keyboard case but it's freaking 200€ for a case that costs them 40€ max. to produce. And I didn't even get started on the 8€ a month to unlock every feature. They make like 3 features on that thing and then they sell half of them extra. Great product, great marketing, horrible pricing

for Europeans: do not buy unless you have a CC. for once, essential functions are only covered by the annual subscription, like data syncing, though you get a year free, you need to have a CC right away, otherwise those functions cannot be used. given the price tag, the superb competition, its just deceiving, a rip off.

The tablet is JUNK do not buy it. It works in the beginning but then freezes and it is a nightmare to get replacement or refund. I had the original one replaced after 6 months and now after 3 months the replacement is also down…again. Nice idea, bad product.
