Remember, volume plays a _Huge_ part in any live Guitar sound produced by Guitarists such as Gilmour, Young, SRV, Moore, May, Blackmore, Scholz et al. They also record their studio albums with their Amps pushed to produce natural overdrive/distortion --- they are then able to add pedals to taste. Whereas home/bedroom guitarists have their Amps turned down and are over doing the amount of effect/pedal they are adding to the sound.
@AlainBenoit-s8h9 ай бұрын

People saying in the comments that something is missing. That’s because when Pete Cornish altered the G2s muff circuit the outcome was a sound that lacked depth and was much milder than his earlier p1/p2 counterparts. That’s why gilmour always blended the G2 with the bk butler. ( G2 after BK) Not as a volume boost but as a way of eq ing the G2 for a more pleasing tone. And to be honest although he had the G2 on his board for a while there’s not much recorded evidence that he used one as often as many people seem to think.

Great stuff. Love the Daphne Blue Strat, BTW. I have a Vick Audio V2. I always thought the G2 sounded like a mash up of a Muff, a TD (particularly it’s Marshall-y character), and a RAT. The V2 sounds like a bit of the the TD and Muff, less like the RAT, and has some differences in the circuit (no germanium, and it’s only buffered when engaged). It does a great job of capturing much of the G2 character, though the Past FX may be slightly better.
@mustyguitar Жыл бұрын
thank you!
@mattgilbert7347 Жыл бұрын
I use a V2 as well. It's like a low-gain Muff with some RAT in there as well. It uses silicon and is probably based on an old, inaccurate schematic that did the rounds on DIY pedal forums back in the day. It certainly doesn't sound bad! It's actually my favorite distortion pedal for the Laney Cub12R. Fave overdrive Jetter Traindrive & the V2 work so well together. Australian builder Devtech make a G2 type called "Custom Muff" which I own, but this PastFX sounds *much* closer to Gilmour's G2 tones. Custom Muff is a great modified Muff.
@chrisradzion2148 Жыл бұрын
@@mattgilbert7347 the V2 is a great pedal, but it’s way more Muff than Rat. I think the buffers and germanium parts are the difference (and on the official website, it says they were deliberate). I like mine,though I think it’s best alone rather than stacked (in my personal experience). You can get Gilmour tones out of it, even G2 tones, but I have a feeling the Top Tone DG2 or the Past FX (Buffalo FX) clones are probably closer to the real deal from what I’ve read. Unfortunately, both are hard to get where I am. I’m also pretty sure Vick Audio isn’t making the V2 anymore, which makes me happy I grabbed one when I did. He also makes/used to make a ColorSound PowerBoost clone that was pretty spot on with the original. Of all the Gilmour pedals, the one I’ve found that you can’t fully substitute is the PowerBoost. The BD2 is great, so is the EHX Hot Tubes/Hot Wax… but there’s something about that one I haven’t found a substitute for, outside legit clones. Especially for the rhythms on “DSOTM”, and basically all of “WYWH”.

I believe that the delay used on the live versions of "Echoes" during the "funky section" or as I call it "3rd Movement" (Because I'm a pretentious sod) was a T-Rex Replica.
