and no funny grunt during the game!
@imaginativeIdeations3 ай бұрын
@@slam5This is true and often overlooked. A lot of people have said Federer is inferior mentally to Djokovic and Nadal but I don’t believe this to be the case. First of all, not having a grunt in tennis requires a surprising amount of mental strength, as players often find it easier to hit a winner while grunting. It’s a psychological thing, yet Federer could just hit a winner from anywhere on the court without making a sound which is remarkable. A lot of people overlook that because they think it’s not a big deal but it is. Federer’s game style of high risk high reward required a lot more mental strength than people thought. The truth is though, Federer’s game just didn’t really favour him over the course of 5 sets as his game wasn’t built around being an endurance player engaging in long rallies all the time. Federer’s level didn’t always drop against Djokovic and Nadal in a 5th set, Djokovic and Nadal just raised their level in crucial moments as they are more endurance players, and that’s what their game is built on hence why they both had a winning h2h in best of 5 sets, but in best of 3’s, Federer had a winning h2h against Djokovic I believe. Ultimately, people often thought Federer choked matches sometimes when sometimes it was just his opponents raising their level in crucial moments which made the difference between winning and losing. Federer often lost matches where he was the better player overall, but yes, the fact that Federer had no grunt was truly remarkable.
@slam53 ай бұрын
@@imaginativeIdeations I never thought of it that way. I do notice that Federer is much more lethal in 3 sets matches. Both Nadal’s and Dojo’s style play the endurance and usually that is why they do better in 5 sets matches. Not exciting but won them games.
@imaginativeIdeations3 ай бұрын
@@slam5 Well I thought as much, so I thought I’d give you a nuancing take on it that you’ve probably not heard before. I just think there’s so many intricacies with everything in tennis that shouldn’t be overlooked. You are right though, Federer was more lethal in best of 3’s. At the end of the day though the big 3 were all great in their own ways with their own style of art when playing. The likes of which won’t be seen again, and we won’t see anyone play the game like Federer did again.

let me ask you a question, was Fed past his prime in 2008? so in 2009 he was done.. over the hill at the age of 28.........Fedals always default to that same line, Fed was past his prime in 2004, 17 year Nadal beat fed for the first time on a hardcourt, in 2005 marat safin beat fed at australian open final, in 2008 Nadal beat Fed at wimbledon final, in 2009 Nadal beat fed at australian open final, in 2009 Del Potro beat Fed at us open final, in 2007 Djokovic beat Fed for the first time eventually surpassing him in head to head, in 2010 an 2011 us open, Djokovic knocked out Fed at us open, i'm not even gonna mention the countless times nadal beat fed at the french....notice a trend here, how about the competition caught up to him?

@@fransiscoscaramanga674 How about you watch some tennis then you would have no need for questions, Federer last year of his prime was 2008, mononucleosis accelerated his decline, that was the first season he started to slow down, 2009 was 2nd consecutive season of him declining, he was not as fast, he was not as agressive, family life obligations come into primary focus ect, NEVER again was he close to what he was 2004-2008, djokovic never gain anything regarding matchups with Federer or Nadal until they were way past their form, it was 2015 season that djokovic gained H2H advantage, and that was his best season of his prime while Federer was 7 years out of his, and he still clapped djokovic 6:0 in 2012, something djokovic NEVER could do to him... now for other names Saffin was holding onto his life in that australian 2005 match and earned the win, Nadal was already expirianced veteran on ATP durning 2004, he joined ATP in 2001, 2005 was his breakthrough year where he defeated the G.O.A.T. on his way to 1st Roland Garros title, and 2006 was the first season of his prime where he defended his title against G.O.A.T. not to mention level of play he shown, something djokovic never got remotely close to. So competition has nothing to do with anything, Federer faced serious competition before he climed to the top.

Great medley, creator. But, to be fair, this was before Fed (admittedly), and servers after him, forced receivers to stand back quite a bit. I'm writing in 2024 and no one on tour is inside a meter on first service; some of the best receivers are 3+ meters back. So, its a trick that could never be carried off again with any regularity, thanks of course, to Fed bossing people around like this, and making them adapt. Normals would never have created such a sea change.
