My best guess would be Aviation’s Electrician’s Mate, which is an electrician associated to an air wing. Since the groom is wearing his winter working uniform, the markings indicate he is Electronics Technician Petty Officer 2nd Class, with at least 4 years in the service.

I think putting the eyes in the upper third has something to do with how you’re eye travels on a picture. When we see someone in real life, their eyes are in the upper third of their body, and so it feels more grounded when the eyes are in the upper third.

Jared thanks for posting this. It is great to see positive advice and pointers and not just "this sucks" and "what is that?". The photographer did a good job and being able to see how some of those photos could be taken from good to great or really good with just some small tweaks not only helps her but others. Plus, it takes a lot of guts to ask a professional to critique your photos and then allow them to post that critique on youtube.

Da! Every time you suggested a tighter crop with eyes above the line, the photo was significantly improved, I guess composition non-rules can really matter. Excellent video. I know you love it but F/1.2 is not easy to get it right for the average.... The public has been led to believe that high ISOs really don't matter. I applaud you for your consistent harping on pursuing ideal settings.

Sometimes I wonder the thought process on the settings. Why such high ISO? Are they shooting on auto?
@annabeljennings99033 жыл бұрын
I wish I had a better answer but I honestly didn’t realize how high I let it get sometimes. I shoot full manual but at the end of the day, I just haven’t worried much about ISO because I know my equipment can handle it plenty well. Definitely not a good mindset but I think it’s easy to fall into traps like that with the insanely powerful cameras we have these days. Having it pointed out throughout this critique definitely helped me see the issue that I was relatively unaware of otherwise. I will say, many of the images with the higher ISO settings were taken well after sunset. Most of the city nighttime shots were taken past 8 and 9 in the evening. It doesn’t come from absolutely nowhere but I could definitely slow the shutter speed a bit to better balance my settings. Something I can keep in the back of my mind going forward for sure.
@dimitristsagdis73403 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same.
@elysiom_original3 жыл бұрын
As a general rule I like to limit myself to max 35mm film speed ASA / ISO - usually means around 3200 ISO tops. It forces you to work your exposure triangle, if I’m out of light I call it quits.
@dimitristsagdis73403 жыл бұрын
@@annabeljennings9903 Tnx for the explanation, good luck with your photography. Beyond the issue of taming your settings and as it was it was said in the review if you shoot in darker hours or days perhaps consider letting this show in the photos rather than having it all bright (which tends to happen if you give free reign to ISO). Having a high ISO sacrificiels dynamic range by having a powerful camera to start with is ok and you may not see a lot of grain etc but recovery shadows, highlights, colours in post for a picture that was shot at ISO 4000 with your powerful camera has rendered its dynamic range equivalent to a 10 year old and far less powerful camera shot at ISO100.
@dimitristsagdis73403 жыл бұрын
@@elysiom_original This maybe your artistic choice but others may not share it. Personally if I want to shoot something and it happens to be dark so be it. I have pushed my relatively old cameras way beyond what they can handle but so be it. Most of the time it is not that good but a couple of times that it worked it turned out really nice.

I wonder how many people just shot and leave it as is. I usually don't edit my pictures or if I am searching for something I may touch them little, but usually as is. I have little ocd so lines must be straight for me, but little rotation, cuts and zooms are not much of editing in my opinion.
@begformeowcy3 жыл бұрын
I don’t enjoy post editing, so for me I put a lot of effort into getting the best possible photo when I shoot, so I don’t have to edit it afterwards. Im not against editing or edited photos, I just don’t enjoy editing as a process, so it’s a personal preference, lots of people love the editing process. I like to leave my photos as is, I want it to be seen by others exactly how it looked and was seen by me. I tend to think most things are beautiful as they are. I think maybe it’s because I grew up with film and you had to get it right. In my digital photography class a lot of people are like ‘eh, I’ll just change it in post’ but for me I think it’s easier to get it as good as you can when you take the photo, so there is little to no editing afterwards. Like yourself, I must have straight horizons etc, and I don’t consider slight straightening and cropping, major editing.

I don't make better photos but my own mentor is harsh on me too, so I add a few things from my perspective: 3:00 the fence is making me feeling awkward, it looks like he's throwning her on the iron fence to kill her. I would have preferred either no fence or leave the fence gate open. Symbols of all kind add or subtract a lot in wedding photography. Every element must have a meaning. Also the soldier is holding his hand like a fist. I would add contrast to that brides wedding dress and let the couple pop out more overall and sharpen it. If I was paid, I would even work on the grass and especially on the dry spot in the left. Marriages should not start out with a dry spell. 3:50 The man has much more space than her and the left upper background is not THAT interesting to have such a place in a photo. Clarity filter belong in the sports or thrill sections, marriages start smooth. 5:15 The rock symbolizes the longevity and everlasting love of the elderly couple. I like the idea but to me, both motives are not sharp enough, neither the stone nor the couple. 6:16 the hand in front of the childs mouth doesn't give you a clear message about its emotions. Also the light is just flat and the filter makes it even worse. All images of courtney have the face flattened by a combination of the healing tool, the lighting and the filter, all the while the burn tool could have been of good use. To me this looks like an available light shooter who had luck when the sun helped out like in Courtney4. That's just what I would say to a number of photos presented to me like that. I would advise starting to use strobes, reflectors and other light shaping products.

That pic around 09:10 are some subsequent ones are called Still Life, by the photographer? Because that's most definitely NOT a still life... things are moving, we know they are (car, people), and they just aren't mostly inanimate objects. Edit: later in the video, a B/W still life actually turned out to be a still life, wow! But then even more pics later on, long exposures nonetheless, that are called still life but very clearly imply movement with the car light trails, this is actually kind of sad.

100% agree on mastering basics, but if you can afford it, why not grow in to expensive gear? Having sold used gear, it's just not worth the time, spam etc if you earn good$$ from your day job
@stefanrhys443 жыл бұрын
@@ozwrangler.c I guess it’s more reasoning of ‘better gear won’t make you take better pictures’ like he shot one photo and 12000 iso or something? The R5 handles that really well, most other camera below that would literally be just a grain fest lol, so it’s almost like he’s compensating with what the camera can do instead of harnessing skill as a photographer
@annabeljennings99033 жыл бұрын
@@stefanrhys44 So the particular image you’re talking about was an HDR image set to +/-3 so the source images would have been 1/160 at 16000, 1/20 at 16000, and 1/160 at 2000. All at f/4. The goal was to capture the dynamic range between the neon lights and the super dark ambient light (this image was taken at 9 or 10 pm). The shutter speed was set where it was because I was handholding the camera and even with IBIS, it gets pretty hard to handhold slower than 1/20. The high ISO also isn’t an issue in the final image because it takes the detail from the image at 2000 ISO. I’ll completely own letting the ISO drift up on some of the other images as a result of knowing the camera can handle it just fine but in this case, it was a very intentional choice that got me the shot I wanted. Quite frankly, these particular settings are a direct result of me understanding exactly how the camera creates HDR images and planning accordingly.
