This Ram TRX Test Mule Doesn't Sound Like it Has a V-8

This Ram TRX prototype, spotted in metro Detroit, is almost definitely packing a twin-turbo inline-six engine. What do you think of its sound?

I still remember the marketing material from the day they introduced the TRX. Making endless fun of the Raptor’s turbo 6. They’re hoping we have short memories and deep pockets.

The engine on this thing doesn't have a dipstick, so checking your oil will be a pain. Honestly I wouldn't trust an engine with less than half the displacement of the V8 it's replacing to hold up as well. Not a fan of EVs, but I think I'd actually take an EV Ram over one that has this engine, especially if they end up having similar issues to the Toyota and Ford TT V6s. The Ram REV still looks like a regular truck unlike some of the others out there, and it would probably outrun this thing.

@@erickelly3447 I strongly disagree, I think the Hurricane I6 sounds better, lower grumble. My main concern is, how will they retain the same power figures and specs the V8 TRX had. I know they announced there's a 550 horsepower version of this I6, however we have a hint that there might be more power, and this might be the first product to show that. Regardless, I still think Stellantis is acing it and doing better.

@@stellaa1328we'll just have to agree to disagree on that engine note. As far as these smaller engines go, it's amazing the kind of power these manufacturers can safely pull from these engines. I'm curious to see how the I-6 does. It can definitely be argued as the better foundation for developing power, but Ford has had a big time headstart on turbocharged engine development. 10+ years in fact of on the road research and development in all types of heavy duty applications. I hate to see those hemis go away but Stellantis is way behind because they were so slow to transition to smaller engine development. They could have been doing both. Ford proved that with its continued development of the 5 liter and its derivatives
