So many levels in tennis. What appears to be messing with Young’s mind in this match is how quickly Federer is on top of Young’s shots. Young responds by going for bigger and bigger shots as the match progresses. Federer won this match with his feet - leaving Young with the impression that its a long way to the top - if ya wanna rock n roll with the likes of Fed, Djoker and Rafa…

If you actually look at Young’s technique in this video, it’s not as refined as the new young stars arising(Shelton, Sinner, Felix, Fils etc.). He looks too stiff when he hits his shots, hardly bends his knees, and is too close to the ball when he hits it. At a young age he became pro but didn’t take advantage of the time he had to make himself better which could’ve been done with realizing the weaknesses in his game, and fixing them. With that being said he’s stayed at the same level for the last 15 years with little to no improvement so it’s obvious that the above is correct.
@benj10s7 ай бұрын
Actually his groundie technique was just as good. It was his serve, tactics, fitness and mental game that kept him from getting better. He had enough talent, but stuck with his parents as coaches and never grew up as a result. His serve was never fast enough, and he didn't try to change anything after. His forehand and backhand is actually better than Shelton's but Shelton's serve was miles faster and heavier, plus he's willing to come to the net more than Young. Young also didn't add anything like drop shots or slices. And if he got more time in the weight room, he'd be able to crack shots like Shelton more. But he also didn't play smart, just trying to hit it hard to Fed's forehand and not spin it heavy to the backhand like Shelton does until he gets an attackable ball.
