What is your favorite plastic trim restore/protectant?
@1stfrompuertorico5682 күн бұрын
I use Solutions Finish and Sem trim paint for heavily oxidized trim like that on Jeeps or Honda Element
@anguslean40582 күн бұрын
Solution finish works well they also now have a sealant that you put on once the product completely drys.

As a man of many Jeeps I use Forever Black. It's a dye, not a restorer or protectant. 1-2 coats on the most faded of faded Mopar plastic and it's blacker than new. I'll let it cure for 24 hours and then apply Cerakote over it to lock it in. I've also use it on Wrangler door handles. As you know they are a fiber reinforced plastic, it works just the same. Look new afterwards.

Ceramic coating… DIY do one with a black dye. Maybe I’m missing something but it’s way better than a dressing and way less hassle than spray cans.

For me it's solutions finish or cerakote.

I'm a Solution Finish guy, but also a big fan of the SEM Trim Black and Ultra Trim Black. I usually use an Adhesion Promoter with the SEM. The bed trim on my black 2002 F250 is naturally a dark gray, lots of scrubbing and Ultra Trim Black were the perfect solution to get those to black and long lasting.

I used Solution Finish on my 05’ Xterra. It worked great on all the plastics. It’s been at least 3 weeks and so far so good.

I like the Cerakote Trim Restore (It's the only one I've tried). I like that it is not dyed. I used it on a 20 year old Honda Element with grey trim. It did a great job restoring and removing tiger striping. I wish it came in a bottle to be used with an applicator rather than the wet-naps. edit: I just saw that it does comes in a bottle.

Have you tried DIY detail trim restore and protect?
@trifin57722 күн бұрын
That’s what I thought… seems like a top product. I’ve used ceramics on trim and they are great but that diy product looks even better with the dye.

Beginner here. So all the trim restore products fail? Go straight to the paint and save yourself time? Am I missing something?
@joeschmoe6908Күн бұрын
Yes. In many/most cases they don't fail. The paint requires masking and drying time, and leaves a slightly altered finish. It's also more expensive. Even in this particular case I would bet that a few extra layers of solution finish would do the job, especially if applied wet and left to soak in for a few minutes.
@apexdetail855 сағат бұрын
A high percentage of the trim can be restored with the products tried first. For these horrible zebra looking injection mold plastic pieces....I go straight for the trim paint.
