I love these shots! These are all really really good. And one thing to remember: if a critique is very detailed and very "nit-picky" that means the work is so good they HAVE to be super detailed and "nit-picky" to find anything to critique! Think of it like polishing metal - you start with really course sandpaper and work through finer and finer grit, and then use polishing compound to make it shine... and all these pictures are pretty awesome. A dab of polishing compound is all that's needed!

WOW! Nice photos. One thing I'd be curious to see is you stepping outside the very worn orange/teal color grading. I know some of why this has been done in movies, but I'd suggest playing around with different color pairs, either adjacent or opposites on the color wheel (or hey, completely outside the box/wheel) rather than the very standard orange and teal.

While I agree with your overall sentiment on things being overused, I think those things were being used to good advantage. But more importantly, if you're just getting started, you find things you like and try to emulate them. Figure out HOW to create those things, and then expand on that knowledge. Yeah, if you emulate something else and stay there forever, that's a problem. But it's still a good starting point.

Dude, if you're reading the comments on this, go for street photography and portraits. It's hard, but you have to force yourself to only keep really interesting photos. But keep at it pal, you're doing great!

They are probably thinking a "style" in the context of the images being well composed. Interesting subject matter and a good composition are not what give you a style. It is part of your artistic eye, but it is not the main driving force behind your style. Specific types of photography is what will define your style. It is also how you see the world through the viewfinder that defines your style. Someone who does landscape photography might focus on telephoto/wide, shooting close up patterns or grand vistas in the landscape. You will acquire this "style" when your unique perspective on the landscape translates to the photo. Everybody sees the world differently, and I think this is what "style" is supposed to mean. And this goes for any genre of photography you choose. Just my 0.02.
@martharetallick11502 жыл бұрын
I have worked with a coach on this very issue. Believe me, finding the words to describe my style is one of the hardest things I have done. And, in most things, I am definitely NOT at a loss for words. Hang in there. The words will come to you.
@timothyrat2 жыл бұрын
@@martharetallick1150 I don't feel a "need?" to have a defined style. I just take pictures of moments that I find beautiful or interesting or unique. I'm always looking for ways to better capture what I see in the moment so that I can immortalize them and look back on them later to bring back the feelings I was experiencing when I took the picture. For me it's about the life experiences associated with the picture more than the picture itself? So I'm surprised when people tell me I have a style because I never think about it. When I ask them "what's my style?", it's purely out of curiosity. I don't know if that makes any sense. Maybe it's different if someone is a professional photographer trying to make a living off of their photography.

Keep things interesting by surprising your audience and yourself with new photos that are nothing like what you've done before.

What is this critique? Image One: very good, like the feel, like the angle, like the spinning light Image Two: very good, this is very good, really good Image Three: skin tone (ok that's a good tip) this is fine, this is good Image Four : yep nailed it, very good, this is good Image Five: this is good Etc. I like watching critique videos for advice and tips but this is really weak (and the irony that an advert is on halfway through saying are you sick of people just saying fire emojis then sign up for me to be your mentor blah blah) and then back to just hearing good, good, very good, good, that's good, when most of the images had pointers that could have been given to help the photographer learn. Surely this isn't $100 in value. Jared you have done very well for yourself with this stuff but critique is really not your thing.
