it's a well know THEORY (Not fact) nothing can travel faster than light. And it should be faster than causality not light... But tachyons have been my fav since the 60's and I first really started to get interested in science, anthropology, and history.. I remember reading Fienberg's paper on faster than light particles.. Man the sent my head spinning with all kinds of fascinating ideas.. I LOVE THIS VIDEO!!!! Man you get the old juice's flowing in me sometimes Ardit.. When I remember the exactment of youth and discovery.. The pure joy of thinking what will be possible in the future.. When you get old you loose that as the future gets shorter and shorter your enthusiasm for it dwindles and you start to look around you instead and see the mess you live in.. That is why a lot of old folks are cynical old farts. We dreamed of what was possible in our youth and we now see what is reality of what it is.. and we are left sort of empty.. So be understanding to us old farts.. We where once like you but we finally had the ultimate reality check.. Luck for us we don't have to live long with this reality.. Carry on brother.. Tachyons (if they truly exist -many folks thing so)would break the laws of physics and violate that causality. Look it up it is rather interesting field of study.. as for Neutrinos what ever kind you speak of the answer is no.. it does have a resting mass and there for is limited to less than causality speeds..

The existence of Tachyons wouldn't necessarily contradict GR. GR says nothing with mass can travel at light speed and massless particles can only travel at light speed. If a Tachyon were to form, it would always travel at FTL speed. In fact, it would take an infinite amount of energy for a Tachyon to SLOW to light speed. As long as no particles cross the light speed barrier, GR is preserved.

I never understood why the grandfather paradox was seen as legitimate dilemma. Why does altering the past have to alter your future? Why wouldn't it just split off into a divergent reality upon your arrival? After all, you can't take a time machine into your past, but a time traveler from a different future can travel to your timeline, and may even be the reason your timeline exists now. Issue is imagining how much energy you'll have to express just to pull off that hat trick in the first place. For instance, how could I visit my past self if I never met my future self as a kid? Do I have to perpetuate that to keep the timeline in tact? Or does it make more sense that I would just travel back in time to create a diverging reality where my past and future self meet, but also removing that past selfs reason to travel back to that same point and perpetuate the cycle. It's just creating this world where a future me popped in to existence, which also means his advice breaks down over time as they realize they're warning me about their reality, not mine... which would make their attempts at correcting their past a vain attempt. Time travel and space travel exist in an inseperable correlation to one another, and in that sense you'll have to exploit existing shortcuts. This is why we will not be able to, for instance, create wormholes on demand, we might be able to punch them through certain places if the time space fabric is wrinkly enough in the 4th dimension to allow us to punch a 3D wormhole to connect the two points like a stargate or the Bajoran wormhole in Deep Space Nine. Try to punch a hole in a part of space that doesn't connect and you've effectively re-created the event horizon movie after the crew experiences infinite potentiality but only remember the most traumatizing realities. But that's just my own thoughts.

I might make a mistake with one definition but please correct me if im wrong. The universe is expanding in an accellerating rate. A vast portion of the universe is made put of light. Therefore light is expanding in an accelerated rate. Shouldnt that mean that the light is accelerating above the speed of light?

I remember a very interesting theoretical physics lecture where the professor supposed that our reality was like that of a mirror. We can "see" what's reflected in the mirror, but we can't see THROUGH the mirror. That mirror is the "speed of light/causality". Every known law of physics and particle thus discovered exists on OUR side of this mirror. However on the other side, a side which we cannot directly observe, exists another complex reality to which a being on the other side would view us as just as outlandish. Don't remember all the details, but she went on to use things like the expansion of spacetime, dark matter and other unexplained problems such as quantum gravity as well as tachyons. There is so much information about tachyons out there that its really hard to distinguish what is "true" or not. Everything about these particle is theoretical. Also, a lot of older information is spread through the media's simplification. It has been proven some time ago (before this video was made) that tachyons wouldn't cause time travel paradox. Guys the tachyon violates the notions of causality only if we assume that multiple actions can lead to the same identical result, but if we look back the law of action and result is like an injective math function, one action can only lead to one result at a specific point in time, and one result can only be born from one action at the same point in time, so if we're given the action we can find the result, and if we're given the result we can trace back to the action, so there is nothing that prevents tachyon from existing bcz result before action MIGHT actually make sense

Basically the negative speed part is on the theory that the faster you move the faster you move through time thus future so the opposite will be negativity But the faster something moves the slower time is for that thing(Einstein's theory of relativity) so basically faster you move the slower the time is for you and at the speed of light time becomes 0(light doesn't experience time) thus going faster will equal in a negative kind of speed
