I love that Chris had to trial and error the non-jack version even when there are clear markings that, as he said, were pointing outside but still got through all possible iterations with the pieces even when the markings point inside

The ring trick is physics (A) - basically, the chain whips around the outside of the ring and hooks over due to friction etc, etc. You do have to tilt the ring slightly, otherwise it will simply fall off.

That's a really neat puzzle! I hope they release them to the public soon, it'd be great as a desk fidget. The chain/ring thing is a neat physics trick. As the ring falls, it slides past the chain and causes it to snap around the ring, forming the knot. If you drop the ring so that it never makes contact with the chain, then the trick won't happen.

When Mr. Puzzle did this, he said that he didn't notice that this fit as they described. In other words, there was still the same amount of space between the puzzle pieces and the jack in the middle of the puzzle. Did you notice that, as well?
@anteshell
@anteshell 7 ай бұрын
The pieces are exactly flush with each others both with and without the jack. There is no play between them in either configuration. The difference comes from the volume of the cube. With the jack the cube is slightly larger than without.

9:52 Something I noticed broke my brain. With the jack in the box there is more space in the acrylic box than the original solve. How does one add to but get less volume. I'm sure the original cube was not sliding around in the box before just crazy. GREAT puzzle. So after review with a few missteps of his fingers that moved the shells there is more room in the box than the original cube and I deem this the Magical Box of Jacks!!
