I'm confused. 1. Where do you get the new play software for this (for pimax crystal, not light - if i understand correctly, this is only a light feature now and cystal support will come soon, if so, when @pimaxVR15 2. What is the recommendation -> is this feature compatible with DLSS? Should DLSS be on or off? it is compatible with FS adjusting software such as AutoFPS or smoothFPS. I'm curious, what is the final recommendation here. I have a 4090 14900k setup.

Can you not increase base resolution before upscaling so when you do, you settle at 45fps. X2 to 90hz. Going for 60fps on 90hz display is not ideal no? I target full or half the refresh rate.

Owner of a Reverb G2 and a RTX 3080. I will wait and see if this setup will still work with MSFS 2024 and how it performs. And if I will find I need a new Headset and a new graphics card I'll just wipe the sim from my drive because there is no way I am going to upgrade essential parts of my system within the next 2 years or so.

Is it just me or can you see better with upscaling. @0:56 the lines on the soccer field, uhhh sorry, pitch, is blurrier than @3:05 I got tired of waiting for the superduper replaceable lens version so I ordered the Crystal Light. Can't wait to give it a whirl. For reference, I've had DK1, DK2, Rift, HTC Vive, Pimax 5K, Reverb, and Reverb2. So I've tried and owned most of the major headsets. When I went from Pimax 5K to Reverb, I finally realized what people meant when they said "I'm looking through a straw!" I'd gotten so used to the narrow FOV that I didn't notice it until I *didn't* have a wide FOV.

Great video. Personally I think that Pimax Upscale feature is a good thing, but to be honest it is nothing unique because like you said there are many other ways to boost the FPS by reducing visual clarity. One of my favourite is to reduce resolution multiplier in Steam VR and this can be done pretty much for most of the games if not for all. Another way in MFS2020 is to reduce render scaling if using TAA antialiasing. Like you said: you can’t gain FPS without loosing somewhere else and currently there are many different tools to play with to get to that sweet spot.

This is really disappointing news if true. So following this logic, when the super drops. They get feedback and create a super lite and abandon the crystal lite to force users to upgrade. They better make good on giving a hefty credit for the OG crystal users

Yes I am wondering the same thing @ZockerBudeVR. I will have to do a lot more research into motion projection on the PCL. If it has issues as he has mentioned here, then there is no point at all in me getting the PCL, with my 3080, as an upgrade from my G2.

Hello Steve I want to ask you with my pimax crystal is it a waste of time to have my settings on 120 Hz? My monitor is 165 Hz or should I be using 90 hz since you cannot get 120hz in msfs anyway. Am I going to lose performance if I had it set to 120 instead of 90? If that makes any sense I hate switching back-and-forth because when I am in iRacing VR, I set it to 120 because I can get 120 hz.

Hey Richard. Good question. For MSFS, ideally you want the lowest refresh rate your eye can cope with, as it gives your PC more headroom. 90hz is ideal as it will allow you to tune your system for a more achievable 45fps. However, you can feasibly run your Crystal at 120hz and 30fps would feel smoother. You'd have to lock it down in the Open XR toolkit though. I personally prefer 90 / 45. Hope that helps.

@@lowndesquinlan4252 The computer still needs to process and show everything. That's not done in the cloud. Just more assets are in the cloud. Probably that wont have an impact on performance at all. But they claim to have MSFS2024 much better optimized for multicore systems. So it would be faster... but then again, it will have more details, therfore more to process ;).

I don't play MSFS (DCS user here). However, running more out of the cloud means the same workload on your GPU, and less storage space needed on your SSD. It's when gaming services "stream" from the cloud that your GPU and CPU is not heavily loaded.

I just got the Crystal Light and I absolutely cannot get past the warping effect around the inner edge of the lenses (around the nose). It makes the instrument panel look very odd and is very immersion breaking. I never had this issue with my G2 or Rift S before that. I also tried the upscaling 90 Hz mode and the visual quality (of the cockpit specifically) drop really wasn’t worth the marginal gain of FPS for me.

Jaap from Pimax (this honest guy who, contrary to Pimax marketing, tells the truth even if its a bad news) informed on Discord that upscaling won't be implemented for the original Crystal. Seems to me that Crystal Light is finally the revenue generator for Pimax due to the right feature/price balance. Probably Pimax doesn't expect much more sales of the original Crystal so they decided to abandon the developmet for it (no upscaling, WideFoV lenses delayed to some unknown date, wireless module delayed, AIO mode/ecosystem completely abandoned).

Here is the feedback: Crystal's software will continue to be maintained. At this stage, the main focus is on light. After it stabilizes, we will switch our effort back to crystal, including checking whether upscaling is updated to crystal.” In my opinion dealing with other products over years this is COO speak for it’s now on maintenance mode. Light is the focus, and their focus won’t shift until the Super comes out. I just can’t seem them coming back to the OG, otherwise they would have said it. It’s statement to ease the fury of OG owners. Look means look at, not actually do it.
