I have a radrover and I upgraded the motor, controller, display and battery all purchased from electrobike world. I rode it for maybe 5 miles and parked it for 2ish months due to weather conditions. Went to ride it a couple weeks and the display was dead. Contacted electrobike world and was informed that ALL of the parts (besides the battery) only have a 30 DAY warranty and I was out of that period. Purchased a controller and display from Bolton ebikes today along with the extended warranty. I will never buy from electrobike world again.

I'd love to see a true 750W/1KW Bafang rear hub motor that drops into the RadRunner 1 without major modifications. I bet Bolton could sell _loads_ of these things.

Here's a challenge for you Kyle. Build a bike with both a mid drive and rear hub 750/1000w motors. The torque would be insane enough for a fat tire rock crawler. Yeah, that's what I want. Start a new sport with an Ultra 2! I've just now given you the name. I better go trademark/copyright that real quick.

I did the 3 upgrades to my 2017 Rad Mini, + Sunlite front and a Duro rear tire at 35 Psi. Did a 50 mile ride 555 Ft elevation :) yesterday in PAS 1 and had 37% power remaining. Also did the Bolton Callipers :) This Mini ROCKS. Thanks

I live in Seattle and we have 7 rad bikes; Father-in-, Wife and myself all have rover 5 with upgrades (controller, display, motor) and my 4 kids all have minis non-upgraded. With the adults being heavier the upgrades make the hills around here doable and the kids are good without. Highly recommend these upgrades! I actually have a backup upgrade (complete) and will be ordering the hydraulic brake upgrade for all the bikes. Bolton customer service is on point as well! I started these journey about a year ago and have had a problem with a motor and a controller that they worked with me to replace... The handle bar jacks are great to have too :-)

MORE! I’ve purchased ALL the upgrades including the forks. My Rover says I’m pushing 1700 watts!! Goes 32mph and 36 if I lower my body. Free spin says 41. I 💕 my Rover. Thanks Kyle Also the tool didn’t work for me and you all figured that out sending me a tool you didn’t make. A very cool tool I might add. I also can ride over 100 miles if I keep speed around 13-14 mph.

Great video Kyle & all spot on. I bought the upgraded motor and controller for one of my two 2019 rovers and it smokes the stock one. Still running the 48 volt battery and I can still get almost the same range of about 25 miles if I baby it. Love the cruise control feature, outdoor temperature, and other features it offers as well. I might add it's really fastest when you pedal in pedal assist 5 versus just throttle. Great upgrade and holding up great after a year + and about 1500 miles on it. Thanks for offering a great upgrade for these!!

I upgraded my controller,screen and battery. My plastic gears were cracking from the heat. Long grades and 30 mph winds probably had a lot to do with that. I’ll be ordering metal gears next month.

The controller up grade made it a different bike. I got a 20 amp battery and spliced the wires, attached a xt90 connector and added two more batteries, 14 amp and a 16 amp...total 50 amps..... 100 miles per charge!!!

Yes, a better controller can make a huge difference and not just for Rad. I replaced the horrible controller and display on my " 500 watt " Ancheer with a KT 22A controller and LCD3. It made a huge difference. I can accelerate up any hill in the city and my PAS finally works like it should.

The 6+ motor cable is on the opposite side compared to the older rovers and you need an adapter for this kit to work.. or you can wait until they sell the 6+ upgrade kit

Do u sell any 52 volt bigger batteries that aren't triangle shaped? I have the step thru and I don't think I could get the triangle batteries too sit in the little cradle thing that wraps around the battery to keep it safe.

I recently put the Bolton controller on my 2020 RadRunner 1 (with the stock Bafang motor) -- significantly more power in terms of torque/acceleration, but only a very modest increase in top speed (+1 - 1.5 mph). One curious limitation is that the wheel/tire diameter setting (DIM) moves in increments of 3 units, which makes it impossible to accurately calibrate the speedometer (on the RR1). Why, I wonder, did the designers choose 3-unit increments as opposed to 1 (which is the case for many other settings)??? If you have any influence with these guys, Kyle, please request this change. I live in a city with almost no flat areas and a lot of very steep hills 12%-16% grade very common and hard to avoid. I'm probably just going to buy a second battery as I don't want my bike to look modified. I doubt I'll get caught in the next year as ebikes are still new but it is exploding and as people become more familiar I don't want it to stand out as a modified bike. In Canada our bikes are only 500w so I'm also a little worried about burning out my motor and will probably make the max 1000w.

I can most definitely vouch for the quality and value of Bolton's upgrade kits. My wife and I own a pair of 2020 RadRunners (1 black, 1 green), and I've installed the upgrade kit on mine, whereas hers is still 100% stock (other than 3rd party accessories). I've put just over 1,500 miles on mine since installing the upgrade kit, and just got my first flat tire. The overall power is just awesome, and even the stock battery and motor are capable of handling 1600W of power. Top speed is 25mph when fully charged, more like 22-23mph average. However, I've gotten the bike up to 44mph with a nice long hill, lol. Brakes are still stock mechanical Tektro Aries, but I've been using KoolStop high-performance compound pads as I've found they seem to last the longest between changes. Looking forward to adding a front suspension fork and upgrading to a 52v/20Ah battery in the future.

Hey Kyle! New-ish viewer to the channel, but I love the content! I own a secondhand Bintelli M1 that I have been curious about upgrading. I use it to commute to work, and a top speed higher than 20mph would be great for the flow of traffic. Would you have any idea if your RadPower upgrade kits would work? The bike has a Bafang 500w motor with a 48v 10ah battery. I am new to ebikes, but it seems the controller is actually buried in the frame. Any help from you would be much appreciated, as I can tell you are very knowledgeable on solving issues like I seem to have. Again, love the channel and the content! Keep it up! And I already have decided my next complete ebike purchase will be one of your models through your store! You seem to have the greatest reviews and the best products on the market!

You do an excellent job explaining all aspects of ebikes. I want to make a recommendation to you and others who attempt to explain eBikes to others, especially government officials and regulators. We almost always use the term "watts" in conjunction with eBike motors. I think this is a mistake. If I tell a regulator that he should permit 100 watt light bulbs in public restrooms, he likely knows the amount of light that this size bulb puts out. On the other hand, if I tell a regulator that he should permit eBikes with 500 watt motors on city bike paths, he probably has no idea what this means. It's my understanding (I could be wrong) that a 500 watt eBike motor is equivalent to one (1) horsepower. The regulator probably has a much better idea of the meaning of "horsepower" in relation to a motor. Using this term, I think the regulator might be more apt to permit the use of eBikes on city bike paths if he/she knew they were powered by a small one horsepower electric motor. It's in our best interest to use terms that decision makers can understand and relate to.

Kyle, a question about maintenance if you find time. Do these Bafang hubs need internal cleaning or are they sealed fairly well? If so how often in dirty conditions, not much mud yet but a whole lot of gravel road dust. I have been wondering about magnetic particles in the dirt collecting inside on the magnets. Oh and these newer Bafangs on the Aventon Aventures are 750 watt min 1130 max and the feed wires come out the opposite side of the motor. Thanks

Hey there! - Have just bought an E bike each A SONIC discovery branded job - or VALK elsewhere - had needed SOME home assembly these were 250 w nominal and run at 360 w on a 36 w / 10 amp - so we get 32 km/h on the flat came with certain X TRAS like guards ( plastic ones ) already fitted and an LED headlight inclsv THESE are sold in AUS currently under the VALK nomenclature & here in NZ as the SONIC series . otherwise have abso no idea but guessing they are built in china Two mths on & have had no trouble & are running sweetly - these have MAXXIS PACE tyres fitted would you know ANYmore on these E bikes ? & how would you rate THEM in the overall scheme of things we paid appx 1799 NZD dollar for each of these disc braked wonders - that seem solid enough we will appreciate your prompt reply -

It's super easy to do...I just did my motor a few weeks ago after overheating the stock 500w motor with upgraded controller. Way more torque which is great if you're riding in hills.

Does this controller upgrade also work on an European Radrover/Radrhino from 2020, with a 250 Watt motor? The European Radrovers/Radrhino are more restricted. We don't have, for example, a option to speed up the KM in the hidden menu, I save video's from American people, they had 4 options in the hidden menu (light, wheelsize, KM or MPH and speed, I have only the first 3. And does Bolton also ship this controllers to Europe?

Rad Bikes are driven here quite a bit here in Burlington VT. People buy this brand because it's CHEAP. The riders at some point will understand that they have ZERO dealer backup because Rad is mail order without dealers. Also the Rad fat tires have a habit of going flat and needing new liners and SLIME

By leaving the word 'motor' out of website description and specs and using words like '750W power 'instead. They carefully avoid any parts specs in my 2018 Rover owner's manual. Mike R is a crafty and borderline dishonest marketing devil to state peak instead of nominal, and I'd tell him that to his face.
