Ladies used to throw their panties on the stage and always handed him handkerchiefs to wipe his face. There were lots of variety shows in those days and Tom's was one of them. Few lasted more than a season or two, but that's how we got to see all the popular acts and also get to know the performers from the previous generations too.

The show was short-lived, but brilliant, because it was very expensive to produce. First, Tom was not cheap. But, the show had to be filmed TWICE. It was a joint ABC/ITV production that aired both in the USA/UK and each country used different technology. So side-by-side cameras were used to capture the show for both ITV/ABC. It was a top 10 show. Here’s Tom doing some different kind of dancing on a ‘naughty’ version of the Amazing Rhythm Aces song ‘Third Rate Romance’: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d6aZlGCOqcaVarM

I don't know if the method you describe was ever used, but there was a more sensible cost-effective method used for at least one Tom Jones series: The shows were shot at ATV Elstree with pairs of cameras next to each other, one US NTSC Colour camera, the other UK PAL. I am sure of this as I used to know someone who was a senior figure at the studio.

I loved the way Tom moved as well as his incredible voice. Back in the late 70s, I was lucky enough to meet him backstage in Portland, Oregon because I worked for the radio station that sponsored his show. I got an autograph and a kiss. What a thrill for this girl! His road manager told me that Tom would burn off 5 lbs. a night performing because he was such a mean dancing machine. My words (those last 3), not the road manager's.

A lot of people see fit to criticize him for that but, as far as I’m concerned, that was their own personal business. After all, she didn’t have to stay with him. I’m sure that she could have gotten a big divorce settlement, had she wanted to. I think that if you choose to get involved with and stay with an artist, any artist, who is very popular with the opposite sex, then you should know what to expect. I mean, if you find them sexy and attractive, chances are that others probably will as well.

Many popular singers back in the day had their own shows, starting back to the dawn of early TV in the 50's to it's height of popularity in the 60's-70's and into early 80's. That was before MTV & music videos took over. We called them TV variety shows; which often played in the early evenings. They usually consisted of musical numbers, both solos & duets with guest stars who were scheduled to appear that week, coupled with comedy skits and elaborately choreographed dance routines. You can find old clips on KZbin. My mom loved Tom's show but he was a bit "old" for me at the time. I was more into The Jacksons, The Sonny & Cher show, The Osmond Family - specifically the Donny & Marie show. They were a brother & sister duo for awhile after Donny left the "boy band" with his older brothers that he started singing in when he was just 5 yrs old.

Your reaction made me so happy. Thank you. I was an early teen, okay mid teen during those years. Tom had a show, Glen Campbell had a show, Mac Davis, Andy Williams, Sonny and Cher, Donny and Marie, I'm sure you're getting the picture, everyone who was anyone on the charts had a show if they wanted one. These were the days where we had regular TV shows during the regular season, and then we had summer replacement shows. These musical performers fit the bill perfectly because every three or four years they needed to quit the show in order to record an album or go out on tour, leaving the slot open for the next musical performer. I'm pretty sure this wasn't intentional, but it's how it worked out and we were the beneficiaries. It was a wonderful time to be a music lover. I enjoyed your reaction very much. Thank you for sharing it with us. Happy holidays to you and to your followers.

Absolute Legend he could cover any song and make it his own. He is 82 and still going strong touring, I would suggest you listen to 2 live songs he sung on the Voice UK Cry to me. And I wont crumble with you which he dedicated to his late wife of more than 50 years. I was born in the late sixties so did not really know of Tom until Sexbomb in the 80s but it has just been over the last year I have really listened to his music and I am hooked he must be 1 of the best singers/entertainers ever to come out of the UK and in the top 10 Singers Ever the man is Amazing.

Sir Tom Jones, yes he was knighted and was more in one man than any woman could stand!! He was from wales and was one of Elvis' best friends. Imagine that much sexuality in one room together! He was married 63 years and his song She's a Lady was about her. A must watch. He was indeed a philanderer but always had but one woman that had his heart. He dated a sister for quite some time. He was in his 80's and killing it at Glastonbury! Oh brother he does take the shirt off even at 80 and still has it!

The song "She's A Lady" was written by Paul Anka, a singer/songwriter quite popular in his own right in the Fifties, and who recorded the song himself. He and Tom were good friends. Though Tom didn't write the song, it was a big hit for him, and he was definitely referencing his feelings about his wife Linda when he'd sing that song.

If you think about Elvis back in the 50s that went on National Television on the Ed Sullivan Show and was told the CAMERA would not allow to show ELvis dance to his songs by only show only the top from the waist up ONLY. By then late 60s or early 70s - Tom Jones - knocked all RECORDS by showing his moves to the ABC TV Show which he had all the girls and women in hysterics. Why? They were throwing their underwears at him which was shocking then but it became a popular scenario for Tom Jones. He was REALLY HOT of an entertainer back in the late 60s and early 70s . Watch his moves!

I took my Mom to a Tom Jones concert in 1991 here in the Bay Area and those women (including my Mother) acted just like these women. That man had something with all the women!! All his songs brings back memories of Mom 🥰

This is one of the funniest things I’ve seen lately. I was ten years old when Tom Jones had his TV show and my sister took me to see him in Boston. We were in the middle of a stampede when he came out on stage. The women went INSANE over him. It was INSANE. 😊

Went to see him very recently. He was amazing. In his 80s now. The voice is still there, but the hips didn't move quite so much. However, watch out. He's just had a hip replacement, so you never know what he will be up to after recovery. 😉😉

I saw Tom live in Memphis TN in 1978. I was 15 and my mom took me. I never expected to see what I saw! LOL! I fell in love with the man then and love watching him today. He is still a great singer and performer. He host The Voice in the UK and he can still bring it. You should check out the Voice UK and see for yourself.

This is how the stage was set up at the end of all his shows and you ain't seen nothing yet. But, you've got to control yourself and watch and listen to all of it. When you turn away you are missing stuff that is meant to be seen.
