I call this "fishing for moves." Every time I do it, I get whooped. A fight is all about being formless like water, so the moment you blindly just do things without adjusting to the present moment, you lose.

I learned this on SF6 but for some reason cannot get on the flow with T8 (yet) there's simply to much on my plate, to many stuff on my move list, same to my opponent, to many ways of landing on the ground and wake up from it for both sides and on top of that the scenario layouts... game is driving me crazy... but i love it so far, I only hope they tone it down a little bit in the next patch, sht is too crazy

You have an audience for this longer form content! Although it may not get the views you are looking for/expecting, this vid/vod in particular is like coaching and although im not at the same level as you alot of what speedkicks was saying resonated with me. It made me realize i tunnel vision in trying to do what move or option that I WANT instead of doing something like dash block or sidestepping to create the ideal situation for me. Thanks for the vid Phi!

Ive been a longtime fan but the range of content you are putting around makes you the GOAT of tekken content. Introduced so many of my friends to your channel and IMO it has been the difference between them sticking with the game and dropping it like any other fighter they have tried. Super cool to see you as a student of the game. We all have blindspots and autopilot behaviors, and its refreshing to see that you're human as well. Also a reminder that we're *always* going to be learning how to play the game, we're never at a point where we are just "good" and can win games effortlessly. I think that's why the "tips to beat x rank" videos do so well, is that there's the concept that just learning a quick and easy tip will make the dopamine hit from winning come without having to slow down and eat our veggies with watching replays and discovering our weaknesses.

The point about balancing decisions between gameplay state and opponent actions reminds me of actual boxing advice I heard: "Be aware of the macro situation first and the micro second". Meaning that if you manage to dominate the center of the ring and your opponent is constantly having to evade the ropes/corner you are more likely to win than if you get a couple hits in with your back against the ropes.
@jameswinslow28315 ай бұрын
This is really cool and I appreciate you for posting this. The dashing into a block then getting jabbed into a frame disadvantage leading to a kick in the face was crazy. Then watching you realize the mistakes by him pointing them out was really refreshing to see considering how good ik you are as a Tekken player. I've only ever played arcade mode Tekken on Ps2 so Tekken 8 has been an uphill climb and so far I'm Assailant in Ranked. I lose a lot more than I win

In a mirror match you can still create advantageous positions! Quickly go from a non-threatening distance (threat-adjacent) to a threatening distance and you're in the advantageous position because you're the first to know.
@giantstrawman5436 ай бұрын
On forward dash beating other movement options: 1. Stage position, forward dash necessarily moves your back away from the wall, sidestep presumably tends towards rotating you to a desired angle all else being equal 2. Moves with forward inputs, particularly f,f moves tend to be stronger/faster than moves with back inputs or up/down inputs, often even better than sidestep moves. It necessarily takes time to move from a back input to a forward input so all else being equal your move is coming out faster. Haven't finished watching the video yet maybe this is mentioned

Really good high-intermediate level content. I think I had the same problem in Tekken 7, though not as deep. Instead of dash blocking, it was dash into df1. In and of itself, I didn't find it to be a bad idea. I was trying to keep my opponent in check. However, I was not properly incorporating complementing options into my game, such as dash jab, or dash low, to make them want to crush/duck. Like speed is saying, I sacrificed my offense, and just put my opponent in a winning position. This concept is useful, and I'll start thinking about it in my gameplan more. Thank you for sharing. EDIT: I started thinking about players who have defensive styles in Tekken 8, and I am curious why some players are finding success with it The immediate example I came to is Strog (EU lars player). He got God of Destruction, with a patient playstyle. Going against him feels like I'm fighting a brick wall. I'm wondering how he's making these "do-nothing" decisions, and finds success with it. Is it the character? Is it the opponents giving up initiative? The player's unfamiliarity with the game? It's hard to tell. I think this should be explored a little more in detail. Again, thank you for your time. Edit to edit: I just watched a few replays with him on steve, and he's playing a lot more offensively. Idk if that carried over to his lars. For now, I'll eat my words lol
